Post by: The True Adonis on August 29, 2006, 07:37:29 PM
MY diet is VERY similar that I have been following. With a few exceptions.  Here it is, straight from his own diary!

5 egg omelet with 3 ounces cheese and chicken
2 cups of coffee
8 ounces of chicken and diet soda
Milk
Protein Powder
Coffee
16 ounces of fish with 1 Lite Beer.

This was followed for a few weeks prior to the 1980 Olympia.

TA, this is laughable and ironic coming from you.

Zane is the EPITOME of "all drugs" He ate like a bird and won the Mr. Olympia, yet off the drugs he would be all of 125lbs soaking wet eating like that.

See.

I am trying to tell you people that you can eat dairy and fruit.  Those 2 things alone will get you super ripped with no cardio.

New studies are showing Dairy to DRAMATICALLY REDUCE bodyfat, especially in the abdominal area.

Milk drinkers as a whole have a much much lower bodyfat and are able to obtain lower bodyfat levels than non-milk drinkers.

There is no reason to consume mass quantities of food if you are Natural and especially if you aren`t taking that Insulin and GH garbage.

Actually he competed in the 190s-200s  and the 180s.

If you weigh 235 you can survive.  Arnold used to go to HIM for dieting advices.

They dieted together as instructed by wieder as they were training partners for a while.

Are you under some delusion that Zane was "natural"...?  The 70's are over.

Your superiority complex is delusional. If you are going to bodybuild, do it for real or fuggoff.
Get serious or get out.

That's an excellent point. Too many Naturals are fatasses claiming they are bulking. The calories these guys take in are ridiculous. The natural can't metabolise that many calories. Especially if you only work out an hour 4 days a week like most naturals do.

Yeah, Zane had a great diet, but his diet also consisted of anabolics, and numerous recreational drugs. So why ain't you all up in HIS grill like you are on so many other peoples, including the newer pros, and also the members here? Your inconsistence is laughable, and (I must say it) delusional.....answer this please, Mr. "Rheo egg" Adonis.

Why?  Because one guy eats strict year round, and stays ripped, and trains for 2-3 hours a day, and another guy doesnt diet as well, and only does an hour or an hour and a half a day? Clue me in, I AM dumb, tell me why you put one guy on a pedestal, and the next guy is worthless and "all drugs"? In the end, (they) both are getting a lot of help from steroids.

Even in his 60s he was a ripped 7 percent Natural at that point.

Because the drug use back then was in damn near theraputic doses compared to todays bodybuilders, also back then it WAS NOT  all drugs....today it's flat out chemical warfare, with diet coming in a distant second followed by training, back then it was training first, diet second and then gear!

Aight, your talking about nowadays pros but this is still a question of semantics. Adonis has ripped regular members like me and you for their steroid use, and this is my point. You can't have it both ways, if you are a steroid user, you are a steroid user. Just because one guy has an aesthetically pleasing, "natural" look to his physique, shouldn't vault him to a higher level in one's opinion, without even mentioning the drugs. When this same dude (Adonis) will bash an overly muscular unsymmetrical physique, and will simultaneously cry, "all drugs". Mr. "wishy washy" Adonis.

zane drank more beer than me, who would have thought. you say he wasnt about the drugs, but give him that diet, with the beer and soda(?) and no carbs and all, and take away the DBOL and he wouldnt have looked even close to what he did.

pictures don't always do justice to a guy. even if Zane was a ripped 185 or 190 onstage at like what... 5'8 ? that's still somewhat big and if I saw him at the gym I would be impress with his shape/conditionning and all

anyone who says todays bodybuilders are all drugs doesnt have a clue.

here is a comment toney freeman made in another thread.....

How hard do you have to train and diet to be 175-235 lbs. @ 5-7% bf on stage. Hell you did'nt even have to tan or paint to win back then. I am way old school but Let's not miniturize what's going on right now. we can't go backwards. I need 8-10 meals/day 2 workouts 2 cardios and 10-12 hrs sleep. Someone has gotta Help a brother out!

to bring that kind of muscularity and conditioning onstage u gotta bust your ass....i dont care how many drugs are used...sure their is gonna be some lazy bodybuilders who want to build a physique on drugs alone but those guys dont win and dont last.

Why did he not wanna grow. Wasn't he considered a light heavyweight?  Arnold and those guys ran all over Zane. To be big, you have to eat big. Sorry TA

Zane used the sauce but his body reacted to that of a female bodybodybuilder. Even today, Iris Kelly and her gang of she males would dominate Zane. And his light beers.

No entire diet.

You guys are wondering what a Rheo Blair egg is I bet.

A Rheo Egg is first boil water, drop in an egg for 2 minutes, crack shell drop in tall thin glass, pour in 2 ounces of beer.

I used to corespond with Rheo and talk to him on the phone and I never heard that one!

It always makes me smile that people think because Zane was lighter than a lot of the guys he did not take as much shit as the rest of them.... You would be dead wrong!

His students may have given him the nickname but there is a reason it stuck. Oh, and it had fuck all to do with teaching chemistry to college kids.

Because the drug use back then was in damn near theraputic doses compared to todays bodybuilders, also back then it WAS NOT  all drugs....today it's flat out chemical warfare, with diet coming in a distant second followed by training, back then it was training first, diet second and then gear!

I agree with you on the drug doses being near theraputic to todays standards however you mentioned that back then it was training first then diet and then gear...How do ya figure? Knowing what we know today about training, the guys of yesteryear were in most cases overtrained...Their training actually worked against them...So it was the little bit of drugs that made their bodies hang on....These guys never got on stage under 5-6% bodyfat...Take a look at Zane's diet here...its actually a joke...And it only worked because of the little drugs that he was using....These guys did well because of genetics and the little drugs that were used...Training and diet were far from 1 and 2....esp. by todays standards....

Franco Columbu's BB Nutrition Book recommends that a 200 lb bb looking to add muscle mass should eat about 2500 calories if he works out 2-3 hours a day 4-5 days a week.  First off the workouts are just too long for even some of the most hardcore lifters unless you are in the gym talking and the calories seem way to low.

Zane had a more bulked look in late 60's to early seventies and then sculpted a fantastic competive look that brought a new dieting standard too play, but we all agree he used or had some help in getting him their, their weren't many drug guru's then but many people listened too gironda he was in great shape in the 60's,unlike today those guy's trained and hung out together like a small cult and probably shared all the vices that one did or needed for that era, today is like chemistry 101 and more secretive but they all know who's doing what and how to play the game.

In regards to the "Rheo Blair egg" :

Irving Johnson, ( AKA Rheo Blair ) did not believe in cooking eggs in boiling water but recommended cooking many eggs at one time in water maintained at 181 degrees for 31 minutes. The eggs were then left in the water to cool down slowly. Blair claimed that putting the eggs under cold water "shocked" many of the nutrients, rendering them ineffective and that cooking eggs in this fashion preserved much of their nutritional value.

He did, we used to smorgaboards and stay until we got kicked out, but that was the thinking back then. As I got older I realized that eating that much was counter productive and gaining 30-40lbs over contest weight to gain only a few pounds of muscle and suffer to lose that weight was too difficult, but because of my age back then I could eat and eat and still be relativley lean (no more than 20-25lbs) and even nowadays IMO is too much weight to carry for an offseason weight.

Meal 2 - 6-8oz fish, 1/2 potato, water

Meal 3 - 6-8oz fish, water

Meal 4 - 4-6oz fish, salad with vinagar, water

I followed this for about 3 weeks, this was done because it was the last qualifier before the Nationals. I don't recommend this!

a beer or two a day is hardly a drinking problem...Some Doctors believe that 2 drinks a day is actually good for the heart...esp. if its red wine...I don't necessarly believe it for i believe its just propaganda.  Just like every year some doctor will say coffee is good for you...Doesn't take a genius to realise that anything that speeds up the system is hardly good for the ticker...

Offseason diet, yes.

Several friends know Frank and it's common knowledge that you can purchase a training weekend with him and he goes over his contest "diet" and none of the diets he writes to clients is there that much dairy and protein in one sitting (5 eggs and chicken) cheese and milk same day.

Don't know where this was pulled but this was before e would start prep. His protein of choice was fish and he would and still does eat like a bird. Breakfast 3 to 4 eggs and half a grapefruit, etc.

The swimmers like Zane, look 200 times better than the Michelin Men of today. Bloat, Oil, thongs up their cracks... Plus Frank eats grapefruit, Kai F#$ks it...
