5351  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Cutlers' book; "CEO Muscle" on: January 01, 2006, 10:16:15 PM
I respectfully beg to differ on the "won't work without drugs" idea. The book offers a basic blueprint on how to train and diet at various level of development. For some his ideas may be "overtraining" but I consider books like Brawn by McRobert and some of Mentzers later stuff to be UNDERTRAINING.
I personally think Jays book is pretty mainstream and useful for any bodybuilder.
5352  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Interview with Mike Morris on: January 01, 2006, 10:09:41 PM
Finally...some honesty about the drug issue.
It's refreshing to read about real doses on the pro-level, as opposed to the
desperate-for-credibility lies about "2 cc's per week..I swear's genetics".  Roll Eyes

As his natural test levels return to normal he'll definitely add some more size, but at this point in time cortisol is prolly stripping away most of his gains from the sauce.

I admire his honesty as well but doubt his test levels will ever return to normal on their own but ya never know. I wish the guy well and think he shows excellent judgement here. I mean the guy was never going to be a top 5 at the Olympia no matter what he took. I would love to see him rewarded with a supplement company contract where a real pro does only the supplements. I also would advise him to take some small amount of test and just keep thing in the ideal range. I for one will cheer for him and am thrilled that actual pro is taking a real stand against the body destruction policy that so many others follow. Hmmm, with me as  new fan, well, that may not be a good sign Shocked Wink Grin
5353  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Cutlers' book; "CEO Muscle" on: January 01, 2006, 09:55:41 PM
Jay's book CEO muscle is one of the best, practical guides for getting into top shape I have ever read.
It is straight forward and gimmick free. The guy is candid enough to admit that pro bodybuilders do enhance their physiques with drugs, but for obvious reaons leaves it at that.
The info on diet and training is nothing new or fancy and this may draw some critics. It is good, sound, basic info, with his insights and experiences.  I sincerely believe that if any bodybuilder followed the regimes and no nonsense ideas in this book, they would build a decent physique independent of drug use.
Jay is one of the best  OVERall pros out there today and I just wanted to pass along to the Get Big bunch how valuable I felt this book was. Just my 2 cents,  Howard

5354  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: WOW... courageous female competitor! on: January 01, 2006, 09:47:35 PM
You must be kidding me!

I'm sorry, but that's just ridiculous.  Some people should not be doing certain activities. A woman with no arms should not be in a physique contest for the same reason a 90-year-old man should not be in a physique contest.

I'm sure there are many things this young woman could do well at... figure competitions are not one of them.

Hope this helps.

I understand what you are saying here Goat, but the NPC has a disabled division and this is NOT merely wheelchair.
I am not sure if she entered in those kind of class as that is up to the promoter.
She is simply doing the best with the situation she is in and I admire her courage.
In the sport of bodybuilding we just get so damn critical and forget that any sport is a form of self actualization.
5355  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: % of actual size drugs give top bodybuilders? on: December 29, 2005, 03:41:23 PM

That seems pretty high of a %. That means a 190 lb natural could weigh 350 or more on drugs Huh
5356  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: how do you qualify for the arnold?? on: December 29, 2005, 03:39:28 PM
The Arnold is an invitational. If you want to be invited you submit a package (request letter, pics, etc).

Then the committee (I do not know who makes up the committee) gets together and votes on everyone who submitted and comes up with a list if invitees.

This is pretty much true overall and what I think is wrong with pro bodybuilding. I understand the need to qualify for the Olympia but these pro invitational shows are wrong. If a pro wants to compete in any IFBB show except the O, they should be allowed. Why get a pro card if you can't do the bigger shows without a special invite?
5357  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / % of actual size drugs give top bodybuilders? on: December 29, 2005, 03:25:04 PM
A good analogy on this issue is bench pressing with high tech bench shirt vs without.
One top guy is Scott Mendelson who can bench  a bit over 700 raw but can do a good 200 lbs more with the shirt. Therefor we can conclude a really top guy can expect 20-25% more wt in the shirt.
I would be interested in what is the actual size difference on drugs vs natural.
My guess would be it might be ablout the same as the infamous bench shirts of today, a good 20-25%.
Take Ronnie who competes at 270-280 range in most shows now. He was natural enough to pass the drug test twice to win the hvy wt IFBB Universe in 1991 at a little over 210. With another decade of training with his awesome genetics he could be 220-225 lbs drug free, a difference of 50 lbs aprox. This is aprox the 20-25% extra a bench shirt gives to a powerlifter. Look at the top hvy wts at the Team U, like Skip Lacour, they weigh a good 50 lbs less than Guys like Ronnie or Jay.
I think this estimate is reasonable, what do you think?
5358  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Bodybuilding could learn from Bobby Jones ( a real sports legend) on: December 29, 2005, 03:13:07 PM
Mcfarland, I enjoyed reading your post thanks and to to Dirk D, yes it is sad that bodybuilding today is a far cry from the ideal pursuit of "physical culture" it was in years past.

As for Bobby Jones losing by the stroke he took from himself due to a penalty, well, he was no matyr.
He knew his ball moved, and while it only moved a little it did move and the rule states this is a 1 stroke penalty. When asked why he said ; " I don't know any other way to play this game."

To me that is the key difference as follwing the rules allows one to establish a real baseline of performance.  For example the modern high tech bench shirts allow one to lift a whole lot more wt.
The 20% extra wt is due to the shirt NOT the lifter. Yes, they are lifting more wt, but it is due to the short NOT the guy , he didn't get any stronger.

Winning is the goal for all in any sport, however when everyone keeps bending the rules with drugs and related technolgy it is hard to determine who really is "the best" as we end up with no real legit baseline to measure from.
5359  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Bodybuilding could learn from Bobby Jones ( a real sports legend) on: December 29, 2005, 12:03:58 AM
For those that don't know who or what he was , Bobby Jones was the only golfer to win the grand slam and he did it back 75 years ago. He was one of the most respected class acts in any sport. He refused to compete as a pro or take money for playing golf despite many chances (the big events were pro ams back then). He lost the US Open by one stroke after calling a penalty on himself that amazed everyone. When asked why he would risk winning by doing this he replied, " I don't know any other way to play this game." He founded the golf course known as Augusta National the location know today as the "The Masters". He was humble and said he played for the pure love of the game and competition with dignity and mutual respect. At the start of his career he earned two college degrees while playing , the 2nd a law degree which was how he made his living. He spend his days in the promtion of the sport he loved, lawyer and devoated husband and father. He served in WWII as fighter pilot and died a tragic death in 1971 due to a neurological spinal based disease at his home in Atlanta.

No, I don't play gold nor am I much of a golf fan. I was watching his bio movie on HBO recently and was blown away with his life story.

It also struck me how far from this man's ideals most in bodybuilder are removed from.
The sport sadly lacks those who exhibit selfLESS character and ethical behavior. Wouldn't it be great of the best bodybuilder followed the actual rules (no drugs allowed) beause it was the right thing to do.I would love to see a whole new generation of elite , gifted bodybuilders that competed as amatuers and did it for love of pumping iron while working in other societal professions.
I also know most will laugh or blow off this post and in the end it will be a waste of time to even address these issues and the example of a man like Bobby Jones. That being true, what does hat say about our bodybuilding and the whole world of elite level modern sport....pretty damn sad if you ask me.
5360  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: SHAWN RAY. Your thoughts about Skip Lacour. on: December 28, 2005, 11:44:28 PM
Well, I for one have always had a great deal for Skip as a person. As an Athlete I gained even more respect for him. Skip is one of themost intellegent Bodybuilders Pro or Amateur that I have had the pleasure of working with.
I believe he is Drug Free when he says it, there is nothing for him to gain by saying that but I have never asked him to prove it why?
That being said, visit Skips web site, he reveals everything for you guys to follow to help you Nutritionally and Training wise.
Sadly, there are knuckleheads on this board who wont read, try or practice some very laid out guidelines Skip shares to follow in order to look the way Skip does.
I personally, haven't trained since early in March of 2005 by choice.
After 21 years without a break, to be able to make the transition into Fatherhood, New Job position, new house and not competing it is nice to finally relax.
It stands to reason I would not look as I did, heck I have been retired from competition for 5 years!
S. Ray

Good answer Shawn. It amazes me how a pro retires from active competition and everyone thinks they should remain in top shape. You never hear fans in other sports expecting retired pros to perform at the same level.
I agree, Skip seems like a hard working straight shooter and many refuse to believe he does not take drugs.
If they admit that, what other excuses do they have for looking like crap Shocked
I also think Skip would agree that your record in bodybuilding speaks volumes...end of story.
5361  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: recent criminal acts in/around elite bodybuilding on: December 23, 2005, 11:04:34 PM
Not sure about the "gay crowd" implications Huh, but I hope we are both wrong, but I fear we are right.
5362  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Craig Titus & Kelly Ryan Discussions / Re: On the radio: 12-23-05: Titus & Ryan focus featuring Dan Solomon and Bob Chick on: December 23, 2005, 11:03:23 PM
The "Search for the Killers" tour update.

When we last left our heroes they had crossed the border into Mexico and were on the trail of Titus and Kelly.  Shawn Ray, Dan Salamander, Bob Chikerello and King Kamali.  Our intrepid reporters ("We Report, You Decide") from Bodybuilding Pro Weekly radio were covering the action .....

Stopping at El Jacinto, 4 hours south of the Border, Shawn Ray suggested they change into Mexican wardrobe to blend in better.  King got the biggest sombrero.

2 hours later, and now in disquise,  they got a tip that Titus and Kelly had come through the tiny Mexican town of Guadabajarra.

By nightfall, however, the trail turned cold and our heroes had pulled off the road, started a campfire, were toasting marshmwellows and telling ghost stories.  The whole thing can be heard live via satelite on Bodybuilding Pro Weekly!!!!

Too bad they got caught, damn. All this idea needed was Geraldo Rivera and Fox news
5363  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: The Best Of Jay Cutler - New Video on: December 23, 2005, 10:57:06 PM
The video looks great, I will most likely buy it. I really enjoyed Jay's book; CEO Muscle.
I have found Jay to be one of the few real professionals in this game and wish we had more like him in the pro ranks.
At the GNC back in 2003, when Dex won, Jay got 2nd and Levronne 3rd. That top 3 was not only ideal for the kind of ripped , flat stomach physiques, but all 3 acted like real men . I really enoyed  that show.
5364  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / recent criminal acts in/around elite bodybuilding on: December 23, 2005, 10:47:32 PM
I am NOT going to say that the Titus/ Ryan murder charge will be typical of pro bodybuilders. I will say that we have seen a pick up in various illegal activities and top bodybuilders being arrested or being indicted for various offenses, many which are only drug related.
Face it folks, to compete as a top bodybuilder these days, you pretty much have to break the current federal drug laws. As I have said for some time now, this kind of underground, illegal drug activity does, in MY OPINION, foster an atmosphere of renegade , outlaw, law be damned attitude.
I am NOT saying the Titus murder charge is all due to illegal bodybuilding drug use, that is a pretty wild situation. But c'mon, with all the folks being indicted over drugs, going to jail and involved in all kinds of seedy acts is it any wonder we now see this Titus/ Ryan deal?
While the Titus deal is pretty extreme, it may be the one big relfection BACK on bodybuilding that needs to be seen, or the pro end of the sport is in even bigger trouble. I hope to GOD I am wrong and crazy on this.
What do you think?
Oh and Merry Christams GET BIG.

5366  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: What happens to the pros after they retire? on: December 20, 2005, 02:50:19 PM
Fomer national MDWT champ and Mr U Richard Baldwin had a great, classic Zane like physique, is a prof of ancient languages at brnach of FSU in Pannama City, smart guy, great physique.
5367  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: ...hypothetically, how would the pro's score their sauce? on: December 19, 2005, 07:01:35 PM
A lot of Pros are deep in the gear trade. A few of em get popped for it here and there. A few names come to mind.

The personal use is not what bugs me, but when you deal, then you get busted, or so it seems. Huh
5368  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Craig Titus & Kelly Ryan Discussions / Re: craig titus kelly ryan murder charges on: December 19, 2005, 07:00:04 PM
This is the last thing the bodybuilding world needs, I hope this is another ugly rumor.
5369  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Pros and cons of being a top bodybuilder? on: December 17, 2005, 03:25:46 AM
Sadly, unlike the big sports, of football, baseball, basketball, tennis, golf and soccer, pros in bodybuilding don't make millions of dollars. They work hard, even take risks for a paltry paycheck compared to other sports. I suspect they are in bodybuilding because they love it and it is the sport they had some talent for.
What do you think some of the good vs bad things about  being a pro are?

For me, I finally have accepted my place. I don't have the drive, genetics or desire to do the drugs needed to be a pro. I am happy to compete for Mr Podunk and still enjoy watching the top guys from the auidiance.
5370  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Natural BBer Michael O'Hearn on: December 17, 2005, 03:01:27 AM
Natural or not he has a better build than just about any IFBB pro.

He does look a lot better than many of them, but there are many well ahead of him, like Dex, Darrem,Priest etc. The guys is BIG, and is tall with a big frame that was made to carry lots of muscle. He speaks well and has the Hollywood leading man looks.
Since he is quite handsome and does not have 12 or more tatoos or talk like "Boomer" on Hank Hill, some insecure, jealous guys will call him "gay ".
The natural thing, well, only he knows 100% for sure on that. But it is very obvious that the vast majority of his build is GENETIC folks. Of course by claiming any guy with decent size  "has gotta be on the sauce" and never considering great genetics, they don't ever have to admit the reason they suck is due to their  own crappy genetics.
OUCH! Truth does tend to be a tough pill to swallow Wink

5373  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Natural BBer Michael O'Hearn on: December 16, 2005, 03:27:59 PM
You guys amaze me Roll Eyes
Look I have no idea if Mike is 100% natural, bu I have met him in person and seen his body over the years. I honestly believe that the guy is the product of hard training, good diet and GREAT genetics.
As for looking "gay" well, every woman I have ever spoken to about  bodybuilders is 100% positive on Mike O'hearn being very attractive to them. My wife felt he was really hot.

Of course if you crack on him for being gay, you don't have to deal with the reality that he gets a lot more looks from hot babes than most of us ever dream of.
Same idea with saying "he must be on the suace". That way you can blame your lack of size or contest success on the lack of the right drugs instead of dealing with the reality that your genetics suck.

5374  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: bodybuilding was about overall, strength, fitness , and physique etc? on: December 16, 2005, 03:15:41 PM
Gyms around the country are full of well-rounded trainers. People that want a nice physique, cardiovascular fitness, and a healthy lifestyle. If your expecting to find "well-rounded" people at the highest level of any sport, your barking up the wrong tree.

I think you missed my main point. I am not saying pros or top national level bodybuilders need to be well rounded. I was refereing more to the avg guy or gal that gets into a sport as a hooby. It amazes me how some fans in various sports get all into it, at the point of being obsessed.
