9  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Natural Bodybuilding / Oblique definition on: April 04, 2010, 06:55:31 PM
Im looking to obtain that oblique definition that a lot of bodybuilders have. Im very lean but no matter how hard I try I cant seem to get that oblique definition. I know it has to do with diet, but how much leaner can I really get without looking to grotesque.

http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/asilver1.htm

Im confused when he does the 10-5-5 / 8-4-4 / 6-3-3 rest-pause..I know the rest pause at the end. When he goes 10-5-5..Does he mean 10 reps, then 5, and then 5 again? Descending reps?

Also when he does 3-4x8-4 1-1/2 rep

Does he mean 3-4 sets and 8 - 4 reps. Im guessing it descending reps?

Thanks

SM

I found out through personal experience that short intense training highers your test levels, compared to longer more endurance type workouts that lead to over training which end up lowering your test levels. Does anyone have any studies to prove this?

Been training since 2005. Already did various routines. High frequency with medium amount of volume works best for me. I noticed if i go all out on a bodypart it takes about 5 days for it to recover and for me to feel i can hit it again. Thats why I choose this routine.

14  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Training Q&A / Help with routine on: March 20, 2010, 05:37:45 PM
I found this routine by Baby_Hercules that looks great, except for the fact once I repeat chest, shoulders, tris are hit in a 3 day period instead of 5 days. How can I construct this routine to hit each boypart every 5 days?

Mon:Quads & Calves
Tues:Chest, Shoulders, & Triceps
Wed:Hams & Calves
Thurs:Rest
Fri:Back, rear delts, Biceps
Sat:Light leg day(quads & calves)
Sun:Chest, Shoulders, Triceps
Mon:Rest and repeat

Thank You

16  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Training Q&A / Re: Exercies that doesnt involve the traps. on: March 16, 2010, 06:10:43 PM
Another challenge and trick question(?) from SM I see. He's testing us, I do believe.

All forms of overhead presses (BB, DB or cable) involve the traps. When, on the way overhead, the elbows reach a little below shoulder level, that is when the traps come into play strongly. Traps come into play with most pulling exercise, almost from the very start. Haider makes a good point about elbows. The elbows can be very important in most exercises and where you may want the main focus of an exercise; traps, chest, delts, etc.

The traps are one of the main stable forces of the upper body. Any extension exercise (out and away from the body) like lateral, front and rear raises hit the traps also.  So, in a lot of ways, your SOL when trying not to involve the important short range and very powerful traps. Even benching comes into trap play. Squats have the traps as a main player.

Here are some suggestions, for what they may or may not be worth. But in any event, the traps will not be taken completely  out of these movements. But than again, why would you want to?

For the lat's/back you might try pullovers (straight or bent arm), an exceptional stretch and lat mass builder. Can work up to some very impressive weight with the bent arm version, either BB or DB.

With delts try lying side raises, but from a different angle. Lay on your side and have a DB, on the floor, by the upper legs. Now raise the DB up directly  overhead and lower it behind the body. Raise it up back overhead and lower it to the front original position. That's considered one rep.   Use the floor/mat/bench or a incline bench but an incline bench may offer better tension on the delts through the whole lift. Switch it up now and than. Can also do front incline raises.

Sure there are other ways to limit the traps, lot of good ideas of GB. Experience is a good teacher. I'm kind of tapped out myself on much more than what had been suggested. But no matter, taking the traps out of any exercise may be near impossible. Gironda tried, but with limited success. Good Luck.
Once again thanks for the response, always detailed and highly explanatory. To be honest with you bro im not testing anyone. Im asking questions that I should of asked 4 years ago when I started training. Plus if I was to ask these on BB.com I definitely would not get the same answers as I would here.
17  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Training Q&A / Re: Exercies that doesnt involve the traps. on: March 16, 2010, 02:54:53 PM
they do, so do upright rows, and to a lesser extent all of those exercises.
Im looking for exercises that DONT involve the traps.
18  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Training Q&A / Re: Exercies that doesnt involve the traps. on: March 16, 2010, 01:24:49 AM
behind the neck press, military press, barbell upright rows, barbell rows, deadlifts, pulldowns/pullups, pullovers
Dead lifts involve the traps dude.
19  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Training Q&A / Exercies that doesnt involve the traps. on: March 15, 2010, 06:13:26 PM
Im looking to improve my shoulder and back with. I usually do bent over BB rows, clean and press, lateral raises, bradford press. But they all hit the traps too much, maybe its my forum? Any shoulder/back exercises you guys can think of that doesn't hit the traps?
20  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Training Q&A / Re: Leg Exercises that dont widen waist. on: March 15, 2010, 06:10:12 PM
Anyone might try BB Hack Squats with the heels raised (2X4, pair of 45's, etc under the heels), to focus on the quads rather that the hips/glutes. One of my favorite leg movements. Think of it as a form of reverse Dl'ing and somewhat a whole body exercise. Front squats may also be improved by having the heels raise, for a better focus on that teardrop affect. Some find front squats much easier on the lower back than regular squats ever were. Good Luck.
Thats a good idea, I like where hack squats hit, but I also like the feel of conventional dead lift. I can also do rack pulls. Also have a another concern, that's getting wide obliques from doing squats,deadlifts.. Any ideas?
Thanks bro

Straps.

I do use them a lot of the time. On certain exercises like BB curls or french presses I cant use them. Any other alternative you can think of?
24  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Training Q&A / How to limit forearm growth on: March 05, 2010, 06:20:42 PM
Long story short my forearms over take my arms in mass. Forearms are hit in almost every exercise I do, especially for arms. What are some ways to limit my forearm growth while having the appearance of my biceps and triceps appear bigger?
