It's gotta suck trying to re-live the best days of your life by posting old ass bodybuilding pictures over and over again. All while using multiple gimmick accounts.

You are wrong, again.

Not sure who is running those other gimmicks but he/they sure have you fooled if you think I am involved. Shame, you are an otherwise good poster.

I remember the Flex magazine article quote about him that year that just said "Flex Wheeler hiked up his trunks to show off striated glutes and hams that weren't there".

Flex was looking really good the Monday before this show, sitting in the high 230s / low 240s. His trainer at the time then proceeded to have him do a heavy carb up that included insulin and by the time the press conference came around, Flex was around 270. I can only imagine what they put him through in attempts  to shed all of that water they needlessly put on, but it was clear as day that the efforts greatly took their toll on him by the time prejudging started. If anyone happens to have a copy of the ESPN broadcast of the show, when they interview Flex from a couple of days before you can see that his head is a huge water baloon.

Ronnie told me he weighed 265 lbs in 2000, so there was no way Flex was 270 lbs? I serioudly doubt that.

Flex peaked very early in his career, rarely coming in top form afterwards.  He was lazy, opting for last minute shortcuts.  He's delusional if he thinks he ever should have defeated Coleman in '99, which he reiterated recently.  I would have placed Flex 3rd, with Cormier 2nd that year.  He was even worse in 2000.

Absolutely.  Isn't On_Swole a competitor and trainer, from somewhere in the Midwest?  I would think he of all people would know that Flex was his best lighter...much lighter.  I suppose one could make the argument that he was amazing at 235 also, but 270?  I could only guess that he spilled over at that weight.

I could be wrong though.  I would have to see photos.  If my memory serves me well, I have never seen Flex Wheeler to the north of 250.

Do you remember when Ronnie did his "Unbelievable" DVD in 2000?  He was 287 when that was shot, and clearly in contest shape.  I think he was just so far ahead of the competition that Chad didn't believe he could bring him in at 287.  So he kept cutting him down to around 265 - or maybe a bit lighter.  In 2003, we all learned that Ronnie was indeed quite capable of competing at 287.  But he didn't suddenly put on 42-lb of muscle from his 2002 form.  As On_Swole himself could tell us, it was just a matter of over-diuresis* between 2000 and 2002.  Ronnie could have competed at 287 during those three years.

I believe it was also On_Swole who said that Flex expected to win the 1998 Mr. Olympia [or maybe he said 1999], but that it was "not even close to not even being close."  Something I agree with, and Flex probably realized later, upon reviewing contest shots.

Sorry for the long post, but at least I didn't bring up myself this time.  ;D

*On_Swole introduced me to that term when he was describing Ronnie's size at the press conference vs. his stage size at the 2004 Mr. Olympia contest.  He said the first thing that went through his mind was "over-diuresis".  On that note, while Ronnie was quite capable of competing at 287, I think it was a mistake to move up to 296 in 2004 - Ronnie should have focused on gradual refinements only, and competed at around 285.

There appears to be a misunderstanding. I'll put it in bullet points:

- Monday before the show, Flex looked great weighing in the high 230s / low 240s
- From there, the infamous insulin carb up was performed
- Flex reportedly blew up to around the 270 mark where he was a waterlogged, bloated mess
- They then struggled for the next couple of days to get all of that water off
- This left him flat, exhausted, and weighing less than he did on Monday when he looked great

That’s why I said in his later career he’s overrated

He’s only been at the top of his game a few times 93 being one of them

2000 Flex claimed to be natural. Which meant low dosages of whatever he was doing. His kidneys were already shutting down.

Low dosage to him was 5 grams of assorted shit. Flex could hold a 45 pound plate while stepping on a scale and never come close to 270 pounds with abs.

I think he said that in 2002. In his last year at the MO.

Yep, after losing Ironman in front of Cormier, he came with a superior condition to ASC

Theoretically speaking this could have been linked to his kidney disease.

The kidney's main function is to regulate the water balance in the body by getting rid of excess fluid. When kidneys don't work well they lose the ability to rid the body of excess fluid, which might explain the softness. Besides general wellness is reduced and this must affect muscle mass and quality.
