Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Shawn Ray talking smack about dorian.

Shawn was always trashing the champ. Before Dorian, it was Haney. Flex would run articles by Ray going on and on about how it was his time, and he was the new uncrowned champ. Then he'd come in 4th. I know it's self promotion, but it always felt like Shawn was having a self-affirmation- "I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and gosh darnit, people like me!"

I really hope that they let Cena loose on the mic next week and not make him come out and do some neutered kitty promo.
I remember some of Cena's old heel promos, and all I can say is, he and Dwayne better script whatever they say carefully, because what the Rock would do to him on a live riff would be hard to recover from. It'd be like Ric Flair cutting his promo on the Warrior.

Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Shawn or Bret?

First off, Bret is my all-time favorite wrestler, so I'm totally biased. The thing that stood out to me in the Bret vs Shawn question is selling. Bret made everyone he wrestled look good. He sold like he was legit hurt, it was never cartoony. Some of my favorite Bret matches are ones he lost, because he built the other guy, while still managing to make himself look like gold.
Shawn pulled fantastic moves and was dang entertaining to watch, but I never felt like he sold another guy throughout the match. Just my 2 cents.

I picked it up- nothing groundbreaking, and little to no interview footage with Bobby in the body of the documentary, which was sad. There were a bunch of clips of him in the extras, telling short stories or in bits from Prime Time, but FAR too little, especially in the promos he cut as a manager. Most of it was him commentating rather than managing.
The one exception, which was worth the cost of the disc IMO, was Heenan's Hall of Fame induction. So funny, so heart-felt, and the first time a wrestling dvd made me cry when he finished his speech with a tribute to Monsoon.

I was stunned when I first learned how little many wrestlers made in the day, even in the WWF(E). Just goes to show rich and famous can be mutually exclusive. I remember the band Red Flag saying that after their first album was a hit, their new label bosses were going on and on about how famous they were going to be. Their response was, "We'd rather be rich."

Remember his match with the Undertaker at WM9? Everytime he tok a right hand from the Undertaker he looked like a drunk who had 24 beers proir to stepping in the ring.
I totally remember that- one of the first times I ever felt sorry for a wrestler, though Dusty in polka dots with Sapphire is up there, too.

Lol...his exact words were "Warrior was the biggest dickwad I ever worked with." Funny how no one has anything positive to say about Hellwig. Shows you what a dickhead he really is.
Anyone seen the shoot interview the Warrior did a few years ago? It's a great interview, but what came through most was that it was just a job; no passion for the business at all. I get the feeling it was all about the paycheck, and a belt was just an extra zero on the end of said paycheck. Sad, really.

Lol...actually Honky is very big and very well respected on the Indy scene. Especially for fullfilling commitments....unlike the idiot Warrior who won't sign an autograph for a kid unless he gets 3.6 mill.
I met HTM at Comic Con last year with my kids, and he couldn't have been nicer to us. He was just in the aisle as we were looking at a booth, and I almost ran into him when I turned around. I told him how much my kids, who had only just started to watch wrestling, loved his matches from his feud with Savage when HTM was IC champ, and he was almost shy about thanking us. Definitely elevated him in my eyes.

I always loved Keith's posts- I always felt kind of bad for how flamed he'd get on the G&O board; still, he kept coming back for more, so he must not have minded. Does anyone have any of his stories involving wrestling they could share?

Maybe in 2016, we'll find out Vince has just finished paying out on the $20 million lifetime contract we all heard about. I tend to think it's a shoot, only because I can't imagine running an angle for 14 years when most feuds today last 6 weeks or less.
On the other hand, it did turn VKM into the biggest heel in the industry, and you know he loves being on TV.

Oversell: Shawn Michaels vs. Hulk Hogan. When it was decided Hogan wasn't going to put Shawn over, Shawn flopped like a fish every time Hulk touched him.
Gotta agree with Andy on the Saba Simba no-sell by Piper. Vince's response? "Maybe he's trying to get in touch with his roots." Classic.

OK, I know this is useless without a link, but I remember a match with the Steiners in the early 90's in Japan, where they legit KO'd one of the guys on the other team, who was out on his feet, and totally disoriented. You could see Scotty and Rick looking at each other like, "What now?" So they just kept picking the guy up and destroying him. I don't know why his partner didn't sub in, but it was one of the wildest things I ever saw. Does anyone know which match I'm talking about?
