I dont like those nautilus nitro machines but great atmosphere

yeah, the equipment in the 2nd room is mostly useless
52  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Arnold at Gold's Venice earlier today. on: June 02, 2012, 12:46:22 PM
I have lifted at gyms from here to there, and I was far from impressed with the Venice Gold's. I mean, it's big and, when I was there, had many 'known" dudes about, but as a lifting facility, it's average, really.

There is a much wider variety of equipment than most gyms- especially for legs, but also for chest and shoulders
53  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Arnold at Gold's Venice earlier today. on: June 02, 2012, 11:17:48 AM
That place died its bodybuilding death years ago.

It has seen better days, but it is certainly the best gym I've ever worked out at and I've been to many gyms in my life

What was he there for? I was there this morning but didn't see him.

she has no womb .. no ovaries .. and the test showed she has 3x the amount of test than a female has .. male parts are inside

it's not fair she is allowed to be on any woman's team IMO

yeah, but she isn't a male either-

I think the average adult male has at least 10X the amount of testosterone as an adult female

Saddest thing is, whilst we in this thread are sharing distaste for current physiques,

The current generation has grown up with this, to the point that haney was a

swimmer, zane was a marathon runner and gaspari and labrada were gym rats in

their(not all, but some of the kids)  perspective...

And to think, that at a time, haney, belknap, mendenhall, king etc were monsters,

And to some "too much" already...

IMO, ud have to be blind not to notice that when the gut girth exceeds chest girth, somethings not right

I actually think that some of the younger generation is also disgusted with the current state of affairs in bodybuilding. I think most people- including young people- frown upon the guts.

It seems like things have a chance to turn around with Heath- as he is not a monstrosity like Yates or Coleman

Will the bums that live in tents behind golds get to stay?  There are some crazy mother fuckers living in those couch tents back there.

True. It has gotten so bad that I don't drive down that street any more
59  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Gold's Gym Venice is closing down? on: May 09, 2012, 10:11:36 PM
So now the official date is June 30, 2014.

The worst-kept secret at Gold’s Gym in Venice Beach is that the gym is closing its doors for good when its lease expires on June 30, 2014. With its 45 years of history, this Los Angeles landmark was once the second most popular tourist attraction in the LA area after Disneyland, but alas, times have changed and the ‘Mecca of Bodybuilding’ is slowly transforming into the Mecca of Millionaires, or ‘Silicon Beach’ in techno-blog-speak.

According to former Gold’s Gym Venice owner Ed Connors, Google has bought the building and the surrounding real estate, with grand designs on walling off the streets and creating a SoCal campus to rival its Mountain View ‘university’. If this is accurate, Gold’s Gym appears to have dropped the ball, and with undeveloped real estate (and mandatory) in the area in short supply, the death of Gold’s Venice is but a foregone conclusion.

Dennis James didnt do the 2011 Olympia

well, whatever Olympia they were showing, Dennis James looked awful
61  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Golds Gym - "The Mecca", when it really was "The Mecca" on: May 09, 2012, 07:37:54 AM
At Gold's they have installed a large video screen in the first room. Currently, they are only playing 2 videos on it- Pumping Iron and the 2011 Mr. Olympia.

It is startling the contrast of the '70s physiques to the present physiques. Things have definitely taken a dramatic turn for the worse. Guts everywhere, even on supposedly retro guys like Dexter. It is a total shame. The general public at the gym notices this too- "why does he have a belly?", etc.

The worst in terms of guts at the '11 Olympia was Dennis James- he actually looks pregnant at the show. The "powers that be" in bodybuilding can't do anything about this?
62  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Phil Heath 10 Mr olympias? on: May 07, 2012, 11:47:15 PM
Phil doesnt have a dominate physique. He is good, but he doesnt out muscle guys like Ronnie did. Kai can beat him, but like the OP said, im not sure if the IFBB wants Kai representing the sport based on his past. But he aint going to win 10.

Kucklo has the tools to dominate once he matures. I think he will has a chance to tie Ronnie and Haney

I'm not familiar with Kai's background. What are the details of his checkered past?

All petty bullshit aside, it's sad to be reading a dead man's posts like this.. Feels eerie.

Yes, quite a "sport" this is
64  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Flex Wheeler - 1999 Gym Photoshoot - PICS!!! on: May 06, 2012, 10:46:34 AM
Combination of his kidney failure and high dosages of Jintropin that Venice was flooded with in 99, all the bruthas seemed to get that grey sort of look on it.

What is Jintropin?
65  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Luke Wood Gains 50lbs in 3 Months (pics) on: May 06, 2012, 10:43:01 AM
Yep, pretty awful. I have no idea why anybody would pursue bodybuilding as a career.
66  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: LeBron should win his first title this year on: April 28, 2012, 11:22:13 PM
They should have won last season and should be the favorites this season, but we'll just have to wait and see. LeBron played great against the Celtics and Bulls last playoffs and then inexplicably became passive against the Mavs. If he and his supporting cast fully assert themselves, they should win
67  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: how many pros have "fried"/lost their kidneys? on: April 28, 2012, 12:10:26 PM
Most of the guys from the '60s and '70s made it through okay, correct? It is only the modern era with all of the cocktails of gear that have led to this it seems
68  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Re: Leg work out without squats on: April 27, 2012, 06:57:22 AM
What are reverse hacks?  Are you talking about going face down in a hack squat machine?  TBH, that seems like you would be just doing a front squat....

I loved squatting...i felt like I grew more in the days when I could get away with 3 - 4 sets of squats, the leg press, then 3 - 4 sets of leg curls.  Then go home.

Now, the knees take so long to warm up so I end up doing something like this...

Leg Ext - 20, 15, 15, 12
Hack - 4 x 15 - 20
THEN squat 3 x 12

Yes, reverse hacks means facing the machine- so basically a front squat. I've really liked those since I incorporated them into my leg workouts a few months ago
69  Getbig Main Boards / Gossip & Opinions / Leg work out without squats on: April 26, 2012, 07:56:11 PM
For whatever reason, I've always felt like squats are not the best leg exercise for me. Long ago I gave up on them- I think I don't do them with proper form and have always felt that leg presses, hacks, reverse hacks, and various squat machines give me a better leg workout. However, I still envy those guys that can step under the squat rack and handle some heavy poundages. It motivated me to start doing squats again last year, but I started to injure my lower back (old injury from about 10 years ago re-surfaced).

So, do you guys think you can get a great leg workout with squats or is in the lack of squats in a leg workout insurmountable as a flaw? Opinions?

I never heard that Fletcher had become ill. When did that happen?
