1  Getbig Main Boards / Politics and Political Issues Board / Re: Hagel Plan Allows Women Into Navy SEALs on: Today at 04:32:03 PM
I think this might be a slippery slope. Even after women are allowed to try, many "pc"  advocates will start saying "why aren't there any women still " or "why only 3 women in the SEALS" and push for changing standards or find another way to shoehorn them for "equality". It is doubtful they can withstand the exact same standards (and treatment) but let them have a go on absolutely equal terms and let them see what happens.
Unit/team coherency would be another issue that should be taken into account.

Whats you guys' opinion of the new 2014 Chevrolet SS (6.2 Liter Enginer, V8, 415 hp, 0-60 in 5 seconds)?

I was on board until they announced that overblown $44,000+ price tag!

For about the same price you can get the Charger SRT8 or the Chrysler 300 SRT8 with 470hp.
And then there other cheaper options of a slightly different nature like the Taurus SHO (3.6 Turbo 365 hp AWD).

6  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: 91-Year-Old Sets Bench Press World Record on: June 16, 2013, 11:34:24 PM
Dude looks 20 years younger!

There's a 72 year old in my gym, still benches 300 ish, does a few meets each year and holds a few records.  Coolest guy too. Looks about 55, but just moves a lot slower like an older guy. Very inspiring.

True, he looks more like 71, not 91. Great for him.

I'd wager the actual numbers are much greater (too many undocumented illegals).

12  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Terminator 5 -- Arnold's Back! on: June 14, 2013, 12:54:06 PM
The new Conan movie "Legend of Conan" is supposedly going to be about an old King Conan who knows he is older and obviously won't be as panther-ish and physical as Conan usually is. This is what the director says:

“I want the warrior whose joints have started to fuse together, who has to crack the cartilage so he can pick up a sword again. I want the guy who’s not necessarily lost a step, but there’s some rust he has to shake off. I want to embrace that. It makes it a greater hero story. Conan needs to be faced with challenges. The greatest challenge to him isn’t the armies that are set before him. It’s, on some level, self-doubt, a little bit of slowing down and forcing yourself to be heroic beyond what people expect of you. What I don’t want is for him to step back in and look the same. That would defeat the purpose of our story.”

This approach sounds realistic and the look below is suitable for an old King Conan but I don't think Arnold can pull off the no armor look anymore without cgi or a body double.

Maybe 10 years ago Arnold could pull off this look but not today I'm afraid:

Visually it looks like 300 but the events are a bit different. Eva Green is an interesting choice.
The historical Artemisia was very dynamic for a woman of her time, commanding a small fleet, but also very cunning: when she realized she was being chased by an Athenian ship and about to be sunk she attacked one of her allies and was thus mistaken for a Greek ship and managed to escape.

16  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: 2014 Porsche 911 GT3, By Chris Harris on: June 13, 2013, 01:25:18 PM
Chris Harris probably is the best (fast & expensive) car reviewer online. Very honest in his criticisms too, for which Ferrari has banned him from driving their factory cars    Grin

Though I've seen some reviews I don't agree 100% with, he is very honest and straight forward and definitely one of the best car journalists out there.
He revealed something that was pretty much known but no one had the balls to admit-which magazine would want Ferrari telling them they won't get any Ferrari to test from now on.

This Jalopnik article started the shit storm:

18  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: twiter trashes kid who sang anthem @ lakers/spurs on: June 12, 2013, 10:36:35 PM
True enough, there is no punishment for violating it, this US Code is written to guide people to display proper respect.  My reply was in response to t-h saying that "for protocol Obama was doing the correct thing.".
Tu-Holmes--good on you for stepping up.

Exactly, it is protocol and the majority of people do it anyway out of tradition and respect for the flag.

Obama certainly didn't make a good showing there, especially for a high ranking elected official.
19  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: twiter trashes kid who sang anthem @ lakers/spurs on: June 12, 2013, 10:18:16 PM
Nope, according to US Code, all not in military uniform should stand with their hand over their heart.
http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/36/301

(a) Designation.— The composition consisting of the words and music known as the Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem.
(b) Conduct During Playing.— During a rendition of the national anthem—
(1) when the flag is displayed—
(A) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note;
(B) members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute in the manner provided for individuals in uniform; and
(C) all other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, and men not in uniform, if applicable, should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and
(2) when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.

Keyword is "should", not "must".
20  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Jillian Michaels on: June 12, 2013, 07:27:18 PM

This paragraph from the LA Times article sums it nicely:

While Jillian Michaels fans must be frothing at the mouth, I think when a person proclaims the only way to get in shape is through hard work (true), then adds her name and image to a brand of diet pills (hypocritical), then faces a class-action lawsuit over the lack of efficacy regarding said diet pills (unsurprising), coupled with myriad examples of unqualified and unsafe training along with outrageous weight loss claims, then it's time to find a new source of fitness education and inspiration.
21  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Jillian Michaels on: June 12, 2013, 06:54:24 PM
Any idiot can make someone sweat and put them in pain, unfortunately it usually doesn't produce results.

If it wasn't for the Biggest Loser show, "coaching" people with zero willpower she wouldn't even be a dime-a-dozen "personal trainer" you see in the gym.
22  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Jillian Michaels on: June 12, 2013, 06:48:34 PM
All media hype. She has her name on a shitload of products, she has "written" books and markets herself as "America's toughest trainer" (I guess Louie Simmons is a wimp then).
23  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Lou Ferrigno story on: June 12, 2013, 06:30:34 PM
I went to college and was friends with his niece. She said Lou sued her dad (his brother) for using his own last name (Ferrigno) on the business he had selling weights and gym equipment. Wanted huge money cuz it was HIS name people were associating equipment with, never mind this guy had this business and store for like 30 years! A real scum bag.

I remember that, it was 2006.

Arnold has to show up and humble Lou every once in a while.

25  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Story about Menzter on: June 12, 2013, 03:46:56 PM
The most widely circulated rumor that I remember about Mentzer was that he was heavily into drugs like speed and cocaine.
As for him making a comeback near the time of his death, if you see some of the last videos he did he looked like a wreck, hunched and out of shape.

Great bodybuilder though both him and his brother Ray (Ray was very strong in his prime).
