Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: What was the GB thread that made you stay?

I started on the board and got hooked back when Shawn Ray was posting, some of the standout threads have been: 240 vs Kamali (back when he was 240 or bust) Harry vs Bethany Howlett (shoot, anything with Bethany) BEEFYHEAVYWEIGHT (probably BS, but fascinating to read) Onlyme vs Vince And, of course, pretty much any thread started by blinky.

When I first got out of college, I interviewed a design firm I really wanted to work for, but was told I didn't have the experience needed. I called them up the next week and offered to intern for free, just to gain the experience. They loved that I wanted to learn, and offered me a full-time spot five months later. My boss later told me asking for an internship and being willing to work for free (they paid me) was the smartest thing any candidate had ever done.

Didn't Cutler train with Klaus for awhile?
. If by train with you mean crawled with his face in the dirt averting eye contact, while begging tidbits of wisdom from Klaus Dohring, then yes, Cutler trained with Him.

That was part of what I liked about this interview; seems like Bret is realizing all the good in his life, and focusing on those positives, instead of the bitter times of the last 15 years. I'd still rather watch one of his matches than anyone else in the business (Savage being a close second). Best ever, baby!

IF they turn him, and I'm still not convinced they're going that way, I'd like to see his character be almost EXACTLY the same on the mic, with the dirty play increasing in the ring. It's the smiling at everyone who hates him and acknowledging it at the shows that's getting him heat from me, not sure if it's intentional or not. Let him keep being shiny happy Cena, but taking things over the line in the ring, especially with some likable mid-carders, and draw some heat. Cena should be watching a lot of Hogan tapes circa '96, because he's now that guy, ready to turn hard. I hope he does it well if it happens, because even though I'm not a fan of his ring work, he seems like a genuinely good guy, and I'd like to see him continue to succeed.

As an adult, Animal is clearly the one making things work, spending the most time in the ring, selling, etc. As a kid, though, Hawk just came off meaner and cooler.
I remember a match where they were in the ring with Mr. Perfect (might have been a Survivor Series) when Curt hit a move on Hawk, turned around to celebrate, and Hawk no-sold, stood about a foot behind him, and when Curt turned, stuck out his tongue and hissed at him. Curt jumped backwards about three feet, and sold it like Satan had just looked up his skirt. I looked at Hawk and thought, "That's the coolest, baddest man I've ever seen!"

My wife complains all the time about my fandom for wrestling, I just say, "Honey, I'm like a swimming pool; I have a deep end, and a shallow end."
LOVE the idea of Miz in an NWO-style faction, BTW.

Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Owen vs Bret

Owen was smaller & lighter than Bret, and could therefor do some of the acrobatic stuff that Bret couldn't.
Both were good ring workers, but with different styles. Owen worked a faster pace, but I think Bret got more out of his matches by creating an emotional hook for the fans.
IMO, Own beat Bret in the aerial and gymnastics departments, but I'd give "storytelling" points to Bret.
I have to agree. Owen's ringwork was flashier, but Bret was more of a total package, with stronger storytelling and ring psychology. Also, and this always killed me with Owen (RIP): he'd have a 4-5 star match, come out of the ring, and totally botch the post-match interview. That was the thing, lack of mic skills, that I thought always put Bret over Owen, and Bret was no master of the stick.
