I can see how books like these can benefit guys who are totally socially inept, who can't pick up on social cues, don't know how to carry on casual conversations, etc. Not knocking on these people, as they may need the advice. How much force you use depends on your bodyweight, how fast your are running, and biomechanics of your body. These are ballpark estimates as TA was saying because you can't account for all the individual differences.
