I quite like some old school rap groups like Run DMC and De La Soul.
Kanye is one of the few contemporary artists I can appreciate. Outside of that, it's not a good genre imo. It's also too mainstream now which further dilutes any quality.

I'm gonna ignore the part where you say rap is too mainstream right after you say Kanye is the only rapper you can appreciate. Maybe it's not a good genre, but also, maybe it's not meant for you. Art and entertainment is supposed to be subjective. There's another thread on the front page about 70s rock going on. If a black teenager said they didn't think 70s rock was a good genre, most 70s rock fans wouldn't give a shit. Even though rappers are getting smarter about a sale being a sale or a click being a click, young urban kids are still the gatekeepers of what's hot in rap. One of the defining traits of hip hop and hip hop culture is the veneer of seeming to be inaccessible to "mainstream culture" (i.e whites-specifically old , uncool whites).
To be honest, even though 90% of the music on my phone is hip-hop, xxx wasn't meant for me, either. I'm 36 and there's a lot of "new" rap I don't like. I liked Jocelyn flores, but I was actually specifically avoiding this dude. I have yet to hear a tekashi song all the way through. Drake and chance and k.dot style rappers have been too dominant for the last few years and we had to suffer through the mumblecore trend, so the pendulum has started swinging back in the other direction. This kind of reaction actually happens every few years in hop hip. There was another dude named tk47 or something who was becoming popular right when xxx was blowing up and you could see that the trend was in full effect. Point being, rap is like any other genre of music. You don't have to be into any of them if you don't want to, but one artist or even a group of artists isn't reflective of a whole genre.

I wonder how they are making all this money. The record industry is essentially dead as people are paying $.99 for a song as opposed to $20 for a CD, and these rap acts, with few exceptions, really don’t anything as far as live shows. Who would want to book that type of act?

I think it's the shows. My buddy does all the behind the scenes stuff for some of these huge music shows. He said he thought DJ's made a lot until he saw what some of these hip hop guys were getting. He said Drake was getting 2 million for 1 show and acts like lil yachty or whatever his name is was getting like 300k for an hour show at one of these festivals.

The response you’ll get is that this is needed to make up for past injustices. However, the cans walking around today are several generations removed from any type of institutional racism and still are a train wreck.
The African Americans who have done well are those who have successfully integrated into white society and have abandoned black culture which is an abject failure.

In one of those interviews, he said he was booking shows for $100 -160 k sometimes, but the gang and agent he was using were only letting him think he was getting $60,000. You can still find the police reports online if you look hard enough. He was busted for promoting the "sexual performance of a child". In a video he put out, he's seen feeling up a 13 year old, simulating a sex act, and watching a friend get a blow job. For his end, he argued that the 13 year old was just part of a music video shoot, and they thought she was older, but didn't check it out fully.
He was 18 at the time, so they took that into consideration, and he able to cut a sweet heart deal for 3 years probation with the stipulation he kept his nose clean. That's gone now. They tacked another year on to the probation, and he's got these new charges, so he's going down for a while. Latest reports are that he cut a deal to snitch on the gangs he was affiliated with.

Upon arrival, the rapper was placed in general population, which led to a tense situation for 6ix when he was reportedly threatened by Crip gang members during the intake process, reports TMZ. Correctional officers were able to intervene before things got ugly.
6ix9ine's attorney Lance Lazzaro confirmed there was a lot of hostility being shown toward his client. He told the site 6ix9ine "was being threatened in jail. However, he was not scared nor did he request being removed. The [Bureau of Prisons], acting upon these threats, removed him to a different facility to eliminate the threat."
6ix9ine has an uphill legal battle ahead of him. In court on Monday (Nov. 26), he plead not guilty to all the charges he is facing. Recently, more details have surfaced surrounding the case, including additional drug-trafficking charges and the revelation that members of the rapper's crew may have been out to harm him following his interview on The Breakfast Club.
Adding insult to injury, after video leaked of the "Gummo" rapper appearing to put a hit out on Chief Keef affiliate Tadoe, police now believe there is a direct correlation between the video and the attempted shooting of Sosa and crew outside of the W Hotel in New York City the following month.
6ix9ine's trial date has been set for Sept. 4, 2019. He faces 32 years to life in prison if convicted of the federal charges. There is also a chance he could be re-sentenced in his sexual misconduct case before then.
