The guy has been in shape his whole life. Just amazing. His book is a biography and I really enjoyed it. He claims he didn't use steroid until he moved to California. He says he competed not even knowing about them. I tend to believe it because he has just never been out of shape and that is amazing.
2  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Ronnie Coleman on: July 30, 2014, 07:33:11 AM
I wish him well. Just can't think that if he never was a pro bodybuilder using a ton of gear he would have been maxing out with 500 to 600 in the squat instead of the 800lbs plus.  Maybe he could have avoided the damage. Coleman and Yates both ripped their body apart with max weight being the best.

It all depends. I know two guys, juiced for the past 25-30years, both over 50, look incredible for ther age, health intact, aside a few small injuries, both have beautiful younger females and generally just won at life. Tho' they werent your typical juiceheads who put all his bets on "the lifestyle". It's all relative.

Yes, there are fools over 50 who juice and look incredible on cycle. Your explanation sounds like the guy that has an uncle who smoked for 50 years and claims the risk is over blown because his uncle is still alive. Is smoking a risk to health? Of course it is, just the same way using steroids are.

It must be hard mentally for some pros. Some of them now look like they never lifted and when they are in the gym seeing kids much bigger than them it must get to them. I can imagine them carrying old editions of Flex around saying "see I was big once too".

Having bodybuilding as your while life then looking like you don't train now must affect you psychologically.

I know guys that actually carry pictures of them self in bodybuilding thongs to show people how they use to look because you would never know by looking at their body.
6  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: How many of you use a Camelbak when lifting weights in the gym? on: July 29, 2014, 02:10:05 PM
If you are riding a bike for 100 miles it sure would come in handy. To lift weights in a gym is just about as  fucked up as it gets.
7  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Life after Bodybuilding on: July 29, 2014, 06:34:14 AM
This has been my experience being around bodybuilding forever. A guy starts bodybuilding in high school and college. The bottom psychological make up is usually an insecure guy. Some where along the line they discover the gym guy who sells syringes, pills and vials out of the trunk of their car. They do a cycle and are amazed at the progress in 6 weeks.

Everyone is giving them props where ever they go. People start asking training advice but when advice is given they never mention the drugs because that would take away the praise they received. On cycle they feel aggressive, confident and a euphoria that just magically chases away depression. A segment of the female population that is ignorant to how he got his physique is practically dropping their skirt to be around him. The steroids are not cheap so a big part of their money goes to the drugs when they are in their early twenties.  Then after 2 months of living a dream they go off to give their body a break. They start losing rapidly after a couple of months off. Psychologically they start feeling a little timid, nervous and feel depressed. They start craving that body and that mind set. Another cycle begins and the life style begins.

So many have thrown away education and the pursuit of a decent career chasing the steroid life style. It's addictive. The praise and fun of carrying around the physique every where they go is something they crave. Then starts the decades of cycling on and off. They stop when finances, health or even criminal arrest hits them. One of the three always comes up. Usually it's health. No there are zero reputable long term studies on the health of recreational bodybuilding drug use. Who would spent resources on studying a subculture of a sport? What I have is all empirical knowledge through the years.

All of my buddies who have competed and juiced for decades are in their 50's now. All with the exception of one look like they never did a push up in their life. Many have severe orthopedic injuries.  Destroyed hips, shoulders, elbows and other sites that operations have failed to bring back to complete function. Two have died from heart attacks.

If I could give any advice to a twenty year old is that they should bodybuild and cardio if that's what they are into. Train natural. No, you can never enter a contest but you will look better than 99% of the male population increasing your health along the way. Be in awe of how pro bodybuilders look but never for one moment forget what you are looking at. Know they would look very different if the drugs weren't around. Use athletes as a role model for physiques instead of drug bodybuilders. Imagine if an elite MMA, sprinter, running back, Olympic lifter was on the Olympia stage? They would visually look like they barely lifted compared to the fluid retention, inflated, cosmetic, drug bodybuilders. The fact would be that they have muscles that actually can be used for an athletic endeavor. Strive for the same. End of rant.

Really?  Can you post it?  That's a tough surgery....tough recovery!

Now the majority of orthopedic surgeons use a minimally invasive surgery for hip replacement. It use to be they sliced and diced you to pieces to install. Now the day after they have you walking. I'm not saying it's an easy surgery or it isn't a tough recovery but's it's so much better than it was 15 years ago.
9  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: What's the difference between the US and Israel? There is none. on: July 29, 2014, 06:03:40 AM
The Jews were given a hell hole of a place. They created Israel out of it with buildings and a striving economy. They produce doctors, engineers, lawyers, top shelf military, produce goods, quality education and have employment in so many fields. In Palestine they produce nothing. They live off the charity of Israel and they hate them. They see what the Jews have created and think if only they could have it. If they did it would be ruined in 6 months.

Now there is talk of the US giving Palestine millions in assistance. Think they will use it to make their people's lot in life better? Then I have a bridge to sell you.

They don't value the lives of their own people and children using their homes to hide and launch weapons. When Israel tracks the origin of a rocket launch and destroys the house, the Palestinians parade their dead children in propaganda that this new liberal United States news providers eat up. They see death and destruction as an Holy obligation. In their schools they teach hate and death to the Jews.

The Jews are surrounded by countries that want their complete destruction. The only thing their enemies know is force. No words of negotiation is truly honored. The Jews always retaliate. Rightfully so.
10  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Why even 1/10 females today think they deserve male models on: July 28, 2014, 07:38:36 AM
I think men are more delusional than women. Every guy wants an 8 or better even when they look like a gargoyle. How many hideous guys have you seen in the club strutting like they should be on the cover of GQ when they should be on the cover of Pets TODAY magazine.

Some women are delusional too. You can have a fat ugly woman that convinced a decent looking guy to bang her and all of a sudden she thinks she can have any man she wants.

Most guys classify them self as an eight or higher. Many women can be really insecure looking in the mirror.
11  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: I'm an Olympian and I will never do CrossFit on: July 28, 2014, 04:42:05 AM
I'm in the middle of two CrossFit's both within 100yards of me and having the best summer since I opened. I get they're injury overflow and a couple of weeks ago had a bit of a friendly challenge. Since I know what CrossFit is all about but they knew very little about me. I invited them to our strongman training we do on the weekends. We had 8 cross fitters and 8 of my guys. I'm not being a dick when I say this but 3 threw up, two quit and 2 couldn't finish. Our athletes did an extra round just because. Needless to say, we picked up 4 new clients.

Sounds like you did your version of a crossfit circuit that your guys train with. I have no problem with crossfit except for their arrogance in saying it's the best way to train.  Most crossfit guys featured in amusing youtube videos are beginners and not the elite. If you filmed people in Planet Fitness and told uninformed people that this is what bodybuilding is about they would say lifting weights is foolish way to get into shape.

I said it before because it's true. If you took the typical juiced up bodybuilder and had him train with dedicated crossfit guys he would leave with his tail between his legs with his ego crushed. He would then realize his cosmetic muscles that are good for nothing athletic. The mantra of Cross Fit is that they train to be good at nothing but train in everything.

I do think that cross fit isn't for the masses. The injury rate of doing athletic exercises that the public never did in their life has a high injury potential. That article made a good argument against crossfit. Yes, their kipping pull ups are nonsense but so is the pull up that 98% of bodybuilders do of never going all the way down and not going up until their elbows are all the way down.
12  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Are crossfit games drug tested? on: July 28, 2014, 04:26:11 AM
Why is it bodybuilders are always screaming that everyone uses? Could it be they need comfort in knowing they are nothing without drugs so they rationalize that anyone who is in shape is using. I have news for you. A person can get muscular from just working out without drugs. Maybe not the majority of drug using bodybuilders but there are athletes who can. This "sport" of bodybuilding is based on drug use. Get rid of the drugs and the whole subculture collapses. No Olympia, no expo, no magazines and most of the supplements will go away. No other sports don't revolve around drug use. You have cheaters but it isn't a drug centered like bodybuilding. Are there crossfitters who juice? Of course some do but there is no other sport in the world that has a drug obsession like bodybuilding.
13  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: If bodybuilding is so gay.... on: July 24, 2014, 08:38:51 PM
In the 70's there was no money in winning a bodybuilding contest. In California in Gold's gym no one had a job yet they were able to afford apartments, cars, and pay for food/steroids. One even was able to buy a gym. A few like Arnold and Franco received chump change contracts from Weider. Supplement companies didn't have the big endorsement deals they have today. How the hell were they able to have a buck in their wallet without a job?  I wonder how they did it?

If Dillett could have gotten his act together no one could have touched him. His legs were unreal.  From the front he looked fantastic. Incredible back and delts. His back always looked water bloated and soft.

Wait a minute. There were two Mese's involved in bodybuilding. The one involved in the murder was not the judge in that bodybuilding contest. I believe I'm right.

Sergio is arguably the best bodybuilder of all time. You have to consider he competed over a long span in varying conditions. At his peak he was really a sight. Huge with a tiny waist. He is listed as 5'10" but many have said he was 5'8" and the height was a creation of the Weider mags. He has said in an interview at his best condition he was 254lbs with that tiny waist. When he won his Olympia titles he wasn't a cop but worked manual labor jobs for long hours. He also left Olympic lifting before he hit his peak.
17  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: stomach fat from drinking and stress on: July 24, 2014, 07:44:58 AM
Hey, last few years I got into drinking way to much, lots of wine etc..along with an unbelievable amount of stress that had me thinking about suicide.
Well I have gained several pounds of fat around the stomach area, it looks like the kind of fat that once you get it it wont go away..

I have stopped drinking and stress is gone now..

I in mid 40' I stuck with this fat layer ??

Start running 2 to 5 miles a day. Forget steroids but if you want instant impressive temporary physique in 4 weeks use them. Four months off steroids the gains will be gone. Don't get involved in overly heavy training but train to exhaust the muscle through reps and sets. Take short rests between sets. It will limit the amount of weight you can use but will result in more work. Don't cheat an exercise by doing it in the easiest way you can figure out how to do it by limited the range of motion.

When I was younger every woman had a nice triangle of hair down there. It just looked hot. Fooling around with girls in the 70's, and most of the 80's. Then the shaved 90's period came. It was shocking and yes hot but it's played out. It's 2014 and time to go back. I want my women with hair down there. It's just natural and having a trimmed triangle just looks so dirty hot.  I will leave you guys with the tongue out lexicon for emphasis.   Tongue
22  Getbig Bodybuilding Boards / Training Q&A / Re: The Mature thread on: July 21, 2014, 04:53:54 PM
For us older guys all you have to do is look at what 99.9% of most 55 year olds look like as motivation to train.  Most guys around that age can't run a mile at any speed. If they can it's a crawl. Many go to the gym and their whole work out revolves around benching and curls. If they have a decent bench they think that shows they are strong and in shape. If I become a trainer I won't let most guys bench so they will direct their energy into the 200 other weight exercises.

Today's work out was back. I caned the workout after 2 sets of power cleans. I just upped the weight to much. On the jerk on the last rep I nearly crashed and burned because I got out of position. Dropped the weight and watched it bounce due to the bumper plates. Just sat there pissed off.  Put on my running shoes and ran a really decent 5 miles.

My two plus weeks of one set to failure is over for now. Going back to multiple sets. One set to failure works but it's psychologically very hard. It's also really hard to load up a bar for that one insane set on the body.

As we get older you have a fine line between training the body and destroying it. Emil Zatopek the greatest distance runner in Olympic history who won Gold in the same Olympics in the 5K, 10K and the marathon said in effect, " The body is like a spring. You push it as in training and it springs back. You have to be careful to not damage the spring."

If anyone can show me a true scientific study on nitrogen retention that shows you need protein shakes to make optimal progress please show me the study. I will not accept a clinical study from an unknown lab in Europe.
