I'm not alluding to that, and I'm not talking about you moving there. Criticise from the sweet air of freedom. These men are scum and should be called out as such.
I never said they were not scum... I deplore what he did. My point was that even if it is OK in his former society, that's not his society now... well, at the time he did that deed. Of course I criticize from the "air of freedom" as you put it... I'm fortunate enough to live HERE. If I was not, then I would not know any better as I would have been conditioned to believe that what I was doing at the time was indeed "right". I have never said that I do not enjoy my freedoms... I certainly do... enough to fight tooth and nail to keep them, even though some would say that makes me for "them", and not "us". How does my critique in "free air" have anything to do with the subject? The fact you can retort is also a symbol of the freedom we share.

You don't have a right to tell them that's wrong when in Saudi Arabia. That's because they would execute you for not being Islamic. Where you are right now, you can, and you should.
First off, I'm not defending them, nor their culture (as you seem to be alluding to), because it's not mine... but it IS theirs. You may not like it, but that's the way it is... you nor any other person has any right to say that their way is worse than yours. You "believe" it to be worse, but in reality, that's just your opinion and there's millions of "alalalalalalalalala"s running around who say otherwise. Now, the point I'm making is not about who has "rights" or what have you... It's simple... when you go to other countries in general, you assimilate. You should... If you move to France for a job, learn French... Germany, German and so on. If anyone who is of a culture that disrespects women moves to a civilization that does not, then they need to learn to deal with it and assimilate... that's my point. Don't make this about Islam, because it's not. You could be in a tribe in Africa and they could be the same way, but they don't fly airplanes into buildings... So, my point IS if you move to another area whose culture is different from yours, you should assimilate to that culture, or what's the point of moving in the first place. Even if it's about money... it's about the money that being in that culture provides you.

middle class is dissapearing?
where do you get this rubbish. more people own their own homes today (% and total) than ever before. more people have college education then ever before. middle class is doing just fine
It's not complete rubbish, it's just not seen yet. Yes, more people have homes, and where 50 years ago a single income could keep you in middle class, often today it can not. Many people are also busy running up record amounts of debt to maintain their middle class status. While it may not just be "disappearing"... It will erode because eventually, someone must pay the bills.

Well, you don't have to respect their beliefs at all, even if nothing can be done about it. But as a wise person once said, "the west has every right to defend her hardwon right of equality." This behavior doesn't have to be condoned in the west, just because it belongs to a culture that encourages the abuse of women in other, less enlightened countries.
Edit: I was paraphrasing. The correct quote is... "The West has every right to defend its character, including its hard-won principle of equality."
Hey, I'm not saying it should be... If someone migrates to another area, they should do what is done THERE. When in Rome and all that. If someone moves across the street from me and he beats his wife, he should go to prison or whatever, it should not be tolerated... I'm simply saying that if I move to Saudi Arabia and everyone beats their wives there, while I may not, I certainly have no right to tell them it's wrong.

Mortgage interest and child deductions help me too, but I still pay through the nose. It sucks. Yes, we agree on how the government wastes our hard earned money. I am in favor of either abolishing the IRS or significantly changing how we deal with taxes. I was talking to someone from Wyoming a while back. He said they don't have any state income taxes. Oregon and Texas are the same way. And yet their governments survive. I am hoping someone like Steve Forbes comes along again reinvigorates the tax discussion. It's really a burden. Most of those states have higher sales taxes and what not, but that is included in the purchase of an item similarly to a tariff or what have you. The fed could easily do the same thing, but it's a business... You don't even want to get me started on the whole "Federal Reserve" thing... That's nothing but corporate greed.

Nobody here knows for sure if it's 30 years, or 300 years.
You're both just quoting experts motivated by caution (30 years' destruction!) or corporate greed (nothing is wrong!)
And, you're probably both doing it based upon your party affiliation.
I know I'm not... I simply don't want to drown when the ice caps melt or have my great great great grandkids have to wear spf 412321 sunblock. I just don't understand how we can NOT want to take care of our environment. Even if it's all BS... is there really any harm in protecting it? The thing I find the most interesting is how the typical conservative (political) loves the rivers, lakes, streams, and all that nature provides as they are the ones most likely to utilize them to hunt, fish, or otherwise enjoy their lives, but they don't care about protectiing them. It's just an interesting thing.

Did he ever stop going on about this? http://thinkprogress.org/2005/12/14/silent-night-fraud/From the article: War on Christmas Fraud Exposed: The Silent Night “Rewrite” That Wasn’tOn Friday, Bill O’Reilly took to the airwaves to share the latest “War on Christmas” outrage: In Dodgeville, Wisconsin, the Ridgewood Elementary School has changed the song Silent Night to Cold in the Night and forced the kids to sing the lyrics, “Cold in the night, No one in sight, Winter winds whirl and bite,” to the tune of the original Silent Night. O’Reilly was by no means the only conservative to repeat this story. During a Dec. 10 appearance on Fox News, Mathew Staver of the Liberty Counsel said the presentation at Ridgewood Elementary had “no balance here. They have no Christian Christmas carols.” He even threatened to sue the school: People are outraged. We sent a demand letter asking them to immediately change the song and allow the actual lyrics of “Silent Night,” and if they do not, if they insist on this ridiculous course of action, we’ll file a federal lawsuit. As it turns out, the entire story is a fraud. Ridgewood Elementary didn’t change the lyrics to “Silent Night.” What they did was perform a 1988 copyrighted play called “The Little Tree’s Christmas Gift.” That play actually contains numerous songs about Christmas, including the grand finale, an audience-led group singing of “We Wish You A Merry Christmas.” The play’s creator, Dwight Elrich, happens to lead the New Covenant Singers of Bel Air Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles. In fact, “The Little Tree’s Christmas Gift” has been performed in several churches, including the Oakwood Forest Christian Church in Kingsport, Tennessee, the St. Anthony Parish School in Des Moines, Iowa, and St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of Abeline, Texas. So why are the Silent Night lyrics changed in “Little Tree’s Christmas”? Because the play is about a small, lonely Christmas tree that is told it is “too scraggly, it will never sell.” That character sings the revised lyrics — “Cold in the night, No one in sight, Winter winds whirl and bite” — in a scene lamenting his sad state. The rewording has absolutely nothing to do with “secularizing” the song. Sorry, Virginia, there is no “War on Christmas.”

Yes you're right, and women in general have more to fear in their daily lives than men do. As far as spousal violence goes, it transcends many societal factors... rich, poor, ethnicity, etc... abused women are found in every walk of life. This particular case is a little more specific. A few crude examples would be: if I read that a murdering rapist was loose in my town, I'd worry. If I heard only blonde women were targeted, I'd be 100 times more worried. Men pulverize each other in bars every weekend. If I were your average caucasian jock, I'd take my chances in any jock, sports bar. If I were gay, however, I'd worry a lot more about getting the beatdown of my life any time I stepped into one. This is like that. Women of a certain community are sent a message that if they don't toe the line, they could be next. I'm a little surprised that an emancipated woman would downplay this. You're entitled to your opinion of course. Just a little surprised. If Amish men in particular were abusing or victimizing women, I would hope that would be discovered and exposed. Why is exposing this any different? Should people be silent to avoid offending others of another culture?
Not at all... I'm sure there's tons of spousal abuse in Amish society... as there is with any social sub-culture, however it's not all over the news. No one is saying be silent, not in the slightest, however I'm quite certain that his ethnicity is playing a much larger role in it's newsworthiness... That's just how things are right now.

Not in anyone's lifetime for the 300 years, it's part of a cycle and they seem to want to make a big deal out of it, we have bigger problems to deal with then just a bunch hipocrytes making a big deal out of relatively nothing!
That may be true, but I thought we were supposed to be thinking about the future? I mean, I'm worried about Al Quaeda in the future, but I'm worried about the entire planet in the future. I don't think you can put the priority of the destruction of the entire planet behind a terrorist organization which has to have money to fund it... Follow the money back to the source and there you go. Oh wait... some of that money came from the US didn't it? I think Global Warming and the destruction of the entire planet is a bigger deal than a terrorist organization who has up until this time committed one terrorist plot on US soil... They should be stopped, but you can't tell me that the destruction of the planet should play second fiddle to an organzation who has only had one successful plot on US soil and even that success is a bit suspect to many people. If you think Al Quaeda is bigger than the destruction of the ENTIRE planet... well, that's your call, but I don't agree with it. P.S... still trying to figure out why we don't either have Bin Laden in custody, or the guys dead body.

It's very predictable.....he'll win for his movie "Inconvenient Lies".....err, I mean truth. Funny how Libs are more afraid of the environment then they are of Al Queda!
Al Quaeda hasn't yet shown that they will destroy the earth... Just the white men and Jews... Global warming could make it so no one has to fear from any terrorist organization ever again. And I think it has more to do with the fact you can grab a terrorist by his neck and choke him, you can't do that with the environment.

My God what a bunch of merry TOOLS on this site - and yes, it's leader in this instance of "WOW I'M IMPORTANT BECAUSE I DID A SEARCH AND FOUND SOMETHING I CAN USE AGAINST A PRO THAT I WISH I WAS AS BIG AS BUT AREN'T BECAUSE I SPEND MORE TIME SEARCHING FOR PORN ON THE NET THEN I DO SQUATTING IN THE GYM" posting, we find SquidFarmer linking us to a video of Luke Wood doing a set of safety bar squats. Of course, the immediate MORONIC assumption by the ass-clown collective known as GET BIG TROLLS, have IMMEDIATELY run to and bowed down to and proceeded to kiss the fungi-filled toes of SquidFarmer for finding such a video which in thier eyes PROVES that Luke Wood is weak! Of course! because, naturally, THIS IS A HARD SET FOR HIM! I mean, don't you see the sweat pouring down his face, the lack of PERFECT FORM, the LACK OF CONCENTRATION and the mere desire to push the bar up and down through an uncontrolled range of motion? NO YOU TROLLS! NO, NOT AT ALL! Instead, we see LUKE WOOD executing PERFECT FORM with this movement, the way it SHOULD BE DONE - correctly, controlled, with focus, and probably worried only about the contracting of his quads and the proper motion to move from point a to point b without cheating. But no, the GET BIG COLLECTIVE TROLL ASSOCIATION have once again failed to use COMMON SENSE or REASON in thier immediate responses. Yes, the clueless will write "GEE, A DAH I CAN A DOO A LOT MORE DAN LUKE WOOD AND HE IS A PUSSY I CAN SQUAT 7 PLATES FOR 15 REPS AND YEAH!" forgetting that Mr. Wood is a BODYBUILDER and not a POWERLIFTER. The morons aka ASS CLOWN GET BIG COLLECTIVE COCK TWISTS will also state that this is the MILOS secret to getting quads disregarding anything Milos has ever written or done in his life regarding how to build quads. Yes, the morons will flock to the scene like flies on a freshly dumped pile of dog-dung, feasting and praying thier insatiable desire to troll will one day be met - perhaps by getting LAID and forgetting that you actually have to WORK OUT and LIFT WEIGHTS to have muscle. Congrats - GetBiggers, you've once again proven how an idiot can always find new and creative ways to embarass himself. And what was the point of this now? I tried to read through it, but all I got out of it was "Blah Blah Gay Sex, Blah Blah congress."

Tu, I am an old geezer at 45 so I saw Mike fight in person back around 1985 and 1986 at the Felt Form and Madison Square Garden proper. I also used to go fishing up in the Catskills around that time and we would frequently see Mike doing his roadwork. I think Tyson 1985 through 1988 would have knocked out Lewis.
I only got to see Tyson on PPV back then, but I agree... Tyson in my opinion from 84-88 was the best ever... he was like a pit bull let off his leash (to paraphrase Jamie Foxx). I'd talk shit to anyone else on the the planet before I did it to Tyson from that day.

Yes of course. But the reason this sort of thing sparks more outrage, news space, is because of the fact that the negative impact affects a whole community of people.
I think it's more about the topic of the day... Right now, anyone from the South East Europe or South West Asia area (See Middle East) do anything crazy will get the press... This is certainly the case. If this guy had been a white guy, no one would have said more than, this is some crazy white dude who's lost his mind... because he's Middle Eastern, it's a cultural issue and it's designed to show how crazy those people from the Deserts are... While I do know his cultural upbringing is a part of it, I am fairly certain that it's a bigger issue because of that then it would be if he was an Amish guy who did the same thing.

The difference is that the above are random acts of violence (except maybe no 3) and no others in a community need fear that the same kind of acts will be perpetrated on them. In this case, the act is like a hate crime, or act of terrorism because it sends a message to many others of the same community to "heed a warning." I think.
While I see your point DeeDee... to me... Crazy is crazy... you can wrap it around religion, culture, money, whatever... It's still crazy.

they can't change it. They sholdn't. you have states like Cali or Ny with populations that outnumber many other states combined.
In theory, a guy could run on a ticket that says "I will send all the money and food to these top15 populated states". He might get the majority by winning 15 of 50 states.
Little states matter, and guys have to promise them resources too, to win.
I disagree... This is a democracy... Democracy is about "Majority Rule"... That equates to total populace... The electoral college goes against everything that is right about Democracy. The Electoral college is an antiquated system which was designed due to lack of information about the candidates in your more rural areas... In todays information age, the information is available to pretty much everyone. Oh, and it was about Florida... Gore didn't need to win Tennessee, he needed to win Florida... and he should have... That's pretty much it. He's not the first person to win the popular and lose the electoral though... he's just the only one in my lifetime.
