Title: Lee Priest looking totally jacked!
Post by: gibberj2 on April 15, 2006, 06:01:02 PM
Check out Lee

monster legs, monster biceps, monster lats! Even next to Jay and the motherless freak of nature Ruhl. That was Mr. O 2000. What did he weigh there? Didn't he weigh 225 in shape or something in the Another Blonde Myth DVD?

looking at this picture again i have another observation. if Lee were taller he'd outmass Jay there... his arms probably do there. And his chest looks as thick as Jay's; the thing is that since his shoulders are not so wide his chest doesn't look so big because it's narrow... monster calves too.

At the very least, Lee should win for best hair cut....gotta love the flat top!!!

If they start judging competitors on the "total package," Lee will start placing better and/or winning more shows.

So if we pulled Lee from his arms and feet like a rubber band and stretched him another foot you think he would be wider?

Title: Re: Lee Priest looking totally jacked!

no dude if you made him bigger he'd have more mass capacity.

Trust me, if he was 5'10" he wouldn't have the mass he has now.. Not with the doses he takes.  He gets away with it 'cause he's short..

Lee has the best arms but Ruehl beats them both In my opinion. Better shape and more defined abs.

Why is it that tall people claim its easier to put mass on if your short? Personally I am 511 so I think I am nuetral(would like to be taller)

Has anyone ever put on mass at 5 4 then grown 6 inches and put on another 50 pounds?

No nobody has nobody knows its a lame argument. Personally I would think a 5 4 guys body would be less likey to hold onto that kind of size

I do know tall guys who say I can't squat because I am tall, I can't bench because my arms are short I have to move the weight further etc

I don't think Lee makes excuses I think he lifts

Peace

Ever see a midget that doesn't workout?  They are pretty buff and they usually have crazy calves. It's just a fact, shorter people can fill out easier than a taller person.  From the 15+ years I've been in bodybuilding, the height to be is between 5'9" - 5'11". anything more or less is too tall or too short..

Title: Re: Lee Priest looking totally jacked!
Post by: SLYY on April 17, 2006, 11:08:29 PM
It seems that shorter people have more of an inner drive to get big....they have to make up for being so short, average and tall people do not need to do this....

Title: Re: Lee Priest looking totally jacked!
Post by: gibberj2 on April 17, 2006, 11:10:45 PM
no midgets are not more buff they are just thicker in proportion to their height. if a midget who works out has a 13 inch arm the average person who works out should have 15 or more because they have more room for mass.

there is no chest (upper pecs are as bad as it can get genetically) and there is no wideness but its mainly the chest that is the exact reason dex can be top 2 and even win in vegas when ron retires  and priest cant.

I've thought a lot about the height thing.  It is easier to be thick when you are short.  But, there are still ectomorphs who are short and and mesomorphs that are tall, just more of a rarity.

Definately shorter folks have an advantage in the mechanics of lifting.  That's simple physics.  While that doesn't mean a tall guy should make excuses, there are things that need to be considered.  There are people who are built very different who would have very little stability when squatting.  My gf for example, has very long thigh bones, shorter calves and an extremely short torso for her height.  If you can imagine how that works, mechanically, it really gives her terrible stability problems when squatting.  One size does not fit all when it comes to training.  Though I believe everyone should do their best.

As far as whether Lee would be skinny if stretched, of course he would.  But, that is never going to happen.  I think what is being said is that given a certain amount of muscle fiber, it's going to look more thin when spaced out over a greater surface area.  Compared to Lee I'm a skinny sonofabitch.  I recently competed at about the same weight as him, but at 6'2".  But, even shrunk down, I don't think my arms would measure 21".  Lee definately has some great muscle mass, a great bodybuilder imo.

And, so many things go into the look of a person's physique: height, shoulder width, where the muscles attatch on the bone, muscle belly shape etc etc.  Not to mention the person's genetic abilities to digest sugar, protein etc. and utilize it only as they can.

I totally agree with jacshelb on the heighth thing and mechanics of squating.I am only 5'11 but I have long legs and it is difficult to stay verticle when squating, without tipping forward...placing plates under my heels helps a little.I still go below parralell, but I can tell I tend to tip forward more than I would like...which puts a bigger strain on the lower back.

I don't think midgets can be equated this way. They are genetically freaks and not normal physically.

No he wouldn't. Exactly why is it easier to get big if you are short? Short people and tall people are proportionately the same muscularly and skeletally. Taller people are just bigger proportionately. Thats what makes Lee's arm so impressive. His arms are bigger than arms on much bigger men.

Title: Re: Lee Priest looking totally jacked!
Post by: bmacsys on May 14, 2006, 01:19:25 PM

Ok... Then why is it so hard for really tall guys to fill out?  I'd like to see a guy 7' tall get on juice and train for 15 years then hop on a stage..   Won't ever happen..

If a guy was 7'  mesomorph he would. It just so happens that most real tall guys are ectomorphs.

How many 7 footers have you ever met? They don't come around too often.

Title: Re: Lee Priest looking totally jacked!

it's harder to fill out if you're tall because the same amount of muscle on a tall person does not go as far as on a shorter person. If a guy who's 5' 6'' gains 50 lbs. he has taken a much larger step toward being completely filled out than a 6' 2'' guy who gains 50 lbs.

Seems like if it was just as easy for a 7 footer to get big as a 5 footer there would be at least one out there..

You are totally right.  If it was just as easy, we'd actually see quite a few 6'8"-7' guys.  But, a lot of them are playing basketball which shows what they are built for.  There is one 7' + bodybuilder, though he is done competing and is now in pro wrestling.  Giant Singh, or Dalip.  He was the big guy from India in The Longest Yard.  Here's a couple pics.  They are small, but one is of him onstage as a bodybuilder.  He is said to be 7'1"-7'4" (I'm guessing the lower number) and weight varies between 375 and 400 or so reportedly.  Not really trying to say anything here, just cool that there is one, or has been one truly giant bodybuilder out there.

Just a thought, but is calorie consumption a limiting factor in tall guys gaining muscle? I mean, if a guy is 7 foot tall, how many calories must he eat just to stay alive?

I have a 14 year old son that is undergoing a growth spurt. He literally is eating me out of house and home :D He says that right after eating a big meal he still feels hungry. He absolutely is not getting fat. He is actually leaning out!

Of course, to be fair,  we all remember Andrei the Giant. Maybe not bodybuilder muscular, but one huge individual. His food intake must have been enormous.

Fact is besides all this crap about hieght lee is truly a freak it would be some kind of mircale if there were more then a hand full of guy that were lee's height and look that good and even guys taller then lee he "dwafs" alot of them pardon the pun. So all in all yer he might be short and easie to look bigger but lets face it he does it better then most my 2 cents.

That seems to be the case, as far as eating goes.  It is said that taller people have higher metabolisms and that their hearts have to work harder.  I read up a bit on Dalip Singh- the dude I talked about above who now goes by the name "the great Khali" in the wwe.  He talked about what he ate, it was ridiculous, the amount!  True or false, the dude has to eat big.  When you weigh 400 lbs and are not fat, that takes a lot of energy/calories just to move around during the day!

before the first pro show he won he used to compete at 215-225 and for the iroman this year he was 209 with his best conditioned mass of yet.  its dumb why do guys always bash short guys if it was so easy to be great bodybuilder short why arent there more winning shows? and duh if someone is shorter gets taller that just means they would gain wieght..  i say stop making excuses and judge the body. i cant stand when a guy is 6ft and 200 soaking wet and complains oh that guy isnt big hes just short  when the person is about the same wieght and 10 inches shorter. lol ok im done

Lee Priest is the man! He is definately my favorite bodybuilder out there. I am 5"4 too. He hit the nail on the head when he said "All these top bodybuilders are 6' and 280lbs plus and they have the same measurements as me...pathetic". I love it. The truth speaks. he gets ripped off at every major show. His conditioning is phenomenal.

Ummmm no!! Ur a dickhead u can't even compare this but if jay was 5ft 4 his arms would actually measure smaller but they would look bigger and fuller because there is less room he has to fill out so it would give an illusion of looking bigger but in no way would it measure moreÖ

a good example is looking at a 5ft 9 guy with 18 inch arms and a 6 ft 4 guy with 18 inch arms the 5ft 9 guys arms are going to look more jacked than the 6ft 4 guy's 18 inch arms because there is simply less room to fill out but in no way do the measure more...

Here is another ridiculous post. You must be one of those 6'4 pip squeaks in the gym that finds every excuse in the book because you can't put on any size. How the hell do you explain all these other pro's that are over the 6' margin and weigh in excess of 250lbs?? Height has absolutely nothing to do with it. I suggest you get your ass back into the gym promptly and hit the weights. Never mind the complaining.

you do understand that if ur shorter you have less room to fill out so ur arms might be able to look more jacked easier but that doesnít mean they measure bigger at all, just 18 inch arms look bigger on a 5ft 4 guy that a 6ft guy..... Thatís why when u say someone like jay cutler would have 31 inch arms if he was 5ft 4 is totally wrong... infact lee priest pound for pound probably has the biggest arms in bodybuilding and im nearly 6ft so im not some short guy trying to defend short people..

If you look only at the faces of the three men in the first image you have to wonder what the heck is going on in this sport. Who was the first guy to do that ridiculous arms out standing relaxed pose! The IFBB cannot even control the men and make everyone stand relaxed properly. The last Mr Olympia to stand properly is Frank Zane. Everyone else seems to be trying to make themselves look wider but only make themselves look ridiculous.

Big and soft.  But he's right, the way they stand is far from relaxed.  More like a hands free lat spread.

don't say big but soft. the guy's old. he's 63 I looked him up by his name. Those gotta be at least 18 inches. for a guy any age Basile's arms are great. Answering his question... bodybuilding is a freakshow now. people do whatever they want. I mean Ruhl is a freak with a 38 or more inch waist, incredibly peaked weird biceps, no triceps at all, superthick back with no detail and one of the thickest delts and chests of all time. That's a freak but he places high when he comes in condition because that's what bodybuilding has become. a freakshow.

I am not in contest condition in my avatar since my last contest was in 1975. I still try to keep my arms up and in the photo they are 18 inches pumped and 17 1/2" cold. The little image is distorting the arms making them look bigger than they are. When you have been around as long as I have you know all the little tricks re photos. Put your elbows towards the camera and the arms look bigger. One day I will try to see if I can make my arms grow larger than I have ever had them. I won't be using any drugs, supplements or vitamins. I will be 65 in September. Where do the years go? I am building an assisted chin-dip machine for my gym. Naturally it has to be the best that anyone has ever made. It will have 375 pounds on the weight stack so big people can use it. The steps will support an elephant! I will even have hand rails so that no one need fall off the tower!

About contests and how to stand relaxed. Since when did they decide this should be judged? Well, it was the IFBB that came up with that nonsense. What a monumental waste of time. The competitors have devised all manner of presenting themselves that go against what these poses were supposed to be about. I say do away with that round. The best way to judge contests is to have comparisons. Period. Or you could take photos and have panels of judges compare them that way as well as judging them on stage. Why do we continue to have controversies almost every year now in many contests? Something must be wrong with the judging process. Heck, I have come up with better judging methods and criteria for an organization we used to run in Australia in the early 80s.

When I first started training in 1959 others told me that we needed protein supplements. In those days the Hoffman protein did not mix well in water. I wondered why it should taste the way it did and why it was difficult to ingest. I started reading the muscle magazines and they reinforced the notion that since muscle is composed of protein and other substances that you needed protein to make them grow. That seemed okay but I wondered why we needed extra protein and could not get what we needed from our diet. I went to university shortly after beginning bodybuilding and became cynical about supplements. I recall talking to a professor in physical education and he knew I was a bodybuilder. Well, he laughed at the supplements we took and told us the sewers of Vancouver were being filled with vitamins. I have always tried to know things and so I got myself a textbook in nutrition that I found at the UBC book store. This text was used in courses there. Well, when I read what they said about protein requirement it was clear that athletes needed more energy than protein and that extra protein is converted into energy in the body. It seemed foolish and wasteful to consume more protein than one needed. There was no mention of specific protein requirements for bodybuilders but even pregnant women didn't need that much more protein. My conclusion was that the body needed about 1/2 gram per pound of bodyweight and that was being generous. If you weighed 200 pounds you needed only 100 grams of protein and perhaps only half of that. I did the same thing re vitamins and supplements and ended up taking a C and B vitamin pill just to be sure. That was just before contests. Nowadays I wouldn't even take those.

I haven't kept up to date with the research into supplements but I maintain that eating what we need is just as good as taking those substances. I haven't been that impressed with the quality of research and much has been done by vested interests so might be suspect. We really should know the truth about nutrition and I am afraid there exists too many false theories concerning nutrition and supplements. What is the test of truth about supplements? Well, we should have independent peer reviewed scientific research to test theories. Where is that research for bodybuilders and what they require? There is almost nothing at all. If we go by what is printed in bodybuilding magazines we might as well abandon all reason.

So, if I were to take up bodybuilding seriously then I wouldn't take any supplements at all. I would eat a balanced diet and make sure all requirements were covered. If I can grow muscle rapidly then that is sufficient. I would like to see if I can gain 2 inches of size on my upper arms in a month or so. That should be interesting. I think it is possible. There is absolutely no way I would consider using any steroids or other substances. Life is too precious and short to even consider taking health risks. Besides, I want to prove that rapid growth is possible without drugs.

to gain you need more calories so if i take only 100 grams of protein a day what do the rest of my calories come from? i need to eat enough to build no?

Well, go and get a textbook on nutrition that is used by graduate students in this subject at university. That is your source of information.

The three sources of fuel in the body are fats, sugars and starches, and proteins. Since protein is expensive and has to be broken down in the liver then it is best to get energy from fats, starches and sugars. It should be easy to find these foods if you look. One useful way is to buy the little Calorie Counter book that cost about $5. Then study which foods have lots of calories and consume those. Make sure you have a balanced diet. By balanced I refer to getting all the essential nutrients from different food groups. Bodybuilders tend to go to extremes when it comes to diet. Most have little clue about what they really need but consume way too much of just about everything. That is crazy. Consume the minimum that you need. That is being intelligent. However, you will have to study nutrition first. If you have to ask basic questions then you really need to learn more. Then you will be able to assess information much better. By the way, there is no such thing as junk food but you can have a junk diet. A food cannot also be junk.

well gaining is all about a calorie deficit isn't it? and if i need such little protein. Assuming 100 grams that's only 400 calories. If I'm eating 2800 calories the other 2400 have to come from fats and carbs. There are many vastly different opinions about this stuff. My understanding always was that bodybuilders were ahead of everyone else when it comes to training and diet. The textbooks that are written that say you need like 12% protein. Bodybuilding books say otherwise. At this moment I'm doing very well with a diet from Vince Gironda's book. Lots of eggs, beef etc, lots of salads and about 1 banana for the rest of the carbs.

If you need protein it is not broken down and used for energy. I could be wrong but I didn't think it worked that way. What seems to happen is that excess protein is converted to energy. If you need 2800 calories then you need to consume that many in all the foods you eat. If you need 100 grams of protein and consume 200 grams then the excess 100 grams will be converted to energy, not the 200 grams. You will have to consult a textbook to make sure this is correct.

Is Lee technically a "midget"? or a "dwarf"? I don't know the correct term.

I think the politically correct term nowadays is "little person."

PB

You clown. Where are all these 6' pros you speak of. 90% of bodybuilders are short (5'6-5'8'' I'm guessing). Lee is so short he makes the other guys look tall. Coleman is 5'11''(maybe lol) Jay is 5'8''-5'9'' Dex is like 5'6'' Badell is like 5'7'' these are the top guys and they're all short! The fact is, short people (on average) are thicker. It's takes less calories to fill them out because they have less to fill out. Lee is too extreme though to be considered aesthetic. Armz is right about 5'8''-5'10'' being ideal for bodybuilders, unless you are a genetic freak.

True that, the protein industry is just crazy. Whey is basically junk left over when converting milk to cheese. It's a waste so it's not even worth 5 cents a pound, yet most company sell whey protein powder (the extraction process is inexpensive btw) about 10 dollars a pound. That's just wrong imo, but gotta admire the marketing behind it all.

All i know is i used to take protien and creatine and made great gains. Then one day I thought huuum wat if i dont need it? It's costing me a small fortune so i stoped and low and behold i made the exact same gains for a long time, and even lost 2" of fat off my midsection! It's been years since I've used any supps and never have i been disapointed!
The only reason i can see for supps is to help fund BB'ers but then u might as well send em a check and cut out the middle man lol.

i gotta agree with this - i stopped using supps (protein powder and creatine) and as long as you eat enough calories they dont make any difference whatsoever 9or didnt to me anyway)

Nathan when you stopped drinking protein shakes did you go back to 3 meals a day or still did 5 or 6?
