I hear you guys, I guess I am just of the belief sometimes that the difference between figure and bodybuilding is less about size and more about shape and ratios. Therefore I think you can have really big, muscular figure competitors as long as delts are genetically capped well above the traps, the waist is small, and the quads create that important x-shape! In some cases I think figure is harder because you have to place critical limitations on your physique as you seek that "figure" refinement, while at the same time achieving size in certain areas. lol @ FigRx - sorry, I'm with Jen on this one! Natalie would make an awesome FBB, as would Cope!

My understanding is that the activity here was pretty significant as recently as last summer (they are always big throughout, I am talking about the member area). Then things got particularly nasty in the fall and a lot of people were chased away, at the same time MD was ramping up largely due to siouxcountry's efforts and creating a friendly environment for athletes - and they were able to fill the void. Now Getbig is in rebuilding mode and you are a great choice for the job. I'm working on getting some more girls over here...it's just gonna take some time. I wish Sarah Dunlap and Cindy Phillips would post here...they could liven things up a bit. This board's coming along though...we got some quality threads and good contributors. It's come a looooooooooooong way just in the last several months.

Wow look at all this POSITIVE stuff over here .... way to go Lori! we luv ya!! No meanie ole I.H. to be found! This is Shona Pryce, she crossed over from figure to BB this year and will be one of our impact athletes with a great interview in our special Arnold issue. Impact athletes are new to the national level (one show maximum). We love Shona's look, and think she could have been successful in either figure or bodybuilding but are happy she has found a home ... she will not be competing at the Arnold Amateur but will be on stage at USA's ready to turn some heads. In case this png comes out blurry this is the link: http://www.figurerx.com/Photos/Arnold/ShonaPMontage.png Generally we are not huge fans of this trend (we like the other way around and we like MORE MUSCLE in figure) but Shona is an exception!!

Hi Danitza, appreciate that compliment but that was just a couple of photos - the full blown preview and Ana's spotlight are up now. Thanks so much for the link! That's a great spotlight. In addition to non-listed competitors...last I heard....Lilia Sandozequi is competing at this show also. She's not on the list...but an amazing physique as well. She won the A class and overall title at the TOC in 05.

Hi Ron, yes that is correct we have been expecting the new height classes. But the amateur competitor lists are still based on the entry forms, and hence the old height classes. We are working to move everyone around and should have new "adjusted" lists available by the end of the week. I think they approved this around November 27, 2007. It was posted on Hardbody.com, so the Arnold Classic Figure is just following the approved height classes... NEW HEIGHT CLASSES FOR WOMENS FIGURE NATIONALS AND CONTESTS WITH SIX HEIGHT CLASSES: Up to 51 Over 51 and up to and including 52-1/2 Over 52-1/2 and up to and including 54 Over 54 and up to and including 55-1/2 Over 55-1/2 and up to and including 57 Over 57 Source http://www.hardbody.com/news/2007/11/28/changes-in-the-npc-fitness-figure-and-lots-of-em/

Hi Danitza, Ana will be our spotlight athlete for the show and we're excited to feature her ( LINK). Brianne Shaw will not be competing. So I second the notion that this doesn't look like an official entry list - yet. Thanks Isaac. Interesting because I never filled out a registration form? At any rate...my close friend Ana Tigre WILL be competing and she looks FABULOUS!!! I cant wait to see her on stage!

You had to bump this back up to the top Tre'? I really think that the only way to do it is to have a private committee, not only so they can't be influenced but also for the committee members' benefit - they could potentially be approached by a lot of people trying to get into the show, or to get others into the show. And that could be really annoying for them. I love it when I miss a quality inside joke.
Secret selection committees are, like, totally cool.
Seriously - if they are not known, that means that they cannot be deliberately influenced by schmoozing, favors, etc.
But if a manager like, say, Stephen, knows members of the committee, then wouldn't that potentially give him an advantage in helping his competitors to secure invites?
Just aksin'...

I don't remember for sure but I think that the previous comment was about the Palm Beach Pro, and we had not seen routines from several of the competitors - so yeah it would not have made sense to comment. We did not know much about Michele Mayberry, for example, then she put on a great show and is now a favorite. Now we're talking about the Arnold, so it is likely that we have seen the vast majority of the athletes who will be there. But that's irrelevent to the Arnold selection articles, where the results are based on athlete characteristics and past judges scores, not anyone's personal opinions. Any comments on routines would come in the preview article, I presume. Isaac, hope you have a great holiday weekend - wish I could be in Steamboat for Xmas like in previous years, love it there, you are lucky to be in Colorado during ski season! Sure. Or it could be what you said back in October when asked to make Fitness Predictions.

Yepper, we entered all the IFBB scores for the different rounds separately. So we didn't have to comment on the routines, we just let the previous IFBB scores be a factor - essentially the experts / judges made those comments for us. Of course we discovered the obvious - that competitors who are consistent across the rounds (great physiques, great routines) were more likely to be selected. That's why Julie Lohre almost busted the charts, her consistency in all facets. Will that transfer into reality? We will wait and see. The fitness portion I don't feel you're able to do the same thing. The fitness routines were left out of the FigureRX review and comments. Anyone who follows fitness knows the routines are a large part of where a competitor places and to accurately give stats on that - you'd have to break down the 45 second and two minute routines, which obviously have more variables.
