26  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Hugh "Wolverine" Jackman broke Dolph Ziggler's jaw on RAW!! on: September 22, 2011, 12:56:07 PM
Rumor is it was a work by Ziggler; still, it was a great shot, and word is the boys in the locker room loved Jackman, who was a legit mark for some of the guys, including Steve Lombardi a.k.a. the Brooklyn Brawler.
27  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Hawk or Animal? on: September 21, 2011, 11:09:20 AM
As an adult, Animal is clearly the one making things work, spending the most time in the ring, selling, etc.  As a kid, though, Hawk just came off meaner and cooler.

I remember a match where they were in the ring with Mr. Perfect (might have been a Survivor Series) when Curt hit a move on Hawk, turned around to celebrate, and Hawk no-sold, stood about a foot behind him, and when Curt turned, stuck out his tongue and hissed at him.  Curt jumped backwards about three feet, and sold it like Satan had just looked up his skirt.  I looked at Hawk and thought, "That's the coolest, baddest man I've ever seen!"

My wife complains all the time about my fandom for wrestling, I just say, "Honey, I'm like a swimming pool; I have a deep end, and a shallow end."

LOVE the idea of Miz in an NWO-style faction, BTW.

Jake Roberts.
30  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Owen vs Bret on: July 22, 2011, 09:30:15 AM
Owen was smaller & lighter than Bret, and could therefor do some of the acrobatic stuff that Bret couldn't.

Both were good ring workers, but with different styles.
Owen worked a faster pace, but I think Bret got more out of his matches by creating an emotional hook for the fans.

IMO, Own beat Bret in the aerial and gymnastics departments, but I'd give "storytelling" points to Bret.

I have to agree.  Owen's ringwork was flashier, but Bret was more of a total package, with stronger storytelling and ring psychology.  Also, and this always killed me with Owen (RIP):  he'd have a 4-5 star match, come out of the ring, and totally botch the post-match interview.  That was the thing, lack of mic skills, that I thought always put Bret over Owen, and Bret was no master of the stick.

I would love to see them leave the belt on Punk for a while, and build some heat for Cena/Rock.  Have Rock sayin', "WTF?  If you're not champ, you're not worth my time!"  My 2 cents.
32  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Appreciation thread for Flex Wheeler on: July 18, 2011, 02:36:50 PM
I guess tattoos are not in anymore...

Wait... have you seen what many bodybuilders have now... whoa.... tattoos....

Like it or not, Flex Wheeler at his topmost physique was of of the best bodybuilders in the world.

The problem of lot of fans have with Flex is not his career physique, but the abuse he's put his body through after retiring, especially with a borrowed kidney.  Not cool.  Looked great in the day, though.

And tats are fine, but crap tats like that are embarrassing.  Look like my 6 year old drew them on him.
33  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Worst Gimmicks on: July 16, 2011, 02:04:48 PM
Yeah, Shockmaster is way up there on my list, along with Repo Man and Saba Simba.

My least favorite of all time, though, has to be Dusty Rhodes in the black and yellow polka dots with Sapphire.  I'm surprised he didn't just light VKM on fire when he found out that was going to be his gimmick.

What a great work!  Hope it's the start of something fantastic!
35  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Hellwig to "expose" Hogan (2011): on: June 23, 2011, 12:19:44 PM
Could you imagine a book by the Ulitmate Warrior?  250 pages of incomprehensive babble just like his

It'd be a train wreck, but I'd totally buy it and wade through it cover to cover.  Warrior's rants are like a car accident; you can't help but look.

Explains a lot

37  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Hellwig to "expose" Hogan (2011): on: June 07, 2011, 04:10:42 PM
His comments were something to the effect that, "queering doesn't make the world work." Yeah, he was getting pretty regular invites before that to campuses, but it all seemed to stop cold after that little incident.
What I never understand is his opinion of himself in the business seems pretty high, yet I have never gotten the impression that he had any love for the business.  In his shoot interview, it sounded like it was all business, no exultation in reaching the pinnacle apart from the paycheck.  What a sad way to spend one's life.  Although I will say I respected his comments about Randy Savage last week- those were pretty classy.

You just know there's a gimp chained up just out of camera range in that shot.  Grin

Scary, but not good scary.
40  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Hellwig to "expose" Hogan (2011): on: June 02, 2011, 04:54:19 PM
Yeah, that wasn't a piledriver, or a powerbomb.  Look, I like Warrior, if only for nostalgia's sake, but he sold nothing, and didn't take bumps often, if at all.  I enjoy Warrior's site and rants, but that guy is the biggest mark for himself I've ever seen.  Worse than HTM.
41  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Hellwig to "expose" Hogan (2011): on: June 01, 2011, 10:18:09 AM
I would have loved to have seen Nash power bomb Warrior through a table.  Grin

Would never happen- ever seen the warrior take a bump bigger than a clothesline?
42  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Strongest Pro wrestler of all time ? on: May 26, 2011, 04:26:53 PM
Maybe Animal?
43  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: R.I.P. Randy Savage (threads merged): on: May 26, 2011, 04:26:18 PM
I think he was the inspiration for Matthew Mcaughney (sp) character in Dazed and Confused, too.  haha

44  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Who was the best built westler of all-time ? on: May 26, 2011, 04:23:17 PM
Warrior has got to be in the top 2-3, Lugar was pretty jacked.  Rick Rude, that's who I wanted to look like, even though he had no legs.
45  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Randy Poffo aka Randy Macho Man Savage died in car crash! on: May 20, 2011, 12:30:27 PM
Always seemed like a guy who knew what was what, and one of my top 2-3 favorites of all time.  Something I appreciated about Randy was, the smarter I got as a fan, the better his matches became.  Condolences to his family, we lost a member of wrestling royalty today. RIP.
46  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: CM Punk and his future on: May 05, 2011, 10:53:43 AM

Punk, DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!

What he said.
47  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Conversations in 20 yrs on: April 27, 2011, 04:02:08 PM
I think part of Cena's appeal is his activities outside the ring- guy does a ton of charity work.  Whenever anyone badmouths the business or talks about how destructive it is, Cena comes off as clean, a lot like Sting in that respect.  I'm not a fan of the Cena character, but he's the biggest face at the moment when true faces and heels are rare.

And I doubt Cena will ever get into the same universe as Hogan as far as lasting popularity.  I'm not sure who'd I'd compare him to from yesteryear.  Any ideas?
48  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Halarious Boddy Heenan commentates while Scott Steiner intimidates fans. on: April 26, 2011, 09:55:14 AM
I heard a story years ago about when Scotty first got going in the business.  There was an angle where he was supposed to go to ringside for a taping with a black eye, having been jumped outside the ring.  The crew had makeup ready to go, but Scotty told Rick to hit him instead.  Rick hammered him, and he earned a legit tough guy rep immediately.  Also, I remember stories that if a wrestler botched a Steiner spot, notably the Frankensteiner, Scott and Rick would legit work him for a few minutes with potatoes to punish him for it.  Fun guy to watch, to I'd give him a VERY wide berth.

Funniest thing I've seen this week- pure gold!
50  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Jim Ross News: on: April 09, 2011, 10:50:31 PM
From Jim Ross's Twitter:

"@meesh282 There are no plans at this time for me to go back to weekly announcing. Things could always change."

It must be frustrating for Vince, grooming play-by-play guys for years, and yet JR continues to make the save.  Of course, I don't think anyone will ever beat Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse Ventura, IMO.
