I am a fundamental trader. I am not as anal as it would require to do technical trading.

P.S. I am not too fond of technical traders, I find that a lot of their tactics are bullshit sprinkled with heavy chart and regression analysis.
You're able to day trade off fundamentals or are you strictly longer term holds? It's an art form. Not for everyone, but without I could not navigate the market

I am currently a trader at a boutique hedge fund.
Aside from my day job, my family and I are largely vested in the realm of accounting, whereby we own a few offices that service small-medium sized local business. Like that of an H&R block, we have a small number of offices scattered throughout the NYC area that serve many local Israeli & Greek businesses (a large number of diners, hardware stores, Jewelry shops, fabric shops, supermarkets, liquor stores etc.).
I won't claim to be some rich tycoon with the world in his palm. On the contrary, I am just a hardworking individual who has been blessed with good fortune throughout life and played it very safe when it came to money. I am also very blessed in having a great husband who is highly ambitious as well.

I see what you are saying, but I don't take it quite that far. I look at trading securities like I would look at trading junk from yard sales. Let's say, for example, that I find an old hammer at a yard sale. I buy it for a dollar, and the next week, I have a yard sale of my own and sell it for two dollars. 100% profit. Obviously, trading securities is more complicated that this; I'm just sharing the underlying principle. Most of these "day trader" types do no research and operate on "hunches" (or "press releases" from pump and dump machines), while trying to earn $1MM off of a single $5 penny stock purchase. If they focused on finding undervalued securities and taking 10-20% gains (after commissions and taxes), they would do far better. A 10% gain in a month equates to a 120% annual return but too many people want to double their money every five minutes and that unrealistic goal leads to poor trading decisions. Again, I'm not discounting what you mention about possible corruptions in the market, I'm just saying that wise trading is not gambling in the truest sense of the word. And to make this post bodybuilding related... Any day trader who trades on "hunches" will blow up his account fast. If you don't put the research in or know how to read charts you will not be successful. This is a very competitive and unforgiving industry. Most hedge funds don't make 10% in a year, let alone 120% returns.

I'm not a trader but I know a volatile market especially with the euro countries, it kills us. Example is the day before we were NYSE was up today it's down -120. We've taken a huge hit in our mutual funds and 401k. I'm not a big risk taker.
We've only seen a 11% correction to date, most of that has been recovered. There has been some massive blow ups on individual stocks: TPX, RAX, CMG, NFLX, WYNN, GMCR, LVS, IBM, INTC, SNDK Same thing happened last year, the market rallied up on low volume going into options exp (ended this week). After options exp things got really ugly. I expect the same result this yr and would not be surprised to see a repeat of 2008. Protect your profits, put stop losses in so you're positions aren't underwater. You can always buy back at the lows.

The first 10mins is total madness, plenty of time for the guy to escape. Imagine this happened at multiple locations across a city, I don't think local police or rescue could handle it. Sounded like every single unit in town was at that location

Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: City workers wages slashed in Scranton, Pennsylvania

Well, I don't live in Scranton, PA.. but I do live in Pennsylvania, and from my experience unions have a MASSIVE stranglehold on this state and public workers are vastly overpaid for their skill levels. I know teachers making $75k a year and garbage men with a high school degree making over $55k. I should mention the cost of living in PA is generally very low, outside of Philly too. So this is a lot of money.
Good to know

My gramps was a radio operator on a bomber in WWII. They were on a bombing mission over axis airspace, the plane got hit and was going down, the pilots ordered the crew to evacuate. My gramps was the first one out. The second guys equipment malfunctioned and blocked the evacuation for the other 8 crew members. The rest of the crew went down with the plane I was never old enough to ask him about it, I only know what my dad has told me.
