Title: Today's the day...
Post by: torquemada on May 13, 2006, 05:20:34 AM
Well, tonight's the first fight.  After a shitty morning in a sauna, I sucked down to 205 and made my weigh-in.  Honestly, making weight worried more than the fight does.  I met the kickboxer I'm fighting; they say you can't judge a book by the cover, but I think I've got his number.  Anyway, I'l  post results tomorrow and pics a few days later if the interest is there... ;D

Wish me luck, fuckers ;)

I'm alive!!!

Actually, I just got back in town around a computer this evening.

Bad news: I lost.

Good news: well, I fucking lost ;D.  The fight went to the 3rd round; everything was going great, and I got dropped with a hard R cross.  I'm not going to try to take credit from the guy and call it a lucky punch (it was a lucky punch  :(), but I, in the words of Joe Rogan, "was rocked."
My pride's a little hurt.....

so's my broken nose.

I don't feel bad; I just made a stupid mistake and paid for it.  As far as pics, my beloved wife held the camera the entire fight and screamed, cheered, and cried...

and didn't take one f'n pic.

OK, Getbig.  I fought hard but lost.  Flame if you must, but I expect better from the MMA board...

Screw it, laugh away.  If I can laugh with a broken nose, I hope you guys get a kick from it... ;)Seriously, thanks for all the support.

I'm finding the no pic thing hard to swallow

well congrats on fighting. Sucks that you lost, but now you should have a better idea of what to work on and what feels comfortable in the ring for you.  Can only get better.

Don't know what to tell you, bro.  In her defense, she was excited, scared, and (after the nose...which POURED blood) totally freaked out.  Hindsight being 20/20, I'd have gotten someone else to take some...

definitely would have taken the guy down instead of trying to stand up the whole fight; my ground game's better than my stand up, but they only gave us 2 min rounds as it was our first fight...so I figured I'd try to bang away ;D

well some people feel better in stand up.  Me personally i rather stand than grapple if given the chioce.  Although i am naturally right handed, i can feel comfortable switching to lefty.  Gives me a bit of an advantage.  It will take time to hone your skills.  But if your stand up is lacking work on it.  Take a weakness and strengthen it

Mad props to post up the real deal!  At the end of the day, you gotta ask yourself was it worth it.  If you can say yes and I learned something then nothing else matters!!!  Good thing is your still here to talk about it... ;D ;D ;D

Did you drop your guard, or were you going for a takedown or something when he came with the right cross?
And are you going to compete again?

If so, maybe not such a good idea to ask your wife to make pictures while you're fighting.  You should ask a mate or something.
Or film it,  could be usefull to analyse the fight and learn from it.

those are not the only two positions when you can get rocked by experienced striker.Your footwork and boxing defense are extremely important when fighting om your feet.

It was stupid; I got cocky, dropped my guard while I was throwing an overhand R.  My corner said that I threw my head forward as hard as he threw the punch.

I know but since the other guy was going for a cross I guess they where pretty close to eachother.  Half-distance at most.  Therefor I thought it had to be one of these options.

Congrats on manning up and getting in there.  2 minute rounds though... Sounds kinda annoying.

Those 2 minutes pretty much take grappling out of the equation.

Congrats on the fight. Even though you lost, at least you got some experience under your belt.
