1  Getbig Main Boards / Politics and Political Issues Board / Re: Should we initiate a no-fly zone in Libya? on: March 09, 2011, 12:12:42 PM
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made it clear imposing a no-fly zone is a matter for the United Nations and should not be a U.S.-led initiative.

The White House said, however, it believed a U.N. arms embargo on Libya contained the flexibility to allow the rebels to be armed if such a decision were made.

The US is in full capitulation mode.
Clinton didn't bow to the UN and GWB didn't how come Obama has to.

There will be no agreement in the UN which is fine with Obama since he won't have to confront the uprising.

For a country that once said that it would help democracies anywhere.

It now will prop up dictators in Regimes unfriendly to the US and then use the UN as cover.
2  Getbig Main Boards / Politics and Political Issues Board / Re: Should we initiate a no-fly zone in Libya? on: March 09, 2011, 11:17:22 AM
we get involved in civil wars when the countries have a resource we want.  Rudy admitted iran only matters cause of their oil - they'd be a 'paper dragon' without it.  Mccain admitted "never again will we have to go to war for oil".

The party in the white house knows they have to sell involvement in civil affairs, and the party out of power likes to fight it.  Today in libya is just iraq reversed roles.  President mccain would be selling airstrikes, and libs would be crying about it right now, if mccain had won.

it's just ignorant to paint this as "those lousy dems" when it's just how govt works.  "someone" is going to step in and help one side win.  If China does it, and they pinkmist kadaffi's ass... they get a leg up in controlling the place when the dust settles.

SOMEONE is gonna do it, might as well be us... that's the argument of whatever Prez is in charge.

This isn't true.
Clinton with NATO instituted a no fly zone in Serbia.

This would be no different.

Sounds like Malta will give the Brits Airspace and there is a Carrier in the vicinity.

Lack of will by Obama is stopping this from happening.

Mainly because this goes against his first speech in the middle east. Where he decided to capitulate and blame Western Society for the problems in the Middle East.

Weak then and weak now.
More recently, tension has been fed by colonialism that denied rights and opportunities to many Muslims and a Cold War in which Muslim majority countries were too often treated as proxies without regard to their own aspirations. Moreover, the sweeping change brought by modernity and globalization led many Muslims to view the West as hostile to the traditions of Islam.
3  Getbig Main Boards / Politics and Political Issues Board / Re: Obama bringing back Death Panels - BY executive fiat. on: January 05, 2011, 02:44:57 PM
That pretty much sums it up. It's almost like fast food. If you don't like McDonald's, you can go to Burger King or Wendy's (I prefer Wendy's myself).

Somebody will insure you, if you cough up the money.

That's not true for everyone.

Try having an organ or tissue donation.

You will have a hell of a time trying to switch providers or getting equal coverage.

This is true to any long term illness.

While in a government system you will be mandated to be covered.

-There is a reason why people with long term health problems work less and apply for Medicad.

Obama's plan covers some of this
This would go away with repealing of the health plan.

Personally, I like a 2 tier approach where you are covered by the state or can buy supplemental coverage.
4  Getbig Main Boards / Politics and Political Issues Board / Re: Obama bringing back Death Panels - BY executive fiat. on: January 05, 2011, 10:46:57 AM
I think the issue is really being muddled.

Do you want an Insurance companies to use death panels to restrict treatment or do you want the government to use death panels to restrict treatment.

Either way someone is restricting treatment.

To think they aren't, even to the most financially well off is naive.
5  Getbig Main Boards / Politics and Political Issues Board / Re: Federal Judge Rules Obamacare Mandate Unconstitutional on: December 13, 2010, 03:28:26 PM
I'm QUITE sure that 33386 doesnt support the govt requiring ppl to purchase auto insurance.

Auto insurance is required by the state not federal law.

As for the Medicad and Medicare.
these are both administered by the state.

If Obamacare went through individual states, like romneycare in Mass then it wouldn't be illegal.

Share of funds for programs isn't illegal as the constitution has allowed joint funding of programs.

The constitution does forbid the federal government from mandating laws that affect states.
6  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: OH MY GOD PACQUIAO VS. MARGARITO WAS AMAZING on: November 16, 2010, 03:47:33 PM
there's no question pac is a legit sub-superlightweight fighter but his opponents have been hand picked 144 or so and up.  how the fuck do you explain him fighting for a belt with a guy coming off suspension and a major knockout, and the fight being sold as legit?  he skipped through welterweights without a unification fight vs one of the champs. same with mayfeather not fighting the best during his generation.

and i dont see him fighting mosley who can still rock you with his right...given he buckled FMW's knees at least 2-3 times in their fight.

if there is a vacated middleweight belt and roach and arum can set up a tomato can...he'll fight for #9 at a catch weight and pick a defensive fighter like clottie.  they wont touch the winner of the martinez or williams fight at 152-154.  shit...williams can still diet down to 144 which is amazing.

anyway...that's present day boxing for you.

All fighters at the top level fight hand picked.

It has been this way forever.

No doubt that he wouldn't fight Williams.

But FMW isn't a legit light middle either.

Th ebest fight would be PAC and Mayweather at light Welterweight.

This fight will not happen.

So who does Pacman face.
It is a real stretch for him to fight above Welterweight, yet there is no real competition for him at that weight, maybe Berto, but Pacquiao's speed would more than make up for the weight of Berto. Also Mayweather holds the lineal championship so there would be little interest unless Mayweather is stripped, which could happen sooner then later.
7  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: OH MY GOD PACQUIAO VS. MARGARITO WAS AMAZING on: November 16, 2010, 02:59:17 PM
Pacman also won 4 lineal championships.
Not just 8 belts.

Manny Pacquiao is the only boxer who is credited with lineal championships in four different weight classes (flyweight, featherweight, junior lightweight, and junior welterweight) by Cyber Boxing Zone[8][12] and[13] This has been reported by ESPN,[14] CNN Sports Illustrated,[15] and The Ring.[13] Additionally, Pacquiao has held three Ring titles.[13]

Mayweather will never fight him.
He is too quick and unorthodox.

I don't know if Pacman can go back down in weight.
Most guys can't,
Roy Jones lost all of his speed going up, now he is a punching bag at light heavy.

Pacman isn't a legit light middle weight.

He is best at light welter.
8  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: New Zealand vs. Oz: which is better? on: October 13, 2010, 02:04:03 PM
Remember this: NZ is a country of just 4m.

It's an island nation 3000km from civilisation Australia, it's nearest neighbour. There is little competition in the jobs market, in utilities & communication, in supermarkets etc. Wages are pretty low. Housing is expensive yet mainly old & very poorly insulated. Central heating is unheard of. It gets very cold & wet in winter, if your not living in the South Island, where it snows. It's what happens when a large farm decides to become a nation.

The largest city is Auckland (1.1m) which has world-class suburban sprawl with nothing but bungalows as far as the eye can see. Thus Public transport is a joke & a journey across town (i.e from the suburb you live in to the factory/industrial estate/academic institute you work in/shop at) is going to mean a good wait in traffic. There is a rudimentary train system that doesn't run to the airport yet NZ insists it is a first world country.

The clean, green image that NZ promotes is only possible because of the low no.of Kiwi's to begin with. And the amount of rain.

Nice countryside though. For the mean time, anyway. If you are a keen sailor, kayaker, surfer, tramper,  or mountaineer you could do worse. If you're looking for culture or intellectual stimulation, bring a book or get yourself an internet connection ( prepare to be gouged).

A related article:

NewZealand is inexpensive compared with the US or Europe.

I loved spending three weeks there.

I like the idea of all of the posing and comparison being completed in the prejudging.

It really helps to speed up the night show, which should be used to highlight the the best athletes.
I also think that the length of the routines should be reduced.

If you really want to sit through hours of compulsory poses then go to the prejudging,

I am not a fan of free posing. It takes away from direct comparison.

That is my two cents anyway.
10  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Football player test positive for HGH on: September 16, 2010, 09:16:28 AM
I'm a lifelong diehard NFL fan and the only guy on that list I've heard of is Jerome Pathon..... and getting a tryout or attending a camp isn't that big a deal.  Some teams even open ones....especially in the 70's and 80's.

Jon Ryan is still kicking for the Seahawks.

The top 20 players in the CIS all had tryouts for NFL teams.
2 or 3 players every year play in the Shrine bowl.
With some getting NFL tryouts.

When the NAIA folded, Simon Frasier went back into the CIS and did not win a national championship.
Simon Frasier is going into the NCAA as a division 2 school this year.
11  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Football player test positive for HGH on: September 16, 2010, 08:46:01 AM

2004 Steve Morley, Saint Mary's, OG/OT.

2006 Daniel Federkeil, Calgary, DE.

2006 Jon Ryan, Regina, K.
I figured I'd track attendance this year. I'm always curious how teams do all year.

Week 1
Laval - 13,221
Western - 8,201
Ottawa - 6,274
McMaster - 4,033 (A), 5,630 (B) (Average: 4,832)
Montreal - 5,100
Toronto - 4,111
Regina - 2,801
Calgary - 2,074
Bishop's - 1,857
UBC - 940
Guelph - 913
Windsor - Unreported

National Average (excluding the unreported games): 4,596

It can't be that bad if athletes keep getting tryouts down in NFL.

lets face it mons these guys are so wrapped up in their own world of oil dependence that they'd rather we tear this land apart looking for a finite resource 'provided it's away from them' than invest in viable renewable options.  great logic there from them very short sighted.  imagine if thats how past generations felt?
Past generations.

The ones that used slave labour. Believed in cultural genocide.
Hunted the buffalo to near extinction.

They did think the same way.

It wasn't for the weight loss or conditioning we were thinking about but the circulation issues.  These machines are supposed to do wonders for circulation and are recommended for issues like lymphodema which I have and even autism.  I would think you would feel pretty good after using one
No idea about that.

I believe in Massage for circulation issues.

But I am not an expert.

14  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: True Adonis (Adam) has been completely exposed... on: April 30, 2010, 09:25:40 AM
How are those vibration machines.  I just talked to an old friend and he bought one of the companies that make one of the popular brands of those things.  He thinks it would be good for me.  They are around $15,000
You would be much better off just walking for the same time you would use the machine..
If you have real knee issues get a membership at the local community pool and walk in the water. Don't swim.

The resistance is much higher than swimming, which means it is less efficient. The less efficient the act the more weight you use.
Because it requires more work.

Keep the money and spend it on a reward for the goal that you set.

This I agree with.
Obesity in our society is mainly caused by a much more sedentary lifestyle by the majority of the population.
With the advent of the computer, The majority of people in their jobs do less moving and lifting.
Plus with OSHA requirements even construction workers lift a lot less then they use to.

Add in cheap food fast food, caused by the modernizing farming practices and specialized by the fast food chains and it reciepy for weight gain.

It is kind of ironic that the healthiest people, or at least the most active people argue over which diet is better.

When the problem is inactivity. No pill is going to solve that.

By the way Stunt, vibration machines are on a comeback.
16  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: True Adonis (Adam) has been completely exposed... on: April 26, 2010, 04:12:04 PM
A lot of people won't do the work. It's a lot easier to take drugs or even follow an oversimplified diet to lose weight. I remember reading one of the Aumbass Principles threads a few years back and it was essentially a modified Atkins. It's probably different now but I'm not very fat and probably wouldn't use something like that to lose weight.
The only show I did I used a carb cycling diet. Which really caps the lows of Atkins, because you only go into Ketosis for about a day and a half a week..
Found I lost weight too fast with it and came in way too light.

Now I just follow a few simple rules to maintain.
No Sugary Drinks and no fries.
Too many empty calories and really play around with insulin levels.

If I was to do another show, which I won't, I would follow a similar carb cycling plan, however I would really watch my fat intake. Most likely using some type of fish oil supplement.
17  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: True Adonis (Adam) has been completely exposed... on: April 26, 2010, 03:40:04 PM
I never saw any point to joining the debate. Only someone unable to read (or let's be honest, understand) basic physiology would believe "a calorie is a calorie".  Smiley

I totally agree.
Everyone that bodybuilds should understand the basic concept of Ketosis.
Atkins understood this.
Most old school weightloss programs also incorporated this.

Although there are lots of guys that would rather use insulin, or other voodoo science, then to actually understand the natural cycles of the body.

I actually applaud Obama with this.  Richard Branson is already leading the way with private space exploration.

There are lots of private companies already putting satellites in space.

Branson's plane will not even enter orbit.

In another 8 months there will be a new republican majority in the house.

Then America can go back to what it does the best.
Almost no government involvement or oversight in your life.

The American system isn't set up nor can handle radical change.
In Canada in 1 election cycle you can go from a radical Liberal to Radical Conservative government.
Which can result in massive changes. This is true in Europe as well.

Because America uses first past the post and fixed election dates, people have far less loyalty to the party.

I can see certain rules of congress and senate being thrown out to slow it down even further.

Besides Pelosi and Reid run the show.

Just like Gingrich did under Clinton.

My 2 cents on American election problems is from financing. Take the corporate and foreign money out of the elections and the leaders will have to be far more receptive to the people. As it stands now a foreign government " Saudi Arabia" can out donate almost every person in the US combined.

But everyone applauded Obama and his shrewd move to break McCain Feingold. Instead of forcing to him to make it stronger.
Now the Supreme court seeing the unfairness of it had total eliminated it. Much to the detriment of American Democracy.
20  Getbig Main Boards / Politics and Political Issues Board / Re: What if Glen Beck went to MSNBC tomorrow? on: April 08, 2010, 10:40:52 AM
Beck should move to MSNBC with a conservative show.

That way MSNBC could make some money.

I don't know why other news channels don't move over to the right.

Maybe the owners of MSNBC don't like making money.

Oh well.
21  Getbig Main Boards / Politics and Political Issues Board / Re: Canadian Official Threatens to Prosecute Ann Coulter on: March 22, 2010, 01:51:19 PM
Sounds like Coulter should appear by video too.  Do they have anything similar to the First Amendment in Canada?

Not quite.
Everything has to be pass a test for reasonableness.

However, she will be fine.
GWB was in Canada about 2 months ago and he wasn't arrested.
Rights and freedoms in Canada

1. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees the rights and freedoms set out in it subject only to such reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society.
Fundamental Freedoms

2. Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms:

(a) freedom of conscience and religion;

(b) freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication;

(c) freedom of peaceful assembly; and

(d) freedom of association.
22  Getbig Main Boards / Politics and Political Issues Board / Re: Canadian Official Threatens to Prosecute Ann Coulter on: March 22, 2010, 01:16:48 PM
Actually, we have very strong speech laws here.

Some Universities are very upset that a controversial speaker/politician from the UK was not allowed onto Canada(George Galloway).

They think Ann Coulter should be held to the same level.
23  Getbig Main Boards / Politics and Political Issues Board / Re: who has payed for uninsured up untill now? on: March 22, 2010, 07:48:54 AM
I have a few friends that work in Texas and Minnesota medical that have had to deal with the uninsured.

Lots of Canadian doctors and nurses move back because they can't handle, refusing to help walk-ups.
The other thing happens to uninsured is that they get the lowest level of treatment unless they can pay out of pocket at that moment.

In Canada every one has coverage.
However, things like Ambulance rides and drugs outside of the hospital aren't so it can be pretty expensive if you don't have private insurance in Canada.
For example I know of working poor in Canad that have had to go on Welfare because their drug bills were so high, that small amount of private insurance wouldn't pay for them.
24  Getbig Main Boards / Politics and Political Issues Board / Re: who has payed for uninsured up untill now? on: March 21, 2010, 10:06:21 PM
I'm just trying to understand....the gov gets money from me/you...the tax payer....they then give to the hospital workers?

the insurance companies get money from the insured....and give to the hospital?to help cover the cost of the uninsured?

so the guy that got mugged and stabbed but has no insurance but still gets stitched up....if he doesn't pay/files bankruptcy....the insurance companies and tax payers pay for him?

Or if itsn't serious enough, IE near death.

They won't do anything.
25  Getbig Main Boards / Politics and Political Issues Board / Re: who has payed for uninsured up untill now? on: March 21, 2010, 10:04:19 PM
Yeah.  Thanks.  I know about that option, but I don't think most hospitals spend a lot of time chasing uninsured people they are required to treat (e.g., someone who shows up at the ER).  Most of the people they go after are those who have insurance and receive some treatment, but some of the treatment is not covered resulting in unpaid bills.

Lots of times, they will treat an Emergency patient and then toss them straight out. If it is critical, IE dying.
If not near death, they just won't let them in. IE on a stretcher from an ambulance.
