2  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Is Ronnie at the early stages of Palumboism? on: June 15, 2007, 08:45:26 PM
come on Toxic:

ronnie may be a shell of his former self (after all, he is 43),

Saying ronnie, in th pic above, is a shell of himself is like saying barry Bonds (in a year when he "only "hits 55 home runs ) is a shell of himself.

basically, it's EASY to be a shell of your self when you are that great BB wise.

In Ronnie's, "shell of himself" physique he is still light years of every other guy up there including a very little detailed jay Cutler.

Jay is looking big, but even as hard and lean as he is now he shows little detail in his delts back or arms and hams....that isn't good because it doesn't change much from here...The changes will be evident but not nearly enough to compare to a detailed, 80% Ronnie.

Ronnie on the other hand is showing detail even at this very high weight this far out.  he has ALOT of changes to make with 15-20 pounds less bodyweight.

Ronnie will win the O and he should have won last year.

no, its when he lost to jay Undecided

And that in itself is a joke!!

A great time in BB.  A time when BB didn't finish sets at 4-6 reps...when the workout wasn't over after 30 minutes, when there was no such thing as cheat meals during pre contest training and the quality of muscle clearly shows...  Today only few have similar quality and depth.
5  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: James Toney tests positive for 'roids on: June 14, 2007, 03:18:36 PM
A cyclist like Landis does NOT take large amounts of anabolic steroids. The dosages are minute by any bodybuilding standard. They are only used in small amounts to get the levels back to normal after a race, through oral test undecanoate or a transdermal for example. Sometimes the levels get too high because absorption can vary like in this case. A substantial amount of AAS KILLS performance. Same with hGH. They take a large variety of different drugs though but it's not like they shoot multi-cc's of juice.

Who said he takes large amounts???  I competed at 265 and didn't take large amounts, by bb standards.  fact is he failed drug test and probably passed many while on but got caught this last time.
6  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: James Toney tests positive for 'roids on: June 14, 2007, 11:29:17 AM
You can't judge drug use based on appearance.

It may sound strange to you, but the fact is most athletes that use stuff will never show a bodybuilder type physique...at least not a good one.

Most guys will maintain their weight and get stronger.  In the end it helps with recovery more than anything else, they simply do not eat enough and train enough to gain muscle and it is NOT thier objective.

Look at laundis ( bike rider, Palmero (baseball, olympic athletes, etc).

Many people 165 take more stuff then you would imagine.
7  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Mixed Martial Arts (MMA/UFC) / Re: johnny morton tests positive for steroids on: June 13, 2007, 11:28:25 PM
he got knocked out with 1 shot....get in the boxing gym and stop worrying what you look like and you may not get knocked out so fast.
8  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Phil Hernon... what did he accomplish? on: June 13, 2007, 11:07:51 PM
I believe you are confused, most of the kids DO NOT want to look like the bodybuilders in Flex and MD.  They take what they take just to look athletic.  Which is pathetic in my book.  I am 36 years old, a very young 36 as I still frequent night clubs/ lounges.  Some of the young guys in there would awe you with their intake!  They do nothing in regards to training, nothing as as far as dieting, they just use recreational drugs to obtain a "feeling or look" they like.

As a competitive bodybuilder, going to jail is not one of my goals, never was, are there risks?  Of course. Am i aware?  Yes.  Do I wish my child to become a competetive bodybuilder? NO.  Should he decide he would go that route after several enlightening conversations, I would have no alternative but to guide him as best as I can.

Do I see professionals dying to become lawyers and salesman?  They may actually be dying because they are lawyers and salesmen.  What I do see is lawyers, doctors, mortgage brokers, et al, sniffing cocaine, addicted to pain killers, taking speed then taking a valium to go to bed..... You get my drift?  Don't go there, you'd be amazed at what goes on in the "real" world.  They run as much of a risk as a pro bodybuilder.

Make sure that that child with the promissing military career or our future governor understands that corruption is illegal-can get you in jail.  Bribery is illegal, can get you thrown in jail.  Going awol is illegal and can get you thrown in jail.  Embezzlement is illegal and can get you thrown in jail.....  Ok?  Let's take a look at our jails, are there more pro bodybuilders in jail or the above mentioned lawyers, doctors, et al?  Though our jails are more filled with common criminals- thieves, drug dealers, rapists etc.  I believe there's probably more "professionals" in there than our "professional bodybuilders.

I would never want any child to divert from being something big in life!  Ever.  I pray over and over for today's youth as they are our future.  Some of those kids will want to be bodybuilders, they can be worst things in life....

Carlo

Very well written post, carlos.

I trained many top wall street exects when I was in NY and ALL of them were 1 day without their blood pressure meds from a life ending heart attack....None of them had good relationships and mosty were divorced.

great examples,  Oldman.
9  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Phil Hernon... what did he accomplish? on: June 13, 2007, 01:47:14 PM
Gtanted no intense sport is risk free, but this seems over the top.

many sports don't have a great risk to benifit ratio.

Ask the boxer that isn't ranked top ten, but won the golden gloves how the risk to (financial) benifit is after getting punched in the head thousand of times.

Ask the nascar driver that doesn't qualify for the big race, has near misses on the track every day but raceing is his "job".

BB has gotten out of hand with the drugs, no doubt.  Unfortunately advancing is life...moving ahead compared to those that came before you.

Fortunately, in BB I think we have seen the top level of muscularity a human can achieve without throwing off the other valuable qualities that come with an award winning physique.  Therefore, i do not think the abuse will continue to escalate as much.

Those that do keep forging ahead in this game will have to keep in mind the word symmetry, balance, asthetics...because without it it really is not what BB is.

These guys today look disgusting, they actually self create or induce acromegaly....crazy.
10  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Phil Hernon... what did he accomplish? on: June 13, 2007, 01:24:05 PM
If they are top BB's then their "career" is BB and they earn a living from it....a few do very well.

The lack of income from BB for just a basic pro isn't their fault, however, but the fault lies with the game of BB and the organization.

BB is a very difficult thing to do and actually do well in.  Unfortunately they don't get paid well, but it requires lots more dedication than the typical 9-5 job.  Wake up, eat a bagel and coffee, go to work, eat a fast food meal for lunch, back to work, go home, eat dinner with family, watch tv and go to sleep and do the same the next day isn't too challenging, ya know.

Also, it would surprise you how many BB's have kids and families.  I'll tell you the whole "sterile " thing with steroids is not 100% accurate.

As far as families or whatever, divorce is above 50%, people aren't even getting married until much later today so it is seen throughout all walks of life.

I'm definitly not an avocate for BB as it is today, but to compare getting a masters to winning a 1 out of 5 slot each year title is ridiculous.

I ask the guy that brought up masters, does the winner of the weightlifting, shot put, swimming, wrestling, boxing olympics every 4 years get much in the way of future opportunities?  The answer is no.  I personally know a Olympic Gold medalist in wrestling and a weight lifter (bronze) that had few.

Would you actually be ridiculous enough to compare your going to college to winning something like that?

C'mon, head over to Starbucks and hang with your other overacheivers...please.

Opportunity, my friend, nothing more provides you with a masters.
11  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Phil Hernon... what did he accomplish? on: June 13, 2007, 12:11:35 PM
Let's see..  A master's degree.  Avoiding a prison sentence.  Avoiding possibly ruining my health.

Let's get real.  As you say it is a bodybuilding forum, which is why I asked what he accomplished.  He got a pro card... and then what?Huh   Isn't that like an attorney passing the bar and then never winning a case?

Now please go ahead and compare my lack of a pro card vs the one he has.  That is about the standard response you have to fall back on.

hahaha, what a joke, you are comparing a masters degree....something many thousand and thousands, actually hundreds of thousands get every single year to something only 1 person or 5 (weight classes) gets every year, the Usa title.

You basically had the comfortable enviornment to continue going to school while other people had to work 8 hours a day, live in and pay for their own place,  pay their own bills/food etc.

I've known so many people with maters degrees...it basically is the minimum level education if you want a good job today.  My own wife almost has a doctorate and earns 50 something thousand a year as a speech path....

Degrees don't mean what they did in the 70's.

hahahaha, I'm cracking up...you compare a masters to the usa accomplishment.  just to remind you, a true acomplishment is something that is difficult to obtain....if hundreds of thousand are obtaining it every year it doesn't require much, except the opportunity.

Hope you just learned something, even though your out of school.
12  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Phil Hernon... what did he accomplish? on: June 12, 2007, 11:37:18 PM
And you have accomplished what exactly?  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I'd say acquiring pro status and being awarded 1 of 7 pro cards awarded to approximately 20,000 competetive amateur bodybuilders within a given year is quite and accomplishment.  Though this may not be viewed as much to some of you out there, as a fellow competitor who has come close a few times, I respect Phil's accomplishment.  Whether or not he took it to another level is irrelevant, whether or not he's succeeded at other endeavors is not my business, nor yours for that matter.  Btw, if your going to get caught up on how successful you are at your chosen field, save it! Really this is a bodybuilding forum.

Carlo

Great post, Carlo.

if it was you or me we'd have gotten probation.

She got a DUI, got probation like everyone else without a record would get, then broke probation 3 times, I believe (one time wasn't reported by a cop).  I'm not so sure after breaking probation 3 times a typical person would not get jail.

Are you sure about that?

15  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: How does ones stomach get this big? on: June 09, 2007, 10:59:06 PM
Forgive me if you went over it already disgusted, but what causes the thickening of the obliques? I understand what you mean by the visceral fat causing the protruding bellies. but waht about the obliques?

What causes thickening of any other skeletal muscle in the body?  that's right, training and lots of it and heavy work.  All these things along with high hormone levels and lots of good eating can make any muscle, not just the obliques larger.  many athletes have thick obliques just from the type of compound work they do...they heavy twisting exercises for trunk mobility and strength...alll these things add up.

The distention is caused by insulin and igf, generally....Gh in low amounts will not cause much in the way of enlargement of the gut and abdomin....in abuseive levels yes it can.  primaraly it is caused by lots of insulin and igf, however.

17  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Cutler + Vacuum = Repeat Champ? on: June 08, 2007, 02:50:58 PM
Jay does looks real good there, even some detail on the inside of his arms, BUT that is not a vacuum....that's justy because today people are not used to seeing a waist that goes inward....  A vacuum is when the abs completely hollow out, Check out Arnold, zane, mentzer, michalik, etc to see real vacuums.

Good for Jay none the less.
18  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Darrem Charles: "My son is the future of bodybuilding" on: June 08, 2007, 11:32:47 AM
he is impressive for beeing so young.

Kind of cruel to stick needles in your sons butt.

But he got his dads narrow back, it will be hard
to become mr olympia with a narrow back.

That physique is very easily attained without drugs and simply constant training and food...
19  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Steroids Info & Hardcore / Re: blood work after 16 week cycle on: June 07, 2007, 10:16:28 PM
The arimidex will further drop your hdl.  What were your trigycerides...if too high you ate too much carbs.  The test was too high to be healthy, I'm surprised your B/P was normal.  The hdl being low could be from an arimidex during cycle...did you use any or similar product?

Always use, throughout the year, Pantathene, lecithin, fish oils and a baby asprin...other supps as well but those are basics musts.
20  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: How does ones stomach get this big? on: June 07, 2007, 09:20:03 PM
A starving person's stomach protrudes, yet there's no food or fat.

A bodybuilder with no fat whatsoever (even facial cheeks and glutes) has a protruding stomach.

I'm just pointing out that it's not a simple matter.

That's from parasites and yes, a starving person does have fat, visceral and other wise...it's muscle they lose along with the inability to make anti bodies because of the lack of protein and nutrition.....disease and inability to fight it kills a starving person in a third world country.
21  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: How does ones stomach get this big? on: June 07, 2007, 02:39:58 AM
How in the world can anyone go on a pro stage like that?  That is just ridiculous.  You could look like Ronnie Coleman plus 20 pounds and if your abdominals and gut look like that it wouldn't matter.  No reason he should still be competing.
22  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Darrem Charles: "My son is the future of bodybuilding" on: June 07, 2007, 12:16:46 AM
dave hawk was a real good teen bb.  Also from that time was a guy named Vinny Conzo...a monster...there were so many real impressive teen bb from the 80's it was ridiculous.

Even with the drugs today teens rarely come close...why?  It's the work ethic...most train like girls...the gyms today are weak fitness clubs with machines...the mentality is get in get out within 40 min and 1 bodypart a day.  Go back to old school...train hard, train bodyparts more than 1 time a week and eat like animals.
23  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Darrem Charles: "My son is the future of bodybuilding" on: June 06, 2007, 11:59:47 PM
I would never encourage my kid to get involved with competitive bodybuilding....It leads to nowhere and in order to do well the drugs must be used at abusive levels.

Darreems kid is a good little bodybuilder but really not anything special as far as potential.

I will post two pix of me, 1 at 16 and the other at 17 and a half...I was a ripped 169 for the NPC NY state show (pix 1 two weeks out) and 220 something, not lean a year and a half later with 2-4 hours a day training, eating at least 8 meals a day (a meal would be a pound of pasta with beef, or a dozen eggs with potatoes, or a can of tuna with a few potatos).  I was in the gym in the morning and evening every single day of my life then.  Muscle can be built naturally at that age very easily...the test levels are high enough, BUT how many teens have real discipline?  Darreems kid has a car, food....nah, it won't happen for him because it's too easy.  I worked for my food, had no car and took buses to the gym or walked until about 20 years old or so..... You don't see many champions coming out of rich homes or taken care of when young, i think....take away the car, make him work for food and then you will make a champion, I believe.
24  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Mixed Martial Arts (MMA/UFC) / Re: Why are American MMA fans so DISRESPECTFUL?????? on: June 06, 2007, 01:58:54 AM
Most new mma fans are not involved and have never been involved in mma to any significant degree.

The unfortuante thing about that to me is they don't truely appreciate the work that goes into getting positions and submissions and therefore think it's boring.

Lots of recent mma fights have had tremendous booing from the fans.  The ufc on spike had a couple matches that were almost booed out of the stadium...so much so that Dana scratched them from the broadcast and few hours later.  Even with that a couple other fights were also booed but they had to show them.  The ones that got scratched were also advertised matches as well.

Announcers should put over the action in the ring, smarten up fans instead of agreeing with them.  You do not get new fans, especvially naive ones, if you agree with booing ground work, and standingf them up takes away the mma element.
25  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Mixed Martial Arts (MMA/UFC) / Re: Mike tyson getting KTFO'd on: June 03, 2007, 01:49:00 AM
last night Brock Lesnar completely beat the heck out of a guy that hasd been in MMa for years.

fact is he just decided upon this little adventure within the past 6 months or so...before that he was in Japn pro wrestling.

No one, not Brock not anyonme can put on a pair of boxing gloves and beat a well known guy...it just isn't happening.....

Brock couldn't win a club fight in any major city PAL in the country, let alon beat a guy that is known.

THAT says everything about mma.  It's a great sport but does NOT require one quarter the devotion boxing does to excell.  Of course lots of guys devote everything to it, but in general boxing simply is a MUCH tougher sport....

If you doubt me, come up with an answer for Brock, Bart Gun (who knocked out well known cabbage with a weeks notice), Phil baroni who was fighting on the ufc card after not even a year of training...

With respect NONE of the guys I mentioned would win the amateur gloves...simple as that, no disrespect just fact.
