2  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Sally Anne Taylor leaving RX Muscle on: April 02, 2014, 07:08:10 PM

Wow - Dave fired Bryan 3 days before the monthly payroll. Sad.

For reasons still not completely clear to me, I am no longer with Rx Muscle. Sally Anne Taylor gave notice at Rx 3 weeks ago knowing she needed a fresh start somewhere else. The last day of her tenure at Rx I received a call and was told that there was a “conflict of interest” by having Sally and I working for separate companies and living in the same household. I was given notice of firing three days before our monthly payroll.

I want to thank ALL of the athletes and promoters from around North America who gave me their time, attention and the ability to report bodybuilding, strongman and powerlifting news with honesty and integrity. I want to thank the athletes specifically for giving me your time in triumph and in defeat. I want to thank Johnny Styles for producing our radio show. I want to thank Tad Inoue Tad the Diet Coach for his time, friendship and guidance. But most of all I want to thank SallyAnne for taking a chance and moving on to a place where she is respected and treated as an equal..

I am in talks with a few companies to bring me back into the fitness fold in new and maybe familiar capacities.
3  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Arnold Schwarzenegger's movie worst opening ever on: March 31, 2014, 08:26:57 AM

Is Arnold done with making movies?

This weekend, Sabotage brought in $5.3 million in the United States from 2,486 theaters. It was Arnold's worst opening in 30+ years and is now considered the worst ever opening weekend gross for a movie debuting in more than 2,000 theaters.

His last two movies.

In 2013, Escape Plan's gross opening weekend was $9.9 million, with only a $25.1 million US gross.

His other movie, in 2013, The Last Stand, also grossed $6.3 million opening weekend, but only brought in $12.1 million total in the US.

One New York City yoga studio has taken yoga’s flexible principles to the next level by offering co-ed, naked vinyasa courses.
The class, introduced the Bold & Naked studio in Chelsea, is supposed to provide students with a new way to focus on celebrating their bodies and is not intended to be sexually evocative.

'There are a lot of things that separate us in a normal yoga class, like what brand of yoga clothing you're wearing or how you look when you're wearing it,' Vanessa Kennedy, a naked yoga class attendee, told Reuters. 'But when we're naked, it's like we're all the same.'

10  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Sally Anne Taylor leaving RX Muscle on: March 20, 2014, 10:30:48 AM

So what is the real reason behind Sally leaving. She did almost everything there.

From Sally Anne Taylor - March 17

"I’ve given 2 weeks notice at Rx Muscle effective March 14. It’s time for me to move in a different direction & face new challenges. My time at Rx has been invaluable in terms of what I’ve learned and experience gained. Thank you Dave Palumbo for giving me the opportunity. I wish the team at Rx Muscle the best in all their future endeavors.

To all the sponsors & advertisers that have supported Rx Muscle during my time there, I sincerely thank you for the love you’ve shown – and continue to show Rx. Should you need anything within the last few days of my tenure, please do not hesitate to contact me. I’ll do my best to make your transition to new personnel at Rx as easy as possible. Thank you! I’m very excited to see what 2014 holds for me"

12  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Planet Fitness removes squat rack because its too intimidating. on: March 20, 2014, 09:16:58 AM

Planet Fitness regularly touts how it’s not like all the other gyms and encourages soft people to indulge in its purple haze of mediocrity. And now they’re taking it one step further: Getting rid of squat racks for being “intimidating.”

Redditor Kalerad posted his problem with Planet Fitness’s overly all-inclusive philosophy on the site’s Fitness subsection.
“I walked in noticing the outline of dust on the floor where the squat rack once stood. I was heartbroken. Especially since I had just recently found a love for squatting.

“I of course had to ask an employee “WTF?” He regretfully told me that a few days prior corporate came in and removed it because ‘a customer complained that it was intimidating.’”

The move is one of many — along with offering free pizza and bagels and tanning beds — to lure in the casual gym goer who might be turned off by gyms being a little too “fitness oriented.”

Either way, if you want to do serious workouts at any point in your life, make sure to avoid Planet Fitness. And if you’re the type of person who’s intimidated by a series of metal rods that make people stronger and healthier, we’re probably all better off if you remove yourself from society’s gene pool.

15  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / MHP and Dana Lynn Bailey are no longer working together on: March 13, 2014, 04:07:48 PM

From DLB

I would like to start out by thanking MHP for all of their support and their professional and personal development they have provided me during the last two years.  I have enjoyed working for MHP, but, it has come to a mutual agreement between myself and MHP to part ways.

I have decided to focus on the businesses Rob and I have started. This is a very exciting time for us. We have FLAG NOR FAIL, The WARHOUSE GYM and the WARHOUSE GYM Camps, and most recently the SPEED Warhouse. With all of the traveling we are doing over the next year, we need to put all that we can into these businesses to make sure they are everything we want them to be. In order to achieve optimal success, we are willing to take some risk to achieve something even greater.

I would like to wish nothing but the best for Gerard and the entire MHP staff and team. I am excited for my future and what is to come.

Thank you for everyone support!!!

Are these new pictures of Arnold that are coming out?

Robert & Arnold first met in 1972 when Arnold flew into Australia for a bodybuilding exhibition. When Arnold arrived at Sydney Airport Robert went out with his girlfriend and movie camera. He didn't know at that point that Arnold had seen photos of Robert in the English bodybuilding Magazines. When Arnold saw Robert he said "Hi Robert" and from then on an honest and sincere friendship started, one which led to many great memories and the taking of many great photographs of Arnold!

18  Getbig Womens Area / Figure, Bikini and Fitness Discussions / Training for NPC Bikini… What is the “correct” way? by Candice Perfect on: March 04, 2014, 11:05:55 PM

Article written by Candice Perfect, NPC competitor

This is a question I get asked frequently by new competitors.  This question does NOT have ONE correct answer.  It’s hard to simplify the answer to this question and generalize it for all competitors. If we did that, the answer would not be of use to anybody.  Just as every single body is different, the answer should be different for every competitor.  In order to get the correct answer, we must first ask the correct question.  The correct question we should be asking actually has two parts: what are the judges looking for, and what does this specific competitor’s body need in order to achieve that look?

The Bikini Division has been labeled as highly subjective,so how will you know what the judges are looking for?  Without getting into the topics of stage presentation and other related factors that may affect placings, let’s focus solely on the criteria for a good bikini physique.  Generally speaking, bikini is about proportions…developing the right body parts in order to create an elongated, curvy, and feminine shape.  I say DEVELOP to eliminate any belief that one must be born with an hour-glass figure to be successful as a bikini competitor.  Some of the best IFBB Bikini Pros began as amateurs with no curves or muscle maturity whatsoever, and now, after several years of consistent training and dieting they are ranked best in the world.

If we are to identify THREE essential body parts the judges look at first, they will be: glutes, waist, and quads.

Probably the most important body part on a bikini competitor is the glutes. Obviously.  Not much explanation needed here.  Generally when we are talking about Bikini Division, bigger is not better… UNLESS we are speaking in context of the glutes.  This region must be well developed, demonstrate good separation and conditioning (especially between the upper hamstring/lower glute connector), and be extremely tight and perky.  Some of my favorite IFBB Bikini Pro glutes are: Stacey Alexander, Justine Munro, and Amanda Latona.

Next comes the waist. To be competitive in this division, one must have (or appear to have) asmall waist.  This is so important in the Bikini Division and perhaps the body part that has the most misconceived notions.  First of all, when we are referring to the waist, we are not referring to the abdominal muscles.  Yes, they are in the same vicinity but a bikini competitor should not have shredded abs… that’s for a different division.  Bikini is not about abs.  I promise you the judges are not looking to see who has the best shaped, blocky, cut up abs on stage.  Of course, as you lean out your abs/obliques will show as this signifies a low body-fat percentage, but no bikini competitor ever won a show because she had the best abs. On the contrary, I have seen bikini competitors get docked points for being “too hard” in the abdominal/oblique area. Bikini is all about having the right proportions.  And when we are talking about the waist, we are talking about proportions.

There are two things to take into consideration about the waist.  The first being that the size of someone’s waist is primarily due to their genetics. A waist is one of those things that is more difficult to sculpt, although it can be done (which is another topic I will write in detail about later).  The second, and perhaps most over looked factor about waist size, is that one’s training methods greatly affects the appearance of their waist.  The way someone trains affects the overall appearance of the entire physique.  The body is intelligent and adapts holistically.  Even if you attempt to do isolation training, it STILL affects some other part of your body.

This brings me to our next topic of the quads.  A bikini competitor’s quads can easily mean the difference between winning and/or not even placing Top 5 in their class.  The most common critique I hear bikini competitors conversing about is “my quads are too big.”  So what should the quads of a bikini competitor look like?  The answer to this question is what will determine the kind of training each individual bikini competitor should be doing.  Your goal as a bikini competitor should be to have the best proportions of any competitor on the stage next to you.  What this means is that you do NOT want your quads to make you appear short, stocky, blocky, or otherwise disproportionate in any way.

Now that we have discussed the principle of proportions and the importance of this in the Bikini Division, I can now address the major disconnect that seems to occur between competing in bikini and training for bikini.

I see so many bikini competitors posting pictures and videos of themselves squatting or leg pressing with multiple plates and boasting about the weight they are putting on.  This is great… if you’re planning on becoming a power-lifter.  I’m not saying don’t lift heavy.  I LOVE to train heavy.  But I also know how my body responds.  I build muscle extremely fast, especially in my lower body and core. Training your lower body with heavy weight (especially when doing exercises that are full-body movements such as squats) can cause your quads to grow disproportionately.  These exercises also cause a higher level of engagement from your core which can cause your waist and midsection to appear blocky, square, and can even cause your stomach to protrude outwards.  Definitely all contradictory terms to what the judges are looking for in Bikini Division.

So, it now appears that I am “anti-squats”… this is NOT the case.  I still use squats in my leg training.  However, I use a variety of modified form and movements that take the stress of the weight off of my quads and refocus it to the glute and hamstring regions.  Squats are known to be the BEST exercise to build the lower body, including the glutes.  That may be, but I perform MANY exercises that I have found to be far superior at isolating and building the glutes.  This is key in the Bikini Division: performing exercises that can engage, isolate, and target the glute region while simultaneously keeping your quads disengaged.  Your goal should be to find exercises that allow you to train glutes EVERYDAY while leaving your quads out of it.

(-----Obviously,I am now focusing this article towards competitors who have over-developed or “not-lean-enough”quads.  The type of training previously mentioned may be necessary in some cases for competitors who are extremely petite, are bow-legged, or who do not gain muscle easily.  There are some bikini competitors who DO need to consistently train heavy and work to build their quads due to the fact that they are just more petite than everybody else. But this is extremely rare.-----)

Now you’re probably asking, what are these exercises that build the glutes while disengaging the quads?  There’s really no secret… it’s the same old exercises… but the trick is to perform them indifferent ways.  Modified form has been my biggest tool in changing my physique and reducing the size of my quads.  I will write more in detail later about modified form and different angles I use to take my quads out of it and isolate the glute/hamstring regions.  For a bikini competitor, plyometrics and donkey kicks should be your best friend.  I have heard competitors scoff and say that donkey kicks don’t work… I used to think the same thing.  Well, have you ever tried doing 4-6 sets of100s of them???

21  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Gym memberships add Obamacare tax on: February 11, 2014, 09:50:43 AM
Some people who are members of the health club Planet Fitness are finding their membership costs have gone up because of the Affordable Health Care Act.

A sign posted at a Falls Church, Va. location says "Holders of Black Card memberships will be required to pay a tax on these memberships Starting January 1, 2014 as required by the implementation of provisions of the Affordable Health Care Act.  This is not a change in your membership fee but rather a tax required by the government."

Ashley Pratte, who works for the Young America's Foundation, took the photo.  She wrote that when she asked a Planet Fitness employee about the sign, they confirmed that it was a five-cent-per-month tax related to the ability to tan under the membership.

The reason these accounts are forced to charge the new tax is because they include the option for members to tan at the clubs.  Obamacare has a tax on tanning salons.  It doesn't matter if the member uses or does not use the tanning facilities.

The reason that people might get the so-called Black Card membership without wanting to tan is that it gives the member reciprocal use of all Planet Fitness locations without having to pay extra.

The tax, called an excise tax, is 10 percent.  It's unclear why Planet Fitness is only charging $0.05 a month tax.  Pratt says that she has researched other locations and some charge $.60 in new taxes.

24  Getbig Womens Area / Figure, Bikini and Fitness Discussions / Somewhat upset about being asked to model without clothes on: February 05, 2014, 09:52:32 AM

Interesting Facebook quote by a top bikini competitor.

"I have gotten TWO requests to shoot NUDE in the past 24 hours. Let me be VERY clear here. I was NOT born yesterday, I am a doctor, and I value my career and reputation. In no way will I tolerate requests from scumbags who think I am naive and insecure enough to disrobe for a shoot. WOW. Ladies, please please PLEASE know what your limits are! Every time you pose nude and post those images, they cannot be erased. Why cheapen yourself? Be confident and learn to say NO to these predators who think they can fool you into showing your stuff and jeopardizing your own reputation!

You can be VERY sexy yet keep it classy by covering up your goodies. The world doesn't need to see that! You need to regard your naked body as sacred, and not reveal it to everyone. That being said, I want to make sure everyone knows that I am VERY secure in my body and don't freak out about being nude. Yet I will not allow photographers to shoot me nude. Remember, YOU CAN BE SEXY WITHOUT TAKING OFF YOUR CLOTHES!!!!!!  Thank goodness I don't have a daughter, because I would be so worried about predators trying to convince her to devalue herself and shoot with them."

Only problem with posting this is that can you really write this when you have posed without clothes and shown your goodies? Opinions?

25  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Brandon Curry no longer with BSN on: February 04, 2014, 01:33:52 PM

Brandon Curry burst onto the bodybuilding scene at the 2007 USA Championships taking second place but grabbing the attention of the industry.  One year later he came back claiming a win and thus earning his IFBB Pro Card in 2008. "THE PRODIGY" has been a BSN Athlete since 2007, and during that time has represented the FINISH FIRST ideal like a champion, most recently by winning the first ever Arnold Classic Brazil in April, 2013. Brandon’s association with our brand has come to an end, and we wish him all the best as he pursues continued success.
