I enjoyed this fight...the first round was crazy. Boxing has it's place in MMA as well, I don't see why people think it would be that in effective on the street. Let me tell you from experience, boxing works better in real life scenarios than BJJ does. Bjj is great if you are actually fighting a fair one on one fight and it happens to not be in a parking lot, or on gravel, or crowded bar. I'd rather have a boxer get my back if I'm being attacked by multiple people than any BJJ black belt. I like MMA and boxing a fight is a fight.

Vitor would've destroyed Le in under 2 minutes. This match should be more competitive, Wandy does have glass chin..but...Cung has pillowfists, Le's arsenal of kicks are his main source of power and Wandy's Muay Thai is better suited for dealing with kicks than punches anyway. I'm an eternal Wandy fan and am going to root for him regardless. I saw an interview where Wandy said something like...."if he hits me with one of those spinning kicks it'll just make me mad" lol.

I've been a big fan of Chris ever since I saw his fight with Robbie Lawler, I'll never forget the specific exchange in the third round I believe in which Chris caught Robbie with a slick ass combo just to get dropped by a huge left hand from Robbie and as soon as he hit the ground he looked up at Robbie and smiled and gave a little clap...almost as to say "you got me". To this day Chris says that's the hardest he's ever been hit. He's a helluva fighter and went out on a not a good note, but a great note. Best of luck to him and his family.

Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Mixed Martial Arts (MMA/UFC) / Re: Phil Davis out against Rashad at UFC 133

Despite initial reports that former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz had turned down a main event pairing with Rashad Evans at UFC 133, it appears that “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” has answered the call.
UFC President Dana White tweeted news of the matchup Wednesday. Ortiz steps in as a replacement for the injured Phil Davis at the Aug. 6 event, which will emanate from Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
Ortiz and Evans have met once before, fighting to a draw at UFC 73. Ortiz was penalized a costly point in the second round of the July 2007 bout for repeatedly grabbing the Octagon fence.
Ortiz recently staved off retirement by submitting Ryan Bader at UFC 132, the 36-year-old’s first win in nearly five years. Ortiz had gone 0-4-1 in his previous five bouts, dropping three straight fights in that span to Lyoto Machida, Forrest Griffin and Matt Hamill.
Like his new opponent, Evans is also a former UFC light heavyweight champion. “Suga” captured the title in 2008, knocking out Griffin at UFC 92. Evans’ glory would be short-lived, however, as he lost the belt in his first title defense to Lyoto Machida five months later at UFC 98. The defeat remains the only blemish on Evans’ professional record, as the 31-year-old rebounded from the loss by posting back-to-back victories over Thiago Silva and Quinton Jackson in 2010.

I heard Toney is a gold belt and BJJ and has a mean side check kick j/k. Shammy is shot and so are his knees, if Toney had even a solid year of training takedowns and leg trips he would be able to keep the fight where he wanted it. I think Shamrock would go for a crazy rolling ankle pick or something unorthodox like that and work from there. Although I'd like to see James land at least land one good punch in MMA just to see the damage.

Noons is primarily a counter puncher who kinda relies on pot shotting and moving, it seems like Jorge baited K.J. into coming forward a little more than he usually would, which is what got him taken down and got him clipped with those knees and kicks. K.j. is decent, he just needs to rely on more than just his hands, it seems like that hurt him against Masvidal. Cormier did look pretty good, it seems like being Cains main training partner is rubbing off on him, he is almost starting to look like cain as far as his arsenal of attacks goes, which is a good thing.

Strikeforce at the home of the NBA champs Sebastian Rutten on the set of insideMMA Weigh ins The Reem Fight Night Ariel Helwani and his Jew nose j/k My view from my seats Jardine Oldereem Connor Heun Babalu and one of the founders of Chuteboxe Academy Master Rafael Meisha Tate and her sexiness emanating JZ Cavalcante Michael the Crackhead Irvin The captain of the last US olympic Wrestling squad Daniel Cormier Hematoma head Noons I was sitting behind Guy Mezger, here he was talking to the voice Michael Schiavello...weird pic lol Barnett The agony of defeat-side choke Bighead getting interviewed Werdum The Reem reppin Dallas Mavs Kneeing it up Butt Scootin I sat right behind team Golden Glory and Guy Mezger, I was talking with Guy the whole time and he was pretty accurate on calling all the fights with the exception of Masvidal/Noons (I told him Jorge was gonna be tougher than he thinks, he said, "Noons has too many skills"), His commentary was pleasant though as opposed to the fag Mauro Ranallo. He invited me to the Alistair Overeem seminar the next morning at his gym but I was pretty buzzed and I am not a morning person lol. The main event was a letdown but Daniel Cormeir and Masvidal both showcased vast improvements and looked pretty crisp. Jorge will fight Melendez next....and he'll probably lose. Connor Huen fought a tough Brazilian (Almeida) and managed to pull a win out despite a broken arm from an armbar and a torn ligament in his knee (from a kneebar).

Werdum is dangerous and can sub just about anybody once he's got them on the ground. Alistair has been pretty hard to take down as of late, and Werdum is very good of a wrestler, he usually gets guys to the ground with sneaky little judo leg trips. He caught Fedor be getting dropped, and in doing so Fedor wildly followed him to the ground and was locked up. As long as Alistair dosent make that same mistake this fight is his.

Main event is a good one, other than that the card is pretty shitty. I actually like the Yves Edwards/Sam Stout fight....look for that one to be a good one...to bad it's not on the main card. I'll be cageside next weekend for the Strikeforce Heavyweight tournament, we'll see what happens there. Like I said before, the winner of tonights fight get Cain Velasquez in Houston on Oct. 8th, I will also be there cageside...I'm goin for JDS but Shane has a game changer of a rt hand so im not counting him out.

Andre's winning the whole tournament, his hand speed and superior technique coupled with the fact that he doesn't take to many unnecessary risks will lead him to victory against either Froch or Johnson. Johnson is a brawler that likes to drag people into dogfights, but Andre's got the footwork to stay on the outside, and as for Froch, Andre might have a bit of problems but I can see him getting UD's over either guy (Don't get me wrong, I am not really of fan of Andre's conservative style, I just think his style beats Froch/Johnson 9 times out of 10, hell I think he'll be Bute as well)

I guess I don't know what to say here. GSP should be able to dismantle Diaz easily.
I'm against GSP being forced to move into different weight classes.. but without it, 170 is becoming a boring division.
Oh, and i think it's kinda bs that GSP always seems to get these fights in canada. Just my .02 cents.
I agree, Nick has better boxing and BJJ is pretty close between the two.....but GSP's wrestling and his defensive BJJ should be the telling tale here in this fight. Nick is gonna come out and look to bang and GSP is gonna change levels and take him down repeatedly while avoiding the occasional sub attempt. GSP in another 5 round point fight is the likely outcome. I look forward to the smacktalk and stare down more than the fight itself lol.

Northern California - Mixed Martial Arts Champion, Nick Diaz will continue pursuing his Mixed Martial Arts career instead of professional boxing as it has been deemed that it be in Nick's best interest to focus on his primary combat sport and profession.
Team Diaz had contemplated transitioning over to the boxing world in a legitimate attempt to pursue a high-level boxing career. These discussions began in 2009 with long-time boxing promoter, Don Chargin and proceeded up until recent times.
Never before in the history of both sports had a pound-for-pound MMA combatant in his prime had the desire or been contractually free to attempt to transition over to boxing.
The landscape of Mixed-Martial Arts moves at a rapid pace and while Diaz's chance to make history, becoming the first true cross-over MMA star to enter the boxing ring, an opportunity arose for Nick to make a different sort of history in his primary field of fighting.
Don Chargin states, "Nick is a good kid and a very exciting fighter.* Right now he has an opportunity of a lifetime as it pertains to his MMA career.* While I don't doubt that Nick and his team were serious about taking the big step into boxing, it only makes sense for him to finish what he started and see how far he can go in MMA before he does anything in boxing.* It's all about timing... we began these discussions over two years ago and nobody would have imagined the type of demand that there currently is for Nick as a mixed martial artist."
Cesar Gracie (Nick's manager) states, "There are some people that have said we were just posturing to go into professional boxing and they don't understand that this thing is something we had been working on since 2009.* It wasn't just out of nowhere but at this point in time, there's a certain chance that comes along once in a very long while and it only makes sense to stick to MMA as of right now.* Nick's been working really hard to get to this point in his MMA career and it wouldn't make sense for us to make that transition into boxing right now.* If this were a couple months ago or if certain fights had played out differently, we'd definitely be ready to go into boxing, but that's not how it played out.* Don Chargin is a great boxing promoter and he understood our dilemma completely and I thank him for that."
While the intrigue for the proposed Nick Diaz-Jeff Lacy bout had drawn a massive amount of media interest in its rumored status, this type of cross-over match-up will have to take place at a later date.
Diaz's MMA career will undoubtedly have some major changes within a short while as he's ready to transition into the next phase of his fighting career.
Don Chargin continued, "I've had a long promotional career filled with numerous big events dating back the 1960s.* Taking Nick Diaz into boxing would have undoubtedly been a big one but this is Nick's career and his legacy as a MMA fighter needs to be solidified now.* I wish him all the luck going forward and know that Zuffa will have itself one very exciting fighter for many years to come."
Nick had stated in a previous interview that the only thing at this point that would keep him interested in MMA was a fight for more money against GSP. Rumors are already starting to swirl about him being next in line for GSP and the fight possibly taking place towards the end of the year in Canada. There are already betting odds out on the rumored match up out as well with GSP opening as the heavy favorite.
