I do remember at the 2nd (and last) WBF show- Dearth was the first guy to come out on stage in shape after Eddie Robinson and several others embarassed themselves going natural- Dearth looked great, but got 4th behind Strydom, Quinn (Jim), and Berry DeMey (Monster gift). I always liked his midsection- but then, that was normal in those days.

I've got an old WBF show on video and Dave's training arms and says "to win the race you gotta run...but to win the war you gotta have some guns" and hit a double bi...it's corny but pretty damn cool. I asked him about it at the arnold a couple of years ago and he said he came up with it on the spot...very funny,

Dearth placed 5th in that show. DeMey got 4th; Aaron Baker, 3rd, Jim Quinn, 2nd, and of course, Strydom won the show.
Actually, the first guy to come out in shape was Tony "The Jetman" Pearson. I thought he should have been in the top 5. Vince McMahon even commented that he personally couldn't believe Pearson didn't put him in the mix, "I myself cannot believe that Tony Pearson did not make the top 5. I'm flabberghasted by that personally"

Dave's a good guy. Honest too. Remember when Details Magazine did a piece on him before Details became 100% gay? I asked Dave if he did pose-for-pay. He said "Sure! My wife would sit out in the car while I did my thing. All that posing paid for my house and Vette!"

How is he an 80s bodybuilder (as far as being in the IFBB is concerned), when he won his pro card in '89 and had his first pro show in 1990?

Actually, the first guy to come out in shape was also the guy I felt should have replaced Dearth in the top 5, "The Jetman" Tony Pearson.
Dearth got 5th place, behind DeMey (4th), Baker (3rd), J.Quinn (2nd), and champion Gary Strydom
