Also depends on what you mean by "supplement".
Yeah....vitamin C is vitamin C.
When I think of "supplements" i think of the bullshit BBing supplements that claim to build muscle but don't do jack shit. Aside from creatine, which basically just makes you hold water in your muscles, they are all ineffective.
Im not much into BBing supplements other than protien powder.. even at that I buy it in the form of powdered egg whites, so really its just food. I came at the bodybuilding community with this because you also stand to lose your choices in the matter. Some of you care, some of you dont. This will kill the entire supplement industry as we know it. My main concern is the vitamins, herbal supplements, raw extracts, oils, etc. The things people take for granted. Natural products that FDA wants to control so that big pharma can patent and make $. Believe it or not, these substances are preventative to many types of cancers and cure many illnesses, not to mention greatly improving the quality of life.

I use to work part time at the Vitamin Shopped for a couple of years and I was surprised at how strict they were. What you said and the claims you made. And also how we were always pulling shit off the shelves because of some complaint, scandal or whatever. Even if it wasn't required, like the Hydroxycut incident. But if there was the slightest doubt off the shelves it went and I was playing Mr. Stockboy again. I hated it and didn't realize that the nutritional industry was on such pins and needles. But I think this probably applies to the big name stores like Vitamin Shopped, GNC, Vitamin World.... The hole in the wall places don't give a crap and get away with more because they are not watched as closely. And this applies to the brand names to the products you buy. Long term established big brand names, Puritan Pride, Natures Way, Source Naturals, any GMP certified brands. It's just not worth it to them to save a few shekels and risks ruining your reputation. Too much is at stake and too much work went into developing your reputation. You buy the cheap off name brands you're more likely get into trouble.
But this applies to everything you buy anywhere. Buy no name cheap stuff versus solid established brands -- it's your choice. Maybe I just want some everyday cheap athletic shoes that I'll use to kick around with and save the more expensive brand for when I'm doing some serious training. I don't need the government to tell me what's good for me. If I make a bad choice then it's live and learn. It's part of being an adult and taking responsibility for your choices you make in life. I already have a mommy and daddy. I don't need a nanny government always sticking their nose in my business.
I always buy NOW and Source Naturals for years. Love the quality, cant go wrong with either one. What it says on the label, IS what is in the product, and it always works for what I intended. I would be terribly sad to see these companies disappear.

so what , do you think anyone is going to ban vitamins. that is not the issue here. And by the way note what i told u , carpal tunnel in both arms at the same time is very hard to imagine. just like developing cancer in both lungs simultaneously due to smoking
was the SYPTOMS of carpal tunnel caused by the B deficiency. and YES! banning vitamins IS what this is about. the supp company and big pharm being in CONTROL of natural substances, so they can patent them and make $$$,, again, more govt CONTROL! bc u wont be able to get w/o a presciption. hello!!!! do some of you even bother to read the RX thread or listen to Carls show? I provided the links to both.

There was a guy I knew in LA that had his tongue spilt to look like a lizard and had spikes punched in his skull. Not really my thing and I'm sure you can get hurt getting that procedure but it was his choice and other than having to look at him, it doesn't effect me and is none of my, or anybody elses, business.
i keep AGREEING with you, but for some reason you dont think I am!!! lol ..anyway,

that is an often repeated but obvious fallacy. No man is an island. Why does the law say u need to wear a seat belt? Well it is not because of the possibility your thick head may kill someone. First why are there laws at all, I mean u could just say why am I subject to other men laws. Well it has been found that for their own protection most people demand their communities to be ruled by laws from which other people cannot opt out. So if you believe in the rule of law u are already abdicating some of ur freedom. Assuming u believe in laws then u can say, but why should I obey those laws that concern only me. Well because there is no real “only me”. Many people (who make the laws) believe that what you do with your life concerns them because life is sacred (god etc) or they owe u a duty of care. If u say fuck that, then think that when u die or get ill there are consequences to many other people. You take a shit drug and get chronically ill. In the end someone will end up paying ur bills. So what about their rights. U say fuck that- well then u don’t give a shit about other people so why would they care about ur opinion
end of lesson
i think we can all agree that there should be 'basic' laws. thats not what this arguement is about

As far as I understand it it will make it much more costly for the supplement industry to stay in business. America has survived without another law. Why is this one so necessary? Why is the supplement industry against it?
TA never answers any questions. only makes blanket statements. Anyway, you all fight amongst yourselves for a while. Im gonna go get my LEG workout on! whew!!

But we already have that. Nutritional companies are constantly being sued for outlandish claims. And it hasn't stopped it from other industries. What about that claim that if you eat 3 bowls of oatmeal you will lower your cholesteral? I read where blue berries is suppose to make you smarter. I remember I got taken for 5 bucks as a kid when I order a course that would teach me the secrets of Dim Mak where I could kill a man with a single strike.
You live and learn, brah. Unless you're a retard (no offense Palin) you're not going to go through your whole life being a sucker. We all have to grow up. I don't need or want the government's nose in every part of my life "looking out" for me.
yep. and not everyone looks good in hotpants, even if the clothing industry tries to convince you of such. ppl *could* get hurt, or even killed! if a fat person wears them. traffic accidents, broken cameras, BLINDNESS, etc.

Point is, whether you think vitamins and supplements are worth a damn or not let people decide for themselves. Aren't people getting sick of this nanny government telling you what they think is good for you or not?
It's one thing to imploy moral persuasion to do things that are good for you (like exercise/good diet) or to avoid things that are bad for you (smoking/riding without a helmet) but it's quite another to pass laws, using the power of government, to force you to do what they deem is best for you.
Leave us alone already.
exactly.

Try reading the entire bill. There is nothing bad about it at all. How about this, show me what part of the bill, from the text of the bill, that specifically bothers you and why.
You will come to see your worrying is all for naught and that you have been misguided this whole time.
Also, to repeat what the others have said, Snake Oil doesn`t work.
you didnt answer my question. but anyway.. vitamins dont work? hmm, i guess protien powder doent work either then? you guys dont get it. you think im talking about bodybuilding supplements, but I am not. Im talking about BBing supps, and the vitamin & supplement industry as a whole. I tend to agree about most BBing supps being worthless..so I dont waste my money on em! BUT, there needs to be a choice. Each individual should decide what works for them. heres an example,.. I recently overcame a very painful & debilitating carpal tunnel injury. both hands, wrists, and forearms. come to find out, it was vit B6 deficiancy related. nerve damage from B6 deficiancy, and carpal tunnel symptoms as a result. who knew they were ready to operate. I was facing months of recovery time, missing gym, disability, etc, already not having the use of my hands, the ability to work, grip the steering wheel, write, brush my teeth, etc. i couldnt even ******! for weeks, i was a mess. I added a B supp to my regimen and now within a couple weeks I'm as good as new. it brought instant relief. 20 min after i took it I felt the ice leave my nerves, & from then on I got progressively better. I was in alot of pain. so dont tell ME what works. Do you think my doctor said one word about possible vitamin deficiency? no. the only answer was surgery and pain medication, and a brace. thats just 'tough shit' for me, right? ..so i guess the 'taxpayers' ought to pay for my disability, rather than me having the ability to take my health and well being into my own hands??? what works and what doesnt is certainly up for debate, and there are many variables.., but you saying they dont work only means it didnt work for YOU. so, why dont you simply avoid them. I respectfully disagree, however, and would like the choice to use my 'snake oils' like vit B, colloidal silver, etc if I so desire, without having to get a prescription for it. you DO understand what big pharma is trying to do, no?

Your too fucking cute to take seriously. Honestly, let congress do what they want. They are a bunch of hacks who can't run anything.
If they regulate it, then maybe I can finally use my flexible spending account to buy supps and save some cash.
thank you on the cute part. i keep trying u speak in riddles, first you say let them do what they want, and in the same breath u say, 'They are a bunch of hacks who can't run anything.' & then i dont follow you on the last part. there are limits to what my mind can comprehend

Stop with the conspiracy theories already.
first, let me ask you. where do you live? are you even living in the US? second.. its not about conspiracy theories. its about things that are coming into play & if we dont nip them in the bud, it could get ugly for us all. third, Im tired of hearing everyone bitch and complain, day in and day out, the govt does this, the govt does that..they are killing us, etc etc. with a total defeatist & victim mentality. ~if you dont like something, get up off your fcking ass and do something about it! & quite frankly, im sick and tired of all these conspiracy theories with no real action to back them up! all this talk and other nonsense, but what is anyone really DOING?

The supplement industry is full of a bunch of low life crooks.. ripping people off with bullshit products that don’t work… or often times do not contain what the label claims. This is one industry that could use a little *regulation*.
Listen up - you do not need supplements, just eat a well balanced diet and save your cash.
read the thread, digest the points I have made there. & listen to the fucking show before you speak. YOU listen up JAMES. vitamins & naturopathic medicine/ supplements saved my life, more than once. along with many others. I take them in addition to a balanced diet...and if you arent careful the balanced diet will be gone as well. ~If you dont believe me, google MONSANTO. if you are in favor of govt regulation and putting that in the hands of big pharma u then i have no words for you. changed my status update, copy and paste in yours if u wish. Do you want ease of access and affordability to vitamins and nutritional supplements? Stop FDA regulation NOW! Keep them out of the hands of the pharmacuetical industry. Please take some time out of your day, listen to show #453 on www.superhumanradio.comand then TAKE ACTION!!! www.LEF.ORG

Insomnia it's strange that you have dark hair and eyes yet live in Scandanavia, i guess you got a brutal deal when they were handing out genetics lol. I think you have ancestry from outside North Europe. Your eyes are not even light brown they are very dark.
I was a natural blond as a child, up til about age 10, and then my hair got dark as I got older. dunno. my eyes are much lighter when the sun hits them, like an orange/ golden brown color. I dont live in Scandinavia, where do you keep getting this I live in the US. My father was 100% Swedish and my mom is 100% Finnish.
