2  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Training Q&A / Re: drop sets on: February 10, 2006, 07:55:39 AM
There will be effect whenever you use drop sets, unless you're using them consistently.  Personally, I get sore while cutting whether or not I use drop sets...but if you feel like you're hitting the wall to early during your heavy sets, it's a good technique to keep the intensity up.
3  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Training Q&A / Re: The 5x5 wave sweeping the net.... on: February 10, 2006, 07:53:43 AM
I don't think in any way Isolation exercises or angled exercises contribute to weakness.  As a matter of fact, i think five sets of any exercise for one not prone to mass gains is too much, by the 5th and even 4th set the same intensity cannot be applied as in the first three sets.

Madonna            65%   Sad
Lindsey Lohan    64%    Huh
Sophia Loren      64%     Cheesy
Katie Holmes      58%     Undecided
Charlize Theron  58%     Cheesy
Grace Kelly          58%     Cheesy

don't worry about it....some of them are arbitrary and it's based on pixel resolution of the picture you put in, etc.

Props on Grace Kelly, though!  Arguably the most attractive woman in american film history!

7  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Training Q&A / Re: It's 2006!! You know what that means....THE INVASION OF THE RESOLUTIONISTS!! on: January 27, 2006, 09:05:33 AM
The first two-three weeks of the years always suck. However, come February everything fine again.

it better. i haven't been able to get a cardio machine for the past 4 days.
8  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Training Q&A / Re: Do you preffer 3 people training or 2? on: January 27, 2006, 09:04:38 AM
Agree completely with overload.  IF (and its a big if) everyone is really serious about being there, the time it takes for person # 2 & 3 to go usually gives person # 1 enough rest time.

Currently i train with no one, and have for about 3 years....i think usually anything's better than that.
9  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Training Q&A / Re: how to build outer chest thickness and definition? on: January 27, 2006, 09:03:03 AM
There is no outer chest...

you can only make a muscle bigger or smaller...the bigger it gets the wider it will "look"

you're right, but by that principle there'd be no upper or lower quad, yet some people have significant development in their lower quad area- and, leg extensions would be more heralded.
10  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Nutrition, Products & Supplements / Re: cokes on: January 27, 2006, 08:10:20 AM
makes me wonder how beneficial it would be for me to drop them outta my diet..i have about 4 a day  Undecided

looooooooooooooooord!  it would be VERY beneficial.  that would save you 600 calories right there, which is a swing of one pound (of fat) a week! 50 lbs a year!  You get the idea....
11  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Nutrition, Products & Supplements / Re: Supplements for height? on: January 27, 2006, 08:09:25 AM
Yeah, it's in your family, however, my mother is about 5'9 or 5'10, my father is about 5'10 or 5'11. My bro is 5'11 and I'm 6'4". I drank a shitload of milk when I was younger (about 2 or 3 litres a day easy) and I still do (although I've cut back to try and lean up a little). However, my mother's uncles were all about 6'3" or 6'5" I think she's said, so sometimes I guess the genes skip a generation.

Yeah i'd credit some sort of genetic heritage rather than your consumption of milk.  Being healthy as a kid helps to achieve your genetic maximum, but in some cases (for some individuals) that is shorter than 5'10.

Case in Point: I had a very active childhood, but didn't eat right.  Having many of my dad's genes i ended up like virtually every one of his siblings- tall.

My brother had a more or less sedentary adolescence, and the worst diet you've ever seen.  He's still nearly 6'3 himself, albeit kind of lanky.

Genes determine nearly everything.
12  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Nutrition, Products & Supplements / Re: Brand new cutting diet, what you think?? on: January 27, 2006, 08:04:50 AM
hard to say much of anything bad about that diet and training program, presuming you can keep it up.

It *might* be on the low calorie side, depending on your daily activities other than working out and your metabolism....but probably not.  You may also want to add in just a little bit more fat, say, from fish oil/flax oil pills and/or cooking with Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
13  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Training Q&A / Re: Why run? on: January 27, 2006, 08:02:02 AM
f**k man, when I was in the Marine Corps we ran with our boots on for miles on the pavement. That contributed to the fact at 44 I can barely climb stairs.

my dad ran three marathons from age 28 to age 34.  Just this last year he had hip replacement surgery, after years of incessant, horrendous, and occasionally crippling hip pain.  Though he played football in college, he blames the hip problem 98% on running outdoors; being a tall guy the compression of/on the pavement was too much.

That being said, running is still a great form of exercise; if you put the treadmill on a 1-degree incline you can still get a good running workout and cut down the risk of injury.

15  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Nutrition, Products & Supplements / Re: Protein Shakes - What do you put in yours? on: January 26, 2006, 10:35:29 PM
30 g whey, 1/4 c. egg beaters, 2 tbsp. honey (cutting) or 1/4 c. maple syrup (bulking).
16  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Training Q&A / Re: STARTING NEW TRAINING PROGRAM---EACH BODYPART 4 TIMES A WEEK !!! on: January 26, 2006, 10:33:36 PM
Is it HST that ur doing??

davie

It's like a doubled-up version of HST, the point is to cause your muscles to reach the point where they nearly lapse into overtraining, then, you back off a LOT and let them do a good bit of recovering.
17  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Training Q&A / Re: get big for football on: January 26, 2006, 10:32:09 PM
last season, my sophmore season. I was 15 years old. I maxed out at squats at 310lbs. I only weighed 150lbs at the time. I squatted 4th highest on my team.

I also did the "Jammer Machine" where you get in the athletic stance, and explode up.

I ate kung pow chicken, and rice, which has peanuts and other nuts mixed in, for dinner. My mom made it. It is high in protein.

1) Not bad at all, if true
2) The Jammer is my favorie thing ever.   It'll get you big and strong.
3) Well, not "healthy", but its got the protein, fats, and carbs.  Big eatin' meal, for sure.

Looks good.
18  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Who's the cockiest? on: January 26, 2006, 07:59:00 PM
I dunno, because some are cocky and justified as being such.  For example, being the most successful bodybuilder ever, Arnold is pretty justified in drifitng towards the pompous side.  Kamali and others, however, are not.  I know you phrased the question who IS the cockiest, but i wonder if there ought to be a cocky-to-success ratio that need be looked at.
19  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Training Q&A / Re: Stair master for cardio on: January 26, 2006, 07:30:03 PM
Arc Trainer by Cybex is a very nice, expensive piece that is similar but slightly different than their competitor, Precor's ellipticals. Those who like ellipticals say it's easier on the joints.

Right, Cybex.....I should've known better than to guess Precor.  I like this machine because yes, it's easy on the joints, and it has a lot of great interval training programs through which i can easily get my heart rate up to 75-85% of my max for 20 minutes or so.
20  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: SQUATS??? RONNIE COLEMAN WHO on: January 26, 2006, 07:27:38 PM
I was really annoyed by the plug for Met-Rx and Amped during the nutrition portion of the video.
21  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: SQUATS??? RONNIE COLEMAN WHO on: January 26, 2006, 07:25:32 PM
How many poles does it take to squat 310 kilos?
22  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Do short bb's get placed fairly? on: January 26, 2006, 07:18:15 PM
Yeah short bodybuilders have it tough, but so do really short football players, really short basketball players, and really short dudes in the workplace.

Life's not fair.
23  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Canadian Amature CBBF Shawn Colford DEAD on: January 26, 2006, 07:12:10 PM
after all these threads about people dying, i'm not sure what to believe anymore!  It's like the Getbig member who cried dead bodybuilder.

I mean i guess this one's true, i feel bad.
24  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Nutrition, Products & Supplements / Re: cokes on: January 26, 2006, 07:10:06 PM
I'd still try to at least switch to diet soda. Even if you're not competing these regular sodas are absolute poison for your over-all progress.

If you hate diet soda, try this: Suck it up and don't drink any soda or anything with sugar in it for 4-6wks, after that pop open a diet soda, it will taste a lot better then it used to. This is what I did about 7 or 8 years ago and it worked very well. It worked so well that after 4 yrs with no regular soda when I finally drank one at a football game one day, a 20oz Sun Drop, I threw up... Diet Dr. Pepper is the shit Grin

I lost a bunch of weight going into 9th grade, i basically said to myself "look, if you switch your sodas with diet sodas, that alone will cut enough calories to help you lose weight" (i ended up doin a lot of things wrong, but that's another story for another day)  Luckily I had a diabetic friend and had been previously exposed to diet soda, but, my point is (and Arnold makes a good point too) if you tell yourself that it's either diet soda or plain water, you'll probably relish the taste of diet soda.  Some people don't, for these individuals, water works just fine, and more power to 'em.
25  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Nutrition, Products & Supplements / Re: Supplements for height? on: January 26, 2006, 07:08:02 PM

As for toughness, a mate of mine who used to play footy is only about 5'9" or so and was labelled Leagues toughest guy by Gordon Tallis, who is known to be quite the animal himself. So it's not necessarily height that counts. This dude would destroy me in a fight and he's got one coming up mid February.

I've always found that the shorter guys are the ones who are always the psycho tough guys on the playing field.
