3  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: How big do you think Phil's arms are gonna get? on: March 27, 2010, 04:38:45 AM
Luke, you are giving the math too much credit.

Arms have a tendency to increase more in height than width, due to the placement of the muscles. This is again due to their purpose of bending the arm. For this experiment we can say that the biceps peak increases half an inch in height (which isn't that large a figure). If the rest of the arm stays the same, that will increase the circumference one whole inch, and the area increase won't be very large either.

Your theory is based on that the arm always grows equally in every direction, which isn't the case. And yes, this is significant, whether you agree or not.
4  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: How big do you think Phil's arms are gonna get? on: March 26, 2010, 03:02:29 PM
Luke, your calculations are correct, but an arm's cross sectional area is not circular, so the concept is not entirely correct.

A circle will give you maximum cross sectional area for a given circumference, but this ratio does not stay constant when the shape of the cross sectional area changes.

To draw this out in the extremes to prove a point:

Your 19.75 inch circle has a cross sectional area of about 30 square inches. Now let's have a rectangle with the same area, of 1 x 30 inches. Its circumference is 1+1+30+30=62 inches.

See where I'm getting at?

ha Cheesy I'm quoting a guy here who's just back from Oslo and Norway in general and said the woman were insane good looking, so
i out norway in the mix, you consider yourself something better than poland? A little? Seriously Wink
I just found it strange that Norway still gets compared to those countries when it comes to women. I was a trip to Russia a while back, and couldn't believe the quality of the women there. It was a real bummer to come back and see the mostly overweight, lazy and spoiled women here, walking around looking like they just got out of bed. I think I saw only five slightly overweight women the whole week in Russia.

I assume you have not been to Oslo? a lot of norway woman are drop dead gourgous.
I live in Norway, but the women here are not exactly what they're cracked up to be anymore.

I just thought it was weird mentioning it together with those other countries, which Norway has very little in common with.

so a in order to get the right partner girls are under constant pressure (or think so at least) and need to always look good, never go fat and so forth. This is of course extremly good for us as males and everybody who has gone to Norway Latvia Russia Polen etc will agree that most of them woman are insane good looking.
What the hell is Norway doing in that sentence?

Okay. I will keep it the way it is, maybe increase the carbs a bit then. I guess I shouldn't be complaining either way, with my training results being as good as they are right now.
17  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Nutrition, Products & Supplements / Re: Diet advice needed on: August 17, 2007, 12:52:55 AM
All right, then. I have lost about six pounds so far, but it seems like the loss is slowing down. Maybe I need to reduce the carbs a bit? I am currently taking in about 2000-2200 cals, about 100 grams of carbs on off days, and 150 on workout days. The thing is that my strength is going up at a record rate. My shoulder problems are gone, and I can bench again, after two years of not benching at all. I even got a new personal best yesterday. Should I adjust my diet, or give it another week to see what happens?

19  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Injury and Rehabilitation / Re: Shoulder Problems fixed on: August 08, 2007, 11:55:14 PM
I'll chime in with a success story too. I have been having trouble with my left shoulder for several years. I gave up benching, as that in particular made the problem appear almost immediately. Recently I did what others in this thread said, I seriously upped my back and rear delt training. Maybe it's like some here say, that it was out of alignment or something. Nevertheless, I started benching a month ago, after two years without doing even a single set. I pounded out some sets without feeling any severe shoulder pain at all. Good times. I even managed to lift exactly as much as my previous record. Don't ask.

A thing that really helps if you're having this problem is to train your rear delts right before doing any pressing for the chest. Don't know if it helps pull the shoulder backwards, stabilising and aligning it or what. That's my theory anyway.
20  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Nutrition, Products & Supplements / Re: who else here uses vitargo/waxymaize? on: August 08, 2007, 09:56:36 PM
I have a bucket of Vitargo which I bought on impulse. I have tried taking 75 grams PWO or 40 grams or whatever, and I haven't been able to feel any difference whatsoever. Maybe It was a scam.
21  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Nutrition, Products & Supplements / Re: Diet advice needed on: August 08, 2007, 12:08:18 PM
Yeah, I can always buy a block of frozen cod, that is probably cheap. It needs to be boiled though, which is a pain. I guess I can always boil the whole thing, and save it in the fridge for later. I hate preparing food. That's what makes it so sweet with eggs, tuna and oatmeal. I just bought eight cans of tuna today, so I'll have enough for a few days. Chicken is pretty easy to prepare, but it takes quite a while. I try to make the diet as little work as possible, making it easy to manage. I can stand eating boring food all day, it's the preparation that gets me in the end. Well, I have never tried a serious diet before now, and it will be successful. Guaranteed.

On another note, I stepped on the scale today, and it turns out that I am down from 195 to 190 pounds. Those numbers are about three weeks apart. Surely, some initial water weight and such is included there, but I am satisfied so far nonetheless. My strength has also gone up, which is probably just a fluke. I don't see a major difference yet of course, but I need to start using a belt now, which is a good sign.
22  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Nutrition, Products & Supplements / Re: Diet advice needed on: August 08, 2007, 08:40:39 AM
Maybe I'll try that oatmeal thing. I have considered the idea before, but it just seems so...wrong. A worse problem is replacing the cottage cheese. I am going for some chicken today, but that's extremely expensive here, so I am gonna need a more accessible solution eventually.
23  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Nutrition, Products & Supplements / Re: Diet advice needed on: August 07, 2007, 09:54:10 PM
Sounds sweet. I am actually going for 150 grams of carbs as of now. Yesterday I had my best chest/shoulder workout ever, and I have lost four or five pounds in the last three weeks. That's why I upped the carbs from 100 to 150, coz that loss sounds fast enough and then some. I will try and cut the dairy products, except for the small amount of skimmed milk I pour on my oatmeal. Can't eat oatmeal without that.

And it's good to hear that I can eat the eggs whole. Guess I'll have to eat more tuna now that the cottage cheese is out. Either way, I am on my way, and it's not that hard, actually. Feeling confident. Thanks for the pointers so far, guys.
24  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Nutrition, Products & Supplements / Re: Diet advice needed on: August 07, 2007, 10:03:32 AM
Thanks, man. The salmon here in Norway isn't all that cheap, really. Nothing is cheap in Norway. Actually, whale meat is not that expensive, and I bet it's really good for bodybuilding purposes. It doesn't resemble any other meat I have tasted, neither fish or large game. It's not all that tasty, but you know it's the real shit when you eat it. And it's not fat at all, but tough and very dense.

That being said, they have fat free red meat on sale all the time at a store near here, where I usually buy a couple of pounds at a time. I can get somewhat cheap frozen salmon, maybe that's a good idea.
