5  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Training Q&A / Re: front squats or basic squats? on: September 06, 2007, 12:51:11 AM
back squats lead to a serious back injury , like what the dude said with torque , compression , flexion...

basically front squats work a charm for my back and i feel it WAY more in my quads rather than my glutes/lower back with back squats

just depends on what works for your own body...experiment!

10  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Nutrition, Products & Supplements / Re: Curious about nutritional thinking. on: June 29, 2007, 03:44:25 PM
Should you count total cals out? Like say shoot for x-number and then find out what percentage of fats, protiens, and carbs should come out of that number? OR should you count the MACRO NUTRIENTS BY GRAMS and not worry about the total calorie count? I've been doing alot of reading into nutrition. It's the key to unlocking your body's BEST potential in my eyes.

personally i just stick to a calorie quota and just try to eat lots of meats and veges and salads , im low carb so yeah.

Life is too liquid to have a diet u can 100% stick too and stil socialise or get out and about , unless been a hermit is your thing?

E.g ill have 2300 cals per day for dieting and will just eat whatever and write down whereever the cal's im up to and spread it all out over 5-6 meals.

I make it as flexible as possible as sticking to a 'diet' is v boring , restrictive and eventually (well i have many times) rebelled.

Also if i really want something bad or its a family event where i cant eat like a 'bodybuilder' then i just work it into my calorie quota.

Its the best thing ive ever done , have stuck to the easiest , and felt the best on.

I do 15 X Total bodyweight in pounds = Maintenence , -500 for dieting. Works a treat.

Atm im doing carb cycling where i eat 5000 cals on a sunday of carbs/low fat and 6 days of 2300 high protein and fat.

Over 12 weeks i drop the 6 day figure by 50 cals a week , im on week 9 atm so next week counting down to week 8 will be 2250 and so on.

I think once u start counting grams of protein and fat it just gets way too much for a normal lifestyle. U should have a general idea of what is high fat/carb (chips , chocolate) or low fat/low carb like chicken breast.

Phew... Well thats how i do things and its the best thats worked for me after 6 years. Hope this helps Smiley

14  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Nutrition, Products & Supplements / Re: Palumbo Diet...ur 2 cents on: June 05, 2007, 03:14:51 AM
The Palumbo is not a good diet for bodybuilding because once the body is in ketosis the first source of fuel it will look for is muscle. Fat is harder for the body to use as fuel than muscle so the body will use the excess muscle (the body wants to maintain a homestasis, in which there is no need for excessive muscle) for fuel first then turn to stored fat. It is good diet if you are on the juice however.

So your saying that if your macros are 65% fat , 30% protein , 5% carbs that the body will use muscle for energy?  Roll Eyes

Have you researched your claim at all , or is this just what someone else told u?

15  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Nutrition, Products & Supplements / Re: Palumbo Diet...ur 2 cents on: June 05, 2007, 03:11:48 AM
my 2c is that it works and should only be used for a limited time, however the diet isnot functionally sound for trainers that are less than 200% committed or have lives and families/kids outside of bodybuilding.

How is eating low carb veges/berries , meat/fish/eggs/cheese , oils/fats NOT functional let alone a piece of piss to stick too?

Probably healthier than 99% of the population...
16  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Nutrition, Products & Supplements / Re: Palumbo Diet...ur 2 cents on: June 02, 2007, 01:35:19 PM
Been on it for 5 days and by the third day the lethargy wore off.

Definitely leaning out alot but still feel a little flat. Into the third week may introduce a few more carbs here and there but for now...

Only thing that sucks is peeing like a race horse, especially at night....

have a low fat carb up day once a week after a depletion workout
17  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Nutrition, Products & Supplements / Re: Does Carb Sensitivity matter in a calorie deficit? on: May 27, 2007, 02:46:34 PM
bro seriously not, I have tested that many times on myself, If I eat carbs I gain weight, when I restrict carbs (and we are talking about the simple carbs here) I loose weight... the right weight.

I have tried low carb 5 times over the last 5 years and everytime i have consistently become the leanest and most muscular everytime.

When I eat carbs its like an uphill battle , good for gaining muscle obviously , but cutting its a flip of the coin for me , EVEN when its same calories etc , low carbs just plain old works for some.

Probly works for fat people as i used to be 114 kg fat and struggled to ever be lean.

When I first went low carb it was the 1st time I ever got abs...

Carb sensitive  Huh

yeah itd make u lose weight from vommiting me say 3000 cal's is needed , 150 cal / can so thats 20 cans of tuna a day and 140 cans of tuna for 1 week  Grin Grin awesome
24  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Nutrition, Products & Supplements / Re: the tuna and water diet on: April 21, 2007, 03:17:22 PM
all hes doing is eating less calories than what hes consuming and because there no carbs he will drop water too

great if u dont mind your workout intensity going down the toilet and feeling like shit...

I find that what u see in the mirror and how u feel mentally are 2 things that should be kept in check

They used to think the world was flat ya know too...things have changed since drapers day , eat a balanced diet and find out how many calories u need to maintain then drop 500 from that and do more cardio.

Is the tuna diet safe? Well do u think tuna has everything a balanced diet from the 5 food groups has?

25  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Nutrition, Products & Supplements / Re: How much protein? on: April 21, 2007, 02:59:08 PM
I copyed this off someone a while back off my experience also this protein thing is all bullshit.

I have the RDI sometimes over with out trying , and gains are no different , if not better as theres more room for good fats and carbs.

If you paid me to say X amount of protein = more muscle id preach it like no tommoro.

This is a topic that is an interesting one mainly because of all the hype and advertising we see from the supplement companies .

I have given this advice before over the last few years here at Getbig, and that advice is: Dont waste your money on most supplements-------put that money in a savings account instead !!!

Training is of course the most important thing to building muscle.

I have been training since I was 11 years old (35 years of training), and I have seen a lot of people working out over the years in the gym who only ate regular meals and couldnt tell you what a supplement was---and made great gains.

I myself have used protein powders, liquid protein, vitamin tablets, dessicated liver tablets, creatine, and I can truly say that only creatine made any difference in my gains !

I was taking up to 350 or so grams of protein a day at a body weight close to 200 lbs at 5'6" tall--during one of my training binges.

I was eating the 6 meals a day blah blah blah---------and I did gain weight, but it was mainly just fat weight------my stomach gained a few inches, my face got bloated, I was just distributing fat all over my body.

The best thing I can say about that high protein diet was that I rarely ate any junk food at all (and I love junk food), and the reason I wasnt eating any junk food was because I was too full from stuffing my face every couple of hours !!!  So I did not crave sweets.

I have made just as good gains when I paid absolutely no attention to my diet--------there were days when I was maybe only getting only 50 or 60 grams of protein, and days when I was getting 150 grams -----whatever I ate, I ate. My gains were still the same.

The one supplement that I always see results from is Creatine !!!

No matter what I say, People are going to have to see for themselves, because even I get caught up in the hype--------if I was going to do all out training, I sure as heck was going to make sure I did absolutely everything I could (not steriods) to ensure the best gains possible----and of course I bought in to hype that maximum gains are not possible without supplements !!!

So I've been there done that numerous times.

I have learned that protein supplements make my wallet lighter, and more trips to the bathroom too, but I have learned that I see results within days from using Creatine !!!

Just me 2 cents-----but I have the experience and trial and error to justify my thoughts !!!  "
