601  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Let slip the dogs of war on: May 05, 2011, 12:07:01 AM
A FEARLESS four-legged recruit joined US Special Forces as they stormed Osama Bin Laden's secret lair.

The explosive-sniffing dog was strapped to an assault team member as they took on one of their greatest challenges to date.

He was part of the operation in which the elite US Navy Seals lowered themselves down ropes from three Black Hawk helicopters into the terrorist supremo's hideout in the town of Abbottabad, Pakistan, on Sunday.

The world's most wanted man, 54, was shot dead by a Special Forces marksman during the raid.

Heavily armoured hounds equipped with infrared night-sight cameras have been used in the past by the top-secret unit.

The war dogs wear ballistic body armour that is said to withstand damage from single and double-edged knives, as well as protective gear which shields them from shrapnel and gunfire.

German Shepherds have been leading the way in SAS raids in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Wearing oxygen masks, the pooches have been trained to jump from aircraft at 25,000ft, before seeking out insurgents in hostile environments.

The animals will attack anyone carrying a weapon and have become a pivotal part of special operations as they crawl unnoticed into tunnels or rooms to hunt for enemy combatants.

The cameras on their heads beam live TV pictures back to the troops, providing them with critical information and warning of ambushes.

Dogs were also used in the capture of Saddam Hussein and in the killing of the Iraqi dictator's two sons.
602  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Chris Hemsworth Bulked Up Too Much for His 'Thor' Costume on: March 29, 2011, 08:52:22 PM
Here's a problem most people will never have to deal with: being too buff to play a god.

Chris Hemsworth did, though, as he prepared to play the title character in Thor, the next movie adaptation of a Marvel comic book character. The 27-year-old Australian actor had to get into serious shape to play the hero inspired by Norse mythology. But went a little too far.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Hemsworth revealed that he bulked up so much to prepare for the role that he couldn't fit into his costume. When he tried on Thor's armor for a final camera test right before shooting was to begin, it was way too tight.

Hemsworth said that while wearing the restrictive, long-sleeved costume, "[My] hands started going numb... And I started getting pins and needles and you'd touch the skin and the blood wouldn't return to the area so quick." Apparently, in the three months between being measured for the costume and the final test, his added muscle made the suit so tight it cut off circulation.

After that, Hemsworth said that the costume was altered along with his exercise plan. He said director Kenneth Branagh told him, "Let's try to pull it back just a little bit, otherwise it's too blocky." Hemsworth subsequently changed his diet and his workout routine, focusing more on cardio exercises instead of weight training.

Last July at ComicCon, Hemsworth told BuzzSugar that he packed on 20 pounds in preparation for the role. He said, "It was purely eating, eating, eating, working out and working out, trying to sleep as much as you can -- that's the other third of the equation." Back then, Hemsworth said that he cut down on the eating and subsequently dropped about 15 extra pounds. But he told the L.A. Times that, "I'm putting it back on now for The Avengers."  That movie -- which will team Thor up with Iron Man, Captain America, and the Hulk -- is reported to begin filming next month for a summer 2012

I guess the new generation of males will probably be too intimidated by an overly  "buff" comic hero.
Hurray for Hollywood

Anyone tried this? Good stuff or hype?

Is it worth taking on the days you don't train? The label advises taking 3 tabs twice a day.
604  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: How big is the mark-up on supplements? on: September 08, 2010, 12:00:35 AM
To sell retail in a store is around 100%, the manufacturer mark up is about 500%. It doesn't cost hardly anything to make a supplement and they make a killing.

How much (roughly) would it cost to manufacture?

Are all brands made in the same factory but with different labels?

606  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Training Q&A / Interval training Vs lengthy cardio on: March 24, 2010, 04:35:50 AM

By lengthy I mean 30-40 min jogging (outdoors or tread)

Been reading a bit on interval training and am considering incorporating it into my training.
Does interval training work better than regular cardio? I read somewhere that  interval training doesn't cause as much  muscle loss as reg training

What do you guys think? have you tried interval cardio? Did it yield better results?

607  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Nutrition, Products & Supplements / Re: Celltech hardcore on: February 25, 2010, 10:21:00 PM
Thanks for the responses.

Yes I do drink lots of water (even before I started creatine) so when the headaches started I made sure I was getting ample water. I make sure i'm getting my usual dose of vitamins/minerals/fish oil etc.

LOL at ROcky. Okay we get it you don't like muscletech stuff. No big deal.

I used creatine in the past ( generic prolab stuff) but haven't used it in over 4 years. I got this free jug so i figured I'd give it a go.  muscletech does overhype their stuff  but i doubt its as bad as Rocky makes it out to be. I can't recall if i got light headaches in the past with the prolab stuff.

Mcway - interested in your thoughts on this product. I thought the advertising on the jug was a bit over the top with the before after pics and 7X greater effect etc.  I don't believe that its that far superior over regular creatine. What were your observations after using it?
608  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Training Q&A / Re: What is your favorite form of cardio? on: February 25, 2010, 04:07:06 AM
How about cardio after a workout?

Is 30 min of jogging after weight training (45-1hr) overkill?
Should i jog several hours later or on a different day from weight training?
609  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Nutrition, Products & Supplements / Celltech hardcore on: February 25, 2010, 04:03:09 AM

Got thus  5lb jug of celltech hardcore and did the load up phase and am now onto 2 servings a day

2) After workout / evening

Started getting light headaches. Is this common with celltech?

haven't seen any  strength increases yet. No bloating (so far)

Has anyone tried this particular brand of creatine? I know muscletech overhypes their stuff but i got this jug free

I think Padilla had them all beat.

yes padilla was one of the greats. I agree with the others about the fact that his height probably contributed to him being overlooked

There were tons of great tag teams in wrestling over the years but I will have to agree with you. Road Warriors caused the most impact.
X2 - Road warriors/legion of doom were rocking during the  80's. Unfortunately their final matches before hawk
passed away were less than stellar.

621  Getbig Main Boards / General Topics / Re: Tis the season...for depression. on: December 15, 2009, 12:25:35 PM
Lots of people depressed during the Holiday season.  I took this test, gave me the number to the suicide hotline and said the answers I gave were consistent with those given by people diagnosed with major depression   Undecided

Do yourself a favor and take the test.

If You've got great friends and family holiday season is never boring.

Let me add, what sucks most about training now vs training them, ARTHRITIS. an exray of my knees, MRI or whatever, shows my knees have craters, spikes, peaks and valleys...bone spurs....makes knees sore as hell after heavy leg day.

wear and tear due to lifting?
