The feuds, yes. Their build-ups lasted for months - some of them even close to year. But, once they had their big match...POOF!! It was all over. There was never any "part 2."
Think Piper, Bundy, Killer Kahn, One Man Gang, and the guys you mentioned above; with the exception of Andre, Hogan seldom worked another program with any of them. That's why the Hogan character wore out. After he did his paradigmatic mow-down, they had to bring in someone new to feed him, or at least build up someone to pose a threat.
The act got tired, fans saw through it, and that's why Hogan tanked in WCW until they re-invented his character.

Part of the reason it go tired was Hogan's ever-shrinking physique at the time. You can't pull off the superhero gig with Hogan looking like (relatively speaking) a crackhead.

Yeah I remember hearing about that but they really made Warrior and Bulldog the scape goats for that. The whole locker room back then was juicing, I dont see why they only fired those two.

And how did Crush escape scrutiny, given how he swole up during his happy-go-lucky Hawaiian (post-Demolition) gimmick?
28  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Warrior and Attitude Era on: April 11, 2014, 09:55:20 AM
Good point, Warrior was a figure of ridicule and disliked by many within the wrestling industry and by fans for years. Then he is inducted to HoF and dies and everybody is a Warrior mark all of a sudden.  Roll Eyes

How much validity do you put in the criticisms of Helwig from the "Self-Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior" video?

More importantly will WWE be able to sign/develop any new legends/icons of the undertaker/hbk/hhh ? I truly believe we have seen the end of an era.

And that's all the more reason I'm upset over the fact that 'Taker jobbed to Lesnar (or to anyone).

Heck, I could have even stomached his losing, during his biker gimmick. I figured that, if he didn't get beat then, he'd never lose.

Why didn't he just go out WM 27 style and let Lesnar destroy him but pull off a cheap pin, to keep the streak intact?

Save us Monty...316!!!

That frosts me even more (not Monty, of course). Austin gets way over at 'Mania, despite getting beat half to death and left in a pool of his own blood. Yet, 'Taker doesn't put Lesnar over without killing the streak....just painful.
31  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Taker vs. Lesnar (threads merged): on: April 11, 2014, 09:08:00 AM
Oh God......The Shockmaster.....and that ridiculous helmet.

It wasn't that bad. There's only so much you can do with Tugboat.
32  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: RIP Vince Comerford on: April 11, 2014, 08:39:04 AM
If I recall correctly, didn't he miss the WBF Contest "due to a grave illness" as announced by Mean Gene Okerland? Could this be the same illness responsible for taking his life today?

Sad.

STAY POSITIVE!!!!!

It was pneumonia, according to Gene Okerlund during the '92 championship.
33  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Warrior and Attitude Era on: April 11, 2014, 06:02:40 AM

Oh, absolutely. And, those were two points I was making above: Every wrestler in the Fed at that time changed his/her character with the dawn of the attitude era. Hellwig never evolved at all during his career, which is why I doubt he'd have made it in the AE. He had everything else - the muscle, the hair, the music, the energy, and most of all, the PUSH. Management was willing to push him, they WANTED to push him, and they DID push him. When you've got all that going for you still can't run, well...

Hellwig had other facets working against him, too. His ego greatly impaired his business acumen, and his stubbornness and unprofessional/poor attitude also cut short what could (and should) have been a stellar ring career.

But, many of the stars of the Attitude era were just amped- up versions of their normal selves. The " new generation version of Warrior was basically that, too. But, it made him more cartoonish than he was in the late 80s/early 90s.

Plus, with the corny gimmicks that Austin, Rock, and Helmsley had, there wasn't anywhere to go but up.
34  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Wyatt's over big time on: April 10, 2014, 09:10:14 PM

The character was a transvestite whose biggest moment was in a "backlot brawl" with Roddy Piper back around '96. Dustin is incredibly pompous, arrogant, and pretentious for someone who was never more than a mid-carder.

Wasn't that match cobbled together, because of Razor's suspension preventing what was to be a rematch for the IC title? Plus, the "Bad Guy" wasn't exactly cool with Goldust feeling him up during the matches.
35  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Damn RIP Ultimate Warrior... on: April 10, 2014, 08:49:59 PM
Supossedly andre the giant was very rigid and not doing well by the late 80's early 90's ,stuck to same formula cause he couldn't move,U.W. and ANDRE had match and warrior was going crazy closethlining him and andre got pissed for real and through him around off script..

Bobby Heenan tells an Andre-Warrior story on the "Self-Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior DVD". It's a hoot.

I remember he had a match with Andre, and it almost ended his career. Andre used to like to take a clothesline. And he told him in the dressing room; he told him, "I'm going to swing with the clothesline; you duck. And, I'm going to hit the ropes and take two steps off. And then, hit me with the clothesline and I'm going to tie myself into the ropes!" And, Andre liked to do that spot.

So, Andre missed him with the clothesline. As soon as Andre turned around, he was there, 150 miles an hour......BANG!!!!
(Heenan emulates Warrior hitting Andre with a hard clothesline, before Andre was ready) And, I heard Boss go "MMMMMMMMMM!!!!" Something's going to happen here. Next night, same thing happens, 200 miles per hour....BANG!!!!! (Warrior hits Andre too hard with a clothesline again, before Andre is ready)......"MMMMMMMMM!!!"

Third night, 338 miles per hour.....And just as he gets there, Andre goes.....
(Heenan sticks out his arm with his fist clenched, emulating Andre's doing the same in the ring against Warrior) and hits the Warrior right between the eyes and cracked his paint. We're talking Earl Scheib job, here. His knees buckled; he grabbed onto the ropes (Heenan imitates a dizzy Ultimate Warrior, fumbling to get to ropes)...didn't really know where he was.

Next night, here comes the Warrior: (Heenan uses his fingers to describe Warrior cautiously running toward Andre and hitting him with a somewhat soft clothesline) Dink-da-dink-da-dink......BINK!!!! Andre looks at me and says, "He'll learn!!!" Andre just put his hand up and stopped him. He would stand on his hair; he would do all sorts of things to him. Andre just didn't like the guy, either.

36  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Warrior and Attitude Era on: April 10, 2014, 08:31:36 PM
And speaking of "Attitude"

I'm watching "Self-Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior" again. On the part where they're talking about Warrior getting canned in '96 for not showing up for live events, they have a poster for the "WWF Attitude Adjustment Tour". The banner has an event at the Cow Palace in (I believe) Anaheim, CA on July 25 of that year.

And, I kid you not, the top-billed match is a "Federation Title Match" with Warrior as champion against Vader. The undercard is 'Taker vs. Mankind, Sid vs. Bulldog, and an IC match with Ahmed Johnson defending against Goldust.

Did I miss something here?
37  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Warrior and Attitude Era on: April 10, 2014, 08:27:46 PM
Hypothetical......

Warior never parted ways with Vince and was around for the Attitude era. Would he have faired well against Austin, Rock, Angle Jericho etc???

Board seems slow this week so putting something new out there..

There may not have been an Attitude era, had Warrior stayed. The loss of Bret Hart wouldn't have stung as much and McMahon would have simply pushed the "New Generation" era further. He'd already revamped Warrior to fit into that mold.
38  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Wyatt's over big time on: April 10, 2014, 11:00:38 AM
The problem with Fandango is that it wasn't his wrestling ability, charisma, or mic skills that made him over....it was his music. That fizzled quick and now no one gives a shit about him and his stupid gimmick.

Wyatt has the charisma, ability, and right look to take the #1 spot and win the big belt in 2014.

But, as Helmsley also stated, Fandango is a solid wrestler. His match with Jericho was one of the better bouts of WrestleMania last year (and he actually won). I called Fandango a new-generation throwback.

Wyatt has more staying power because he's creepy and he's a bruiser. He won't ge lost in the shuffle as Fandango did.
39  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Wyatt's over big time on: April 10, 2014, 10:28:57 AM
This tends to happen, as of late, post-WrestleMania on Raw.

As Triple H said, this time last year, Fandango was so over with the crowd that people were chanting his music during other people's matches.

Methinks Bray Wyatt has more staying power; but time will tell.
40  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: WWE Network doing a 2hr special - tribute to the ultimate warrior on: April 09, 2014, 08:43:30 PM
I'm still watching "Self-Destruction.....", finishing the part about how nonsensical his promos were. Now comes the part about his feud with Ravishing Rick Rude, basically claiming that Rude had to carry him through most of the matches (particularly the IC title match at WM 5).
41  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: What is the worst tasting supplement you've had? on: April 09, 2014, 08:37:44 PM
Hot Stuff and Weider's Dynamic Muscle Builder.

Those were actually decent. I remember when I first got a sample of Hot Stuff, after it first hit the market in '88 or '89.

43  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Taker vs. Lesnar (threads merged): on: April 09, 2014, 07:30:27 PM
Ok, basically the Streak had to end.  Why?  Because if you retired UT while undefeated, then you retired a WM gimmick/attraction that had more drawing power than most of it's main events at times.  So there has to be someone to carry on the tradition in some form or another.  Brock could be billed as the Baddest Man On The Planet now and everyone jockeys for a shot each year to knock him off the hill.

But it had to be Brock that gained this spot.  There was no one else they could give it to.  Punk?  Not with his unreliability of walking out and his independent streak over what is right/wrong for his fellow workers.  Michaels, HHH, etc... they couldn't have done it because they were already at the end of their careers and nagged by injuries.  You couldn't give it to John Cena because how can you believe he is such a bad ass when he gets beat by Bray Watt or whoever on public tv a week or so before the PPVs?    Brock has limited appearances and this only builds into his brand and merchandising point.  Wrestle once or twice a year and only the top challenger that is getting the current push at the time.

But, who's going to carry on the tradition? No major star has an undefeated record at 'Mania. That honor was Undertaker's and his alone; now, it's gone.

I'd like to see it. Right now (since it's the only video I have of him), I'm watching the "Self-Destruction..." video.
46  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: WWE flip-flopping BIG TIME: Ultimate Warrior-The Ultimate Collection is on DVD on: April 09, 2014, 07:06:36 PM
so sad.

loved seeing him at mania this past weekend.

I can remember going to a live event in 1990, at Hamilton's Copps Colesium.

the main even was Warrior and Texas Tornado vs. Mr. Perfect and Ravishing Rick Rude.

all members of this match are now gone.. Cry

I saw him LIVE at the 1990 Royal Rumble. And when he and Hogan were the only two in the ring, it was NUTS!!!
47  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: What is the worst tasting supplement you've had? on: April 09, 2014, 12:01:51 PM
Pure micronized arginine powder in water...

Took my damn breath away and legitimately almost yak'd...This coming from a guy who has buried his face in morning pussy thousands of times with pleasure. Anyone who has been up close and personal with a freshly awoken pussy/ass knows what I'm talking about.

Another honorable mention. Neve use plain arginine (I made that mistake with GNC's version, because it was on clearance). Fortunately, they had fruit-punch-flavored arginine marked down in price the next week.
48  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Did Paul Bearer's death save the Undertaker's WrestleMania streak? on: April 09, 2014, 11:55:47 AM
Your the instigater and one disagreeing. People can't even post without you causing chaos with you information misinformation misinterpretation and your snooty replies. You don't need to spar with people ffs. Get off your self righteous high horse. Now go have a tequila.

It's not sparring. Again, it's a discussion and in such, people don't always agree. Apparently, it's tissue time for you if their statements disagree with yours.
49  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: wrestlemania just started with a bang.. on: April 09, 2014, 07:28:29 AM
Easy...its called poor booking and shit product.

Poor booking, indeed! In 4 Manias, Bryan went from pre-show match for the US title with Sheamus (which he lost) to a curtain-jerker World title match against Sheamus (which is supposed to be a 'main-event' match, since Sheamus won the Rumble and which he lost).

I kid you not. I went to pour my son some apple juice and, as I put the lid on his sippy cup, I hear Sheamus' music playing. I get back to the living room and Sheamus has the belt in his hands.

Last year, he has as meaningless tag team title defense with Kane. And now, he main-events WrestleMania and wins both WWE and World title belts.
50  Getbig Misc Discussion Boards / Wrestling Board / Re: Wrestlemania Predictions?? on: April 09, 2014, 06:54:46 AM
I considered the network but decided it just wasn't worth it in the end. Im not confident that Vince will show classic NWA footage or GCW stuff. Mind you, ive seen it all so why bother? For PPV,s I'll just go to a local bar.

If you still have a VCR, you could record the PPVs you like for your collection and save a bundle on the coast of video.
