I disagree.

For a seasoned 220lb OPEN USAPL Lifter (Single ply gear / Drug tested), a 660 Squat, 440 Bench and 660 Deadlift for a 1760 Total are very respectable numbers but not earth shattering. They should win you states but, you'll get crushed at nationals by about 300 lbs.

Anything close to 3x squat & dead, 2x bench is Very good in my eyes. Obviously there are milestone numbers that are respectable in most gyms no matter what you weigh. Like benching 315 for reps, squatting 500 raw and deep, pulling 6 plates usually will turn some heads. I'm just throwing a common standard out there to shoot for. For the average guy 405, 315, 405 Raw is nothing to sneeze at. It all depends on how much you're into this game.

Good to know. Why do they keep changing their rules?

1. They changed the head rule for the bench, then changed it back to must stay in contact.

2. They changed the foot rule in the bench from no movement to allowing "some" movement (half foot forward, half foot side to side)
Then back to NO movement.

3. They changed the start / no press command in the bench back to a real PRESS command.

Meanwhile, they still have some very stupid rules:

1. No boots allowed to Squat. WHY?
2. Must wear a T-shirt to Squat and Bench (raw). That T-shirt must have sleeves, must not have writing on it (unless sponsered),
    no pockets, no v-neck.
    So, You can't wear a sleeveless shirt to Deadlift but, you can wear no shirt at all. (I've been called on this, on the platform when I 
    was about to pull. SO GAY!)
3. I understand rules against things that make the lift easier but, what about all the rules for things that make the lift harder for the
lifter, such as:
    If a lifter kicks out his foot in the bench. This makes the bench much harder to complete. Why have a rule against it?
    If the bar goes back down then up again and the lift is completed. The lifter did 1-1/2 reps with weight and it's not passed.
    Un-even extension. Who cares? If one arm locks then the other arm locks he made the lift, didn't he? There's no advantage to the
    lifter. It's not like a hitch.

3 times BW Squat and Dead. 2 times BW Bench. I think just about everyone in the powerlifting world would consider these lifts to be very respectable. Check out the USAPL State records to see where you want to be.


BWT, at 5' 9" you're WAY too tall for 181's or 198's. Start eating!

Alright, My apoligies to Hedgehog and Bodvar.

I watched the clip again. Both side judges do raise their yellow cards indicating a step was taken. But I just talked with one of the side judges and he said if Siders hadn't stepped on the lockout he still would've red-lighted him for depth. So we're both correct. He cut that squat.

I don't understand. You're saying that we should've gave it to him because it was a lot of weight and he was "really deep"?
He wasn't deep enough and it was a good call by the judges. Some times the judges don't have the balls to red-light the biggest squat of the contest. When everyone crowds the platform and are screaming. Siders is a great guy, I've met and seen him lift twice. Everyone there including the judges wanted him to break a grand but, he wasn't deep enough.

Hell yeah it is! Congrats on the 600 milestone.

You seem to be in between contest modes. You could either drop the wraps and do a RAW meet or throw on a suit and put up some nice numbers. Box squatting with suit bottoms really helps you learn to use your equipment and stay tight at the bottom. Remember to pause on the box, staying very tight and explode with everything right off the box. This will really help your deadlift of the floor as well.
Since the two are very similar in that position.

As long as the top of my leg dips below parallel it's a good squat, not the bottm part of my hams but the top of my thigh.  If I don't make the depth I do the rep over again.

According to the IPF International Rulebook, Proper squat depth is reached when the lifters top of the leg at the "Hip Joint" drops below the top of the knee. Not the top or highest part of the leg when it's at parallel. When a lifter has extremely large quads you have to follow the crease of hip joint to determine if he is "breaking parallel" or not. The top of the quad could be 2 inches higher than the hip and knee points and still be a good lift.

BTW, 500 X 10 (Deep Squats) is Awesome. What weight class are you? Is this Raw, just belt?

No balance issues. He locks out fine and the spotters guide him in. He was red-lighted by both side judges for depth.
I was less than 10 feet to his right filming it.

No, This was a USAPL sactioned meet. Single Ply equipment, drug testing and strict judging.

At the American Open in Scranton, PA 12/2/07. Siders Benched 777 and totaled 2600. Both were his previous IPF World Records.
He also squatted 959 easily and attempted 1003. He came up with it with little difficulty but was red-lighted for depth.
It's there whenever he wants it. He finished up with a very fast 865 dead. Truly amazing display of strength.
I was in the back and watched his warm-ups for the squat. He squatted 765 as fast as humanly possible. The bar whip was crazy!
Strongest man in the World right there!

The SHW Squat record is held by Shane Hamman at 1008.6 lbs and Dead by Tibor Mészáros at 899.5 lbs. It looked to me like Siders had both on 4th attempts if he wanted them. Injuries aside, He will have all of them in time.
That SHW World Total Record was Kaz's for the longest time.

Dark, this is exactly what I've been doing for the last 10 weeks with great results. I'm feel like I'm burning almost ALL fat and
sparing as much muscle as humanly possible. I'll check out the e-book you posted.

I boil around 2 dozen at a time for about a minute then I pour all of the eggs and the boiling water in the sink.
Peel under cold water while they're hot. No problem.

Powerlifters are walking proof that you don't need a pump or to take sets to or past failure the increase muscle size.
We lift heavy with long rests, very rarely doing more than 8 reps. If nothing else powerlifters are THICK.

If you made your shoulders your strong point instead of a weak body part it would drastically improve your physique.
Shoulders, especially side delts need to be Number 1 Priority. Wide capped shoulders compliment a wide back and small waist.
It's the name of the game.
