The top three on my shelf at the moment...

Glendronach 15yo revival
Highland Park 12 yo
JW Blue label

I'm personally partial to the Glendronach, amazing flavor-loaded sherry bomb
2  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Any chess players lurking around getbig? on: February 09, 2014, 04:45:37 AM
I've never competed formally but I grew up playing lots of older Russians in my eastern-euro community who taught me loads about theory and tactics.  I never thought I was that great but even these days I tend to crush most people whom I play a casual game with.  Studying chess as a kid (now 31yo) never interested me as chess books at the local library were just masses of plain text and overly-complex board setups, but these days I've renewed my interest with more accessible ways of studying (ie. lectures/demos from GMs on youtube and such).  Studying and playing chess is for sure more than a hobby.  The logical processes behind much of the tactical plays and understanding why various openings make sense helps the mind develop into overall a more "big picture" and "strategic" thinker, IMO.
3  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: RIP Nasser El Sonbaty on: March 29, 2013, 06:43:32 AM
Damn...mid to late 90's Nasser was one of the craziest physiques to ever present on a bodybuilding stage, and even post-retirement he kept us pumpkin-heads entertained.  RIP to a bodybuilding legend...
4  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Why do pharmacists need so much education? on: February 17, 2013, 04:20:51 PM

Yes, for the demands of the schooling, it is alarmingly difficult to find work in the field.

The only recent grads I know of that have had trouble finding work are those that neglected to work as an intern throughout their schooling.  Successful hospital-based grads start greasing the wheels for a residency the first year of pharmacy school if they're smart, and retail-based grads intern for their retailer of choice a few days a month all throughout the 4 years of school.  Those that I've seen prepare well didn't have any problems finding jobs post-graduation.  The saying from day one in pharmacy school is "it's a small world", and it's absolutely true.  Luckily I established a strong reputation early and have several standing PRN offers in addition to my full-time work if I'm interested

its the same level of education that engineers, teachers, dentists, nurses etc get.. 4year bachelors degree.

not sure that qualifies as "so much education"...

and ive never heard of pharmacists having to get a doctorate.

Negative...since about 2000, you need a doctor of pharmacy degree to apply for a US license to practice.  Many hospital pharmacists are required to complete a 1 or 2-year post-doc residency to end up their desired area of specialty.  I am currently a practicing clinical pharmacist in the hospital and receive consistent consultations from physicians to write my own orders for patients' antibiotics, chemotherapy, parenteral nutrition, etc.  I'm not sure a PharmD is truly necessary for your standard Walgreens pharmacist (not hating but their scope of practice is much more limited), but in the hospital and other specialty clinical settings it's essential

7  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Blood work, some concerning results. on: September 04, 2012, 12:03:58 PM
Don't be too concerned with slightly elevated liver enzymes...AST and ALT are really only a concern if they are 3-4 times normal.  Being slightly elevated may represent either a normal variant or being slightly overworked as mentioned in an above post (booze, pills), but it's nothing to be overly worried about

The cholesterol panel looks a bit rough for a 32 year old, especially one who works out 5-6 days per week.  It looks pretty textbook of a nutrient-poor diet likely consisting of foods high in processed foods/saturated fats and low in fiber/vegetables.  Not really rocket science, just clean up the diet/lifestyle and at your age you should be able to recover pretty quickly if you're willing

Nasser by far, his '96-'97 shape was probably the best in the world
13  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Dennis James says "Phil Heath was the clear Winner" on: October 05, 2010, 10:08:29 AM
DJ dropped the hammer on Cutler during his PBW interview and said Heath was the clear winner.  He also said T. Freeman should not have been in Top 10.
Good stuff. The best interviews are always with RETIRED bodybuilders who are no longer afraid to speaks the truth.

I don't put much stock into competitors' opinions (even retired ones) since they lack objectivity and will likely favor a physique similar to their own.  Also, bitterness and such from past competitions comes into play when these guys talk.  Cormier is another retired guy, and I think he predicted defending champion and then 3x Mr Olympia Jay Cutler to come in like 4th or something...
14  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Who takes that shot?? on: September 01, 2010, 02:44:55 PM
Roelly's facial expressions should get him an automatic deduction on every pose...also in comparisons Roelly is not as impressive as standing alone, so I'd venture to say Kai has him whooped in pretty much every pose at this point
15  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Thierry Pastel on: August 20, 2010, 08:48:42 AM
This guy is awful compared to the level of competitors out there now...there's no visible oil, torn muscles, hernia, blown out gut or pushed out obliques.  Plus he doesn't even grimace like he's taking a massive shit when he poses.  Also, I think something's wrong with his structure as his abs seem almost to curve inward in the FLS, he wouldn't even place at Nationals IMO

18  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Bob Chick Predicts Top 10 of Mr.Olympia 2010 on: August 04, 2010, 11:24:20 AM
LOL @ Cormier putting Cutler in 4th behind Dexter, considering the package Jay brought last year and the fact that the powers that be seem to be done with Dex.  Seems Chris is still bitter about that AC loss some years back, Chick's picks seem much more feasible
19  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Not EVERYONE wants to look like a bodybuilder... on: August 03, 2010, 08:42:48 AM
Most common response from someone avoiding real workouts and years of dedication.
"I want to get tone, but not too big."
My reply, "Don't worry stud, with your explosive genetics, you never have to worry about getting too big."

Careful out there guys.  If you train too much, you make look like Arnold within a few months.  Best take it slow in the gym.
You've been warned....ahhaha

Ha!  Reminds me of a few years back when a guy I worked with wanted to join me at the gym.  He stressed that he didn't want to get "bulky" and was going for a "long, lean look".  He then proceeded to perform some "savage" sets with 1 plate on the hammer strength bench press, looking like he was about to shit a watermelon whilst doing so...2 days later when he said he'd join me again he backed out claiming "it's not healthy to be so sore after a workout"  Roll Eyes

22  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Nasser El Sonbaty- Physical Anthropomorphism of God. on: March 23, 2010, 10:34:56 PM
The '97 video is ridiculous, IMO everything is perfect there except for the rear biceps poses
23  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Is this gyno? on: March 04, 2010, 11:09:06 PM
Your honest opinion...Smiley

for realz, based upon the gyno and the overall body shape in general, I'd say the dude in the pic has some definite hormone issues
24  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: The dark side of bodybuilding on: March 01, 2010, 09:29:14 PM
is that bath towel thing true? Lips sealed
plus no way JJ did g4$, guy respects himself too much... Huh

I could be mistaken, but I believe the story about Kovacs and the bath towel came from Nasser.  Can someone confirm/deny?
