I decided to compete as I thought I could do well.In 2004 I won The NPA Central England Novice Title,in 2005 I won the NPA Heart of England Over 78 kg class,placed second in the South East and won the couples,placed 5th in the British Finals in the over 78s and won the couples and then represented Britain in the UIBBN World Championships in Paris placing 4th in the couples.How many shows have you won or even competed in???

Have you got any offseason pictures?

I'd say so.

The main concern is exercise technique, which goes beyond simple "good form". "Excellent form" is beyond the understanding of more than 99% of people training with weights. If everybody had excellent dedication to training and excellent form we'd all be lifting excellent weights and looking excellent. Thats the gods honest truth! Most guys can do as many sets and reps for side delts as they like they will only end up with big arse traps and mediocre deltoids. Another guy might only need 1 set to toast his delts and still have fairly fresh traps, the reason isn't genetic (although everybody thinks that when they see his big delts and 1 set rouitine) it's excercise performance.

1 mans set is another mans workout. Which is why all 1 size fits all set and rep prescriptions are flawed. AGAIN THE REASON IS NOT GENETICS! This phenomena would be entirely predictable even if all bodybuilders were genetic clones.

OK...I know how I feel about the whole cardio thing, I am against it.  In my mind I would rather have a slightly stricter diet and do less cardio.  I also know everyone is different but I will give you my experience and I would like to hear what you all have to say.

I competed at 115 (8% bodyfat) last year and was too thin, not enough muscle.  During pre-contest prep I would do 3-5 sessions of cardio a week for 30-60 minutes.  Didn't do cardio the entire winter and just focused on lifting, got up to 140 and gained a massive amount of strength (for a girl Wink).  I'm pre-contest again and am dreading the cardio.  Haven't started doing it yet, just cleaned up my diet and I am already down to 130 (13-14%??).  I'm eating about 2000 clean calories a day (100 G. carbs) and haven't seen too much loss in strength...yet.  My goal is 120, 8%.  Right now I've been leaning out very well (I swear by my supplements and that they have helped lean my out faster). 

So my quandary...I was going to incorporate 3-4 days of cardio 25-40 minutes 12 weeks out from Junior Nationals (I have a smaller show in 8 weeks), so four weeks from now.  Some other competitors were telling me it is BETTER to eat more calories and carbs but do more cardio and I'll come in tighter.  Is that true???  I can understand more cardio the last week or so to get some water weight off but how will it help you get tighter now?  It seems counter-intuitive to me to eat more, spend energy on cardio as opposed to keeping a clean diet and limiting cardio (which I believe leads to muscle loss) and focusing all my attention on lifting.

Wanted to know how you guys felt about this.  Also, some of the people giving me the advice were definitely not natural which I think would make a difference.

You lost ten pounds when you cleaned up your diet. Maybe you are allergic to something you removed from your diet? Your body might've been trying to dilute the toxins by holding onto fluid. How fast did you loose the weight?

Don't really have much of an opinion about the cardio, except that I'm starting to come around to the idea that more exercise and more calories could work better. Usually when I loose fat it just kind of happens when I get stressed or tired of forcing food down.

Why is the plate on the bar Valentino is using not round? It looks like a cam. I think maybe his right arm is the one he had operated on so he put a wooden plate on that side.
The synthol user on this kind of scale is always going to be weaker after the injections because of aspect ratio. Theres no way in hell Valentino is ever gonna curl 110lb dumbells now. But he might of done when he had real 18 inch arms LOL

240 with 10 pound  illusion that makes him look 250. not even 1 pound more and horrible physiqe.

This guys has alot of muscle packed onto a small frame, I'm sure he weighs more than you think. Plus if you look at his shape I shouldn't think illusion is on his side. He certainly has a completeness and density in this pose alot of guys don't have.

I've read some of his stuff, I like his attitude and I love that he has listened to some motivational speakers like Zig Zigler and Anthony Robbins-I think that's his name. 
I think the PHD's and people he works with at AST are kinda an x-factor, they obviously know thier shit and Skip and Willet have improved alot since hooking up with them...

I thought Skip had got worse. Whos Zig Ziggler?

I've been dying to ask this question, on this board:
Do you think Skip Lacour is natural or not?
I say yes.  the reason being is he's pretty much paid to be what he is.  Meaning it's his job to train and eat and take the right supplements.  He also has the entire AST team behind him.  I've read his and Willets training journals and it seems like they are always being evaluated by the guys there, getting thier supplements, training and diet tweaked.  The guys doing the evaluations are PHD's so they are getting the best advice possible.  Now i don't think this is what the average natural guy can hope to achieve unless you have no job and are rich enough to have the support staff this guy has.  hell, I wish AST would hire me, I'd love to see what I could achieve with that type of support team behind me.

I believe Lacours natural. I also believe his posative attitude is a greater asset than any of those PHD's.

PS: Lacour may work as a bodybuilder but have you seen all the stuff he's written. He's not one of these guys who sleeps all day long and only gets outta bed to train he earns his money. Anybody working from home is in a comparable situation to Skip.

In a nutshell Mike your carb intake is way too low for the amount of training you're doing (cardio) As I'm sure you know carbs are your source of energy and no matter how much protein you consume if you don't have the energy to train then whats the sense of competing. 150grms is the equivlant to 1 cup of rice and I don't consider brocolli and cauliflower carbs, they are cellulose and a non-energy source. here's what I would do. I would cycle your diet as such:
Days 1-4- Protein, low carbs (approx 100grms)
Day 5 - no protein and take in carbs that equal the amount of your protein intake. ( the reason...your metabolism will slow on days 1-4. Carb loading on the 5th day will jack your metabolism back up and keep burning for about a day and a half. The whole idea is to keep your body burning. If you don't have carbs all the cardio in the world won't help. Make sense?)
Day 6 - Repeat Days 1-4 and so on.

Ha Ha you do write for Musclemag. LOL. Why is it when you guys describe exercises it always sounds like you're just giving a reproduction of somebody elses explanation of how to do the exercise well, without actually ever having had an understanding of the finer points of what you're talking about?
