Mawse,

CAD is from multiple factors and not just cholesterol. Diabetes, smoking, hypertension, obesity, genetics, and lipids all contribute. All I am stating is that when the leading cardiologists in the world essentially unanimously espouse their use...statins....there is something positive to be gained. A lot of new theories feel that it is not the essential lowering of any number but possibly the anti-inflammatory effect of statins that are beneficial.

http://circ.ahajournals.org/content/106/16/2041.long

Thus, they work by multiple mechanisms of action and not just the simplified lower you LDL to this goal level...those goal level recommendations for triglycerides, HDL, and LDL are all removed in the latest guidelines.

BTW niacin is well known to raise HDL, but it too has innumerable side effects.

http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/high-blood-cholesterol/in-depth/niacin/art-20046208

The best natural agents I have seen to raise good cholesterol and lower bad are diet, exercise, weight loss, oatmeal, and maybe red yeast rice. Funny about red yeast rice is the original product had lovastatin in it.

Have you used Statins at all ?
They destroy your memory , I've been on them on two occasions and both times I was in a mind fog and memory was shocking.

Stopped taking them and went away - I've read and researched a bit and for alot of people they give dementia like sides.

Quite Bizarre that I approach my Doctor with this and he say's it's not the Statins yet I provide him with endless documentation
that it is , even work done and written by other Doctors on these sides yet because the Pharma companies tell him , no no they are
ok then he listens to them.

I told him Tamox(nolva) is a drug known to elevate good cholesterol after him telling me there is no known other drugs to raise good cholesterol
and he basically told me Rubbish even though my bloods proved that nolva put my good cholesterol up.

I think they are dangerous and long term (as in the future) serious issues will  start to show - they haven't been in use long enough to say there are
no long term problems.

I've sacked my Doctor also and now use one that is more open and explores different avenues to treat symptoms

Will I am on a statin as I am 44 and my pops gave me bad genes. My HDL is over 60, which is good, but my LDL is sky high. After starting lipitor (atorvastatin), my LDL is under 90. Now, I did have myositis symptoms with Vytorin (combo of simvastatin and zetia). I can't attest to memory loss, but I agree that there are so many side effects of these and every agent that it is indeed possible. It is just not a common ailment; thus, your doc is not being quite disingenuous, but he is not looking at the individual who may have an unusual reaction. As for Tamox, are you speaking of Tamoxifen??? This an anti-estrogen medication with innumerable side effects. TBH, you are better off with a statin. I assume if you are taking Tamoxifen you are on anabolics. Why don't you do a little research on anabolic steroids and their side effects. What I discern is as long as the drug you are taking is working for your physical appearance, side effects be damned. Statins are considerably well researched and for the vast majority of people very safe.

The lipid hypothesis really is the goose that lays golden eggs.

No doubt it is lucrative. However, a lot of very well established statins are now generic like simvastatin, pravastatin, lovastatin, and atorvastatin to name a few. There are still brand name statins like Crestor and Livalo that make millions / billions for pharma, but there are a lot of reasonable agents out there even for the indigent.

29.

Da Vinci as a young man on anabolics, I would expect you to have a high or even abnormally high serum hemoglobin and hematocrit; possibly secondary polycythemia. Thus, being anemic is concerning. If you are Italian as your name implies, maybe you have Thalassemia. However, iron deficiency in a non-menstruating male is exceedingly rare and frankly unheard of in your age group. I would get a hematologist to run a hemoglobin electrophoresis to see if you thalassemia or if your Hebrew a sickle cell study. Then, I would consider getting a full iron study, B12, folate, and reticulocyte count. After that, answers should start to arise.

http://guardianlv.com/2014/03/statin-guidelines-may-greatly-increase-use/

13 million more prescribed because of the new guidelines. I understand if you are skeptical. As a physician I am too. However, after reading the literature and reading the ciruculation article where they came by their reasons to advocate more statin use, I am a believer. Look, if you have perfect genetics and no risk factors then good on you. However, in the good old USA there are over 60 million Americans with HTN.

http://www.cdc.gov/dhdsp/data_statistics/fact_sheets/fs_bloodpressure.htm

A large percent are afflicted with diabetes.

http://www.diabetes.org/diabetes-basics/statistics/

Over 20 million Americans have chronic kidney disease.

http://kidney.niddk.nih.gov/kudiseases/pubs/kustats/#4

Imagine the number of individuals affected by all three. Thus, aggressively treating lipids is an effective means to reduce cardiovascular mortality. Are there better studies than the traditional cholesterol guidelines. Sure, test like the VAP are available.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vertical_auto_profile

Regardless, even if you look at LDL particle size and Apolipoprotein B levels, more statins are going to be indicated.

I guess statins are the "devil now"  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes. If one would bother to read, the AHA and the many vascular experts in the field have release new guidelines that actually call for an increased administration of statins. It should be noted that for those pt's with diabetes, a cardiovascular risk factor of more than 7.5% at ten years, prior CAD, or an LDL-C greater than 190.

http://circ.ahajournals.org/content/early/2013/11/11/01.cir.0000437738.63853.7a.full.pdf

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17284700

Thus, if you can tolerate statins and monitor LFT's, moderate alcohol, for GETBIGGERS avoid anabolics, and live cleanly they will ultimately benefit you. I tend to trust published literature and the recommendations of the world top-most experts vs MAWSE and other GB's

10  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: How would a 1997 Dorian Yates score today? on: August 03, 2014, 07:53:08 AM
Yates of 1993 would win. 1995 version too. The 1994 and 1997 versions looked like shit. Hope that helps. Comparing pics is not reality. Pound for pound, Kai is bigger than Yates. He is shorter and heavier. He has more muscle, enough said. However, Kai does not usually come in the condition that Yates was. If Yates came in as six time Mr. Olympia he would be gifted 1st or 2nd. However, if he were a random new guy who nobody had ever seen before, they would be astounded by his back, but that is it. His abdomen was bloated and a wide. His arms sucked. His thighs were conditioned, but not in Heaths league as far as aesthetics and striations. Heath would win easily.
11  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: "Jerks" Get More Pussy on: July 30, 2014, 05:25:09 PM
Think about it, woman are attracted to what they can't have. If you take a girl out and fawn all over her, there is a strong likelihood you won't get to date number two. However, if you act aloof and don't fawn over her, she is interested as you are challenge.

Simply put, guys like a chick who puts out. A nice girl can be a nice girl for only so long before you will move your ass onward. Yeah, most guys don't marry a chick who puts out on the first date, but I bet a lot have married a woman who put out in a reasonable amount of dates or time. Its instinctual.

Women want to be the one to reign in the "Playah."  Never happens but at least they get a good dicking before they settle for some boring, beta male.  Grin Grin Grin

13  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Sorry Getbig-I'm fan of Phil Heath on: July 14, 2014, 10:27:13 PM
Too soft to crack top 6. Doesnt look big enough. Will get lost in the shuffle. But he does have a good V-taper, just needs to add size, keep waist small, and come in more shredded.

Chiro, he is definitely good. No doubt but very thin. Kai would make him look like a teenager on stage. Phil rapes him every which way but Sunday. He will be a decent pro who wins mid-level shows. If Victor Martinez never won the Olympia with his genetics, this kid has no chance. Nice V taper, but next to big guys he disappears. Look at the Chicago show...he got fifth and none of the elite were there. Sorry man, he is not the one to dethrone THEGIFT.
14  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Sorry Getbig-I'm fan of Phil Heath on: July 14, 2014, 10:01:48 PM
Justin Compton. I truly believe he is the one who can do this.

GTFO....dude is a poor mans roland cziurlock. Compton is good but not even close to cracking the top six Olympia stage.
15  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Hulkster I'm calling you an Asshole and Dorian kicks Ronnie's ass And you lost on: July 03, 2014, 05:22:36 PM
I don't think we need 1,000 + pages to discuss the obvious. Ronnie was much better than Dorian.

In their prime, RC is king. Nobody had that muscle that he carried. Dorian in 1993 and maybe 1995 was close. However, nobody ever stepped on stage in the condition that RC did in 2003...nobody. Yes, his gut was big but he was huge everywhere. The freakiest package to ever come into a show bar none. None have ever approached it. Maybe Ramy will, but he is still very young. We shall see.

18  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Kai vs Phil: 2014 Mr O on: June 01, 2014, 07:09:46 PM
Wolf is not a Mr. Olympia. He has no calves and his lower back is shit. He has great lats, but the insertions are high up so he does not have that winged shape that Dorian or Ronnie had. I like Wolf and he seems like a really nice guy, but in no way will he ever be Mr. Olympia. I think the next Olympia will be a guy like McMillon or Bayeke, if he ever gets his shit together. Ramy should take a year off to polish his muscle and probably come in leaner around 270. He would be very difficult to beat at that size.

Nothing to see here folks just a fine representation of German supremacy! Cool

Lol...I have been to Germany many times. They must have looked long and hard to find five German girls who look that good. In Italy or France they are a dime a dozen. Now I have a lot of German colleagues and they are hard working and smart. However, except for the occasional Heide Klum they are not really known for their beauty. Most of the time I have nightmares of the East German female sprinters if that is what you can call them.
20  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: First images of Ben Affleck as Batman + the Batmobile. Thoughts? on: May 13, 2014, 04:13:54 PM
Bale is the man. Affleck has been riding off of his buddy Damon's cawk for years. He married a troll who has more of a GH face than most pro IFBB BB's. He is usually fat and out of shape. Moreover, he is as bland as chaffed wheat. Worst Batman call ever besides Clooney.

Unlike you I'm a huge fan of Dorian, but I disagree with you ...  Grin

PSB, I think Dorian was at his best in 1992 / 1993 / maybe 1995. However, he was rock solid in 1993. Would I take Zane's or Paris' look; hell yes. However, you have to admit he was damn good and a fantastic BB in 1993. Personally, I think Haney in his prime is the best. Imagine how big he would have gotten with GH and insulin and who knows what else todays guys are using.
25  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: One of Ronnie Coleman's biggest fans on Getbig says Dorian Yates is better on: April 21, 2014, 06:05:10 PM
A reasonable individual, not ND or Hulkster, could debate this either way. I believe a 1993 DY compares very favorably with any version of RC. Now in 2003, RC took bodybuilding to another level size wise with aesthetics and conditioning. I like the 1998-1999 RC but nobody has ever come into a contest at 286 plus pounds in that condition. He dwarfed everyone...perfect timing. The only person who may have stood next to him size wise and nearly in similar conditioning was the B&W DY pics taken before the 1993 show. Now realize B&W accentuates a figure better but it was obvious that by Mr. O day that DY was depleted somewhat from those pics and probably 255 lbs vs 270 in the pics. Regardless, they are the two giants of the last twenty years with Jay in the next tier.
