Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Bodyfit expo pictures etc

Hey Meso, I went to that as well today - first time I've been. A few observations: Tight as fuck with the freebies - no giveaways like they do at the Olympia Expos - I came away with jack shit. Crowds were manic - you had to queue for ages to get a slight glimpse of the pros. Lots of twinks strutting around in vests Said twinks clamouring to get their photos taken with all the male fitness models and ignoring the pro bodybuilders. Ronnie looking surprisingly well considering he looked at deaths door not so long ago Jay also looking impressive, large and in good condition Zack Khan fucking monstrous - impressive size, shape and condition and he really should get up on stage Terry Hollands nearly snapped my arm off when he shook my hand - strong fucker! Flex looking small but seemed chilled out and approachable Dana Lynn Bailey surprisingly hot in real life (would hit) - wanted to get a photo with her but the queue was endless. Bit gutted I couldn't find Kai anywhere, nor Levrone, nor Shawn Ray. Not a bad day but I'll go on the Friday next year instead of a weekend day when the crowds were ridiculous.

Get a god damn PC.
This. Teach yourself about the main individual components of a PC (memory, graphics cards, motherboards, etc) and get a PC company online to build you the best one you can afford. Even a mid-range system will likely shit all over any console.

Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Angelina Jolie has breasts REMOVED

She watched her mother suffer with breast cancer for ten years, until she died. That would be painful to see. I think she did the right thing. Angelina can have peace of mind knowing that the chance is very very small of her developing breast cancer. She will definitely get implants....I mean what woman wouldn't? Especially since she has all the money in the world and has already had plastic surgery when she didn't need it.
I think she said in her statement that she's already had the implants. She's already back at work filming four days after the operation.

I'm fucking sick of hearing about these paedophile stories in the UK press every day. We had that guy Stuart Hazell yesterday who's been jailed for 38 years for the murder of Tia Sharp, then we've still got that guy who killed April Jones still to be found guilty and sentenced. We've got the Saville shit still going on and the fallout from that plus countless other entertainers from the 60's and 70's who they're outing on a weekly basis. Puts me off watching the news anymore. Time to bring back hanging for these fuckers.

Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Best Death Metal Band of all-time

Those are not vocals just gutoral sounds! I can listen to the music and respect the musicianship, as soon as the so called vocals start i'm out!
x2 I'm a fan of metal and hard rock, that's all I listen to in the gym, but once it gets to this stage it isn't music anymore as far as I'm concerned. All the vocals sound exactly the fucking same no matter what band you listen to.

Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Chris Aceto vs Shawn Ray ... It's on!!!

Shawn Ray is one of my favourite bodybuilders of all time, and I'm a Yates fan. I met him at the 08 Olympia Expo and he was friendly and polite and I got a picture taken with him even though he had to rush off and be somewhere else. I can only give an opinion of him based on my own personal experience so I've got nothing bad to say about him so can't comment on the whole Aceto thing.
Awesome physique and consistent for so many years. Just a shame he was 5'7" and Yates completely out-massed him and had him on conditioning most of the time as well. Those are the breaks unfortunately.

Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Muscle hypertrophy
|
on: May 11, 2013, 01:18:48 AM

Here's how it works people:
Muscular hypertrophy is broken down into two categories, sarcoplasmic and myofibril hypertrophy.
Sarcoplasmic = focuses on an increase in the size of the muscle (with less emphasis on strength)
Myofibril = focuses on an increase in the strength of the muscle (with less emphasis on size)
So basically if you want bigger muscles you should be training to stimulate sarcoplasmic hypertrophy. The way to do this is to train with progressive overload weight-training in the 8-12 area although everyone's different and some may benefit from higher reps and some may benefit from lower. I think we all know this and I don't think it's open to much debate.
Now here's the kicker:
It's the WAY you do it. As corny as it sounds, you've got to get your MIND into the muscle. Forget about how much you're lifting or how much you've lifted in the past - it doesn't really matter. I've found that when I've reduced the weight somewhat I can more easily focus on the muscle being contracted through all parts of the rep.
Most guys just think a repetition has an up part and a down part and so they train accordingly, basically "missing" the muscle. A rep is broken down into the following:
Positive - the weakest part of the rep Negative - the strongest part of the rep Static - midrange area
Train SLOWLY - by this I mean do the reps slower. Concentrate on the negative just as much as the positive because it it's this part which causes the microtears in the muscle. The more you tear the muscle down, the more you will stimulate it's ability to grow back bigger. Forget about concentrating on getting stronger - that will come naturally anyway when you're training this way.
SQUEEZE the muscle at the top of the movement - if you can't hold it at the peak contraction (or static) part for half a second or so in each rep you do then you're training too heavy and need to drop the weight. Obviously as you work to failure it'll become harder to do this anyway so you need to start hitting peak contraction failure around the 8-12 mark. The squeeze or static portion of the rep also causes significant microtears.
Keep CONTINUOUS TENSION on the muscle - don't "rest" at the bottom of the movement - you should be stopping the weight from moving and holding it in place using the muscles but still keep tight with the muscle coiled like a spring ready to go again for another rep. I see so many guys training and slacking off in between reps to get their breath back and all the while the muscle isn't under tension. You can rest when the set is done and you've reached muscular failure.
Go beyond failure - this is what separates the men from the boys and separates the guys who look the same every year from the guys who consistently get bigger - it's because they're working harder.
So in my opinion, that's the most effective way to stimulate muscular hypertrophy - forget about training like a powerlifter, weightlifter, or strongman and train like a bodybuilder instead. That's why they all look different.
Diet, rest, and steroids are self-explanatory.
Enjoy.

Fair play to the dude. He's set a precedent today and I hope others follow. On a side note, wonder how long it'll be before a footballer in the English Premiership comes out? Homophobia is so deeply ingrained in footballing culture in the UK that I can't see it being soon.
