the last few over all national champs have not really done anything on the pro level. Duvall is out of the "sport" Cook is floundering around...I never thought he was all that good...now Willmore...I just don't see him doing all that well. I might be wrong, who knows. It seems like they award size, as in "he's a super heavy so give it to him" over anything else. Yeah it looks good on paper when a 250+ pounder wins but if they are not complete and polished they shouldn't get the overall. Back in the day a guy like Shawn or Vince Taylor or Strydom could win the overall at the nationals and step right on a pro stage and be a force, now a days the over all winner-usually the SH-is getting smoked by everyone else he beat to be a pro. Get rid of the SH class, it's a joke.
I have to disagree with you..Duvall, Cook have/had what it takes physically but they lost focus somewhere along the ride. Willmore is more focused than ever and he will be an excellent pro. As for "back in the day" Strydom was all shoulders...no back, hams or calves.... The SH class is for true super heavyweights..not insecure heavyweights.

Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: IFBB Men's Figure - You knew it was coming

As predicted, the "Classic Bodybuilding" division is now a reality in the IFBB and will be contested at this year's Men's World Amateur Championships. Is this a sad statement about bodybuilding today or does this have the potential to grow the industry for everyone? Discuss.
The men's figure/fitness has been going on in Europe for about 4 years now. From my understanding some countries could not get recognized as a sport and receive federal funding the bodybuilding route. Now, they are...for instance Greece is now a "recognized" sport and all top athletes are getting pay checks when they medal at International events such as the Balkan Championships, European Championships, World Championships..etc.

Sorry, but I'm not gonna post the interview here! I want to SELL it, not give my work away for free. After it's been printed, that'll be different. Until then, I want to get the thing into Muscular Development. Rod Call MD yourself. If you believe you have a great product...don't be shy about. Go for it!!

Mentis, i remember the impressive M&F cover you had circa 96 you look a bit different now.

It's funny you say that.. the pics I posted above..I am only 5 pounds lighter than I was on the covers in 96. I felt great then and I still feel great today. Ofcourse I look different, it's been 10 years ..cmon Dearth ...we all move forward. I'm not training as hard and paying more attention to my business which will go live at the Arnold Classic this March. MD will be the first magazine with some info before the launch.

Jimmy M c'mon, a smart guy like you trying to compare the risks of bodybuilding drug abuse to eating KFC...wtf, c'mon, please. If you mean some guys won't tolerate the high levels of drugs used the same, well, that is true. I am thrilled a pro finally stood up and said enough of this insanity, my overall well being is more important and I refuse to quit the sport.
Hey Howard..I totally agree with you. I was just responding to a previous post that mentioned Parabolan effects the kidneys. ..

in my opinion the only anabolic steroid that screws with the kidneys is trenbalone. i took it for 4 weeks and my lower middle back(kidney area) hurt like hell. i couldn't even walk up stairs. i quit it immediately. i believe alot of the pros abuse tren for precontest to get hard as hell. i think its one of the dirtiest steroids out there and will never touch it again.
High blood pressure puts alot of strain on the kidneys. I doesn't have to be a substance in particular..hey a few buckets of KFC could do it...it depends on each individual.

Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: BB Legend: Berry Demey
|

Berry has a younger brother named Jorgen who also competed.
De Mey was the man and one of my favorite pros back in the day. He took 3rd in the 1988 Olympia in Los Angeles, beaten only by the dynamic duo of Lee Haney and Rich Gaspari and was in the Olympia top 6 for the three years before that.
He joined Vince McMahon's ill-fated WBF and that pretty much put the kibosh on his IFBB pro career afterwards.
Berry is 43 years old now.
Berry De Mey..now that is a blast from the past.....I had the privilege to meet him back in 1986. It was during the European tour when they stopped in Greece for the Athens Grand Prix. Lee Labrada surprisingly beat Rich Gaspari.. It was a great group of guys and I enjoyed hosting them at my gym that week. Berry lost the World Championships to Bob Paris and went on to win the World Games.
