Bigbobs
I had the pleasure of spending time with Nasser several times over the past 10 years and I agree that the most important thing to note is that Nasser has died. Not that it is anyone's business but I believe the reason why so many people want to know the cause of death is because many of us have taken plenty of PED's and so when a brother in iron passes away we want to know if the sports technology was the culprit or if it was from some other cause so that some of us can perhaps slep better at night. Regardless of the cause of death the passing of Nasser is indeed sad.

I am a full blown comic book geek and I gotta say that I thought The Amazing Spiderman was awesome!!!! I saw it in 3D and it was well worth the extra $$$. This new kid who plays Peter Parker is outstanding. I saw it last night and will see if again while it in the theatre.

A moment of silence is nice but what will be done going forward to better minimize the risk of having this happen again? Nearly every competitor on stage is dehydrated and the difference between being healthy on stage and being near death is a razor thin margin. Several years ago I had nearly the same outcome as Steve. After the prejudging of another show, I started cramping, having abdominal bloating, slurred speech and fuzzy vision. I knew I was too dehydrated and could not get down water fast enough. Knowing what was going on a family member rushed me to an urgent care where I got I.V. fluids.
As I was being rushed in an ambulance to the emergency room the paramedic told me that had I come in even an hour later that I would have suffered total internal organ failure and died. Like anyone who steps on stage we each take accountability for what we have choosen to do to get in this sort of condition this however does not exonerate those who run the shows from taking precaution and consideration for the competitors. If the NPC mandates the presense of an EMT on site at shows then the promoter of this show has accountability for what happened. The cost of an EMT could be easily afforded considering the massive number of people who pay to compete at shows like this.

The Wallmart analogy is spot on! La Fitness is exactly that!! The LA Fitness that just opened is HUGE and most the equipment is crap. I trained for a year at an LA Fitness and prepared for 2 shows there and all the while I hated it. Health clubs are great if you are looking to kinda workout and have social hour with a bunch of strangers but a terrible environment if you are really trying to get in shape.

g-thang, I can appreciate that no business can survive if they cater to the 1%. The membership of my gym is mostly normal people but they all take training seriously. The gym population is a combination of housewives, MMA fighters, powerlifters, bodybuilders, business execs etc. What sucks is that there really are so few people who really enjoy and realize the value of training hard. The simple truth is that America is getting lazzier and good gyms are dying because of this. The fitness clubs are smart as they market to the fat and lazy masses. The same arguement can be made for restraunts and food. My neighborhood has hundreds of unhealthy dining options but only a few places to get a healthy and nutritious meal and this is mostly because the average American is a fat ass and prefers to eat crap.

GH-15 you are exactly right. There are so few real gyms around and that has to do with how incredibly lazy the average american is. The way I see it a place like LA Fitness is for the average person who doesn't really want to train hard or put in much effort into getting in shape. To the jackass who asked if I can lift a 100lb dumbell the answer is yes..easily. Big Ach...years ago I trained at an LA Fitness in preparation for a few shows as it was the only gym around and while I am able to get in a good workout there it really is not the type of environment for people who are serious about training.
The advent of these fitness clubs and the death of real gyms in America is a sign of the times. So few people want to actually work hard at anything and consequently achieve very little. For the record...yes I am venting.

So I just found out that my gym is closing down due to a loss of business to the opening of a gigantic LA Fitness down the street!! My gym is one of the very last hardcore gyms in my county and the only hardcore gym within reasonable driving distance. The LA Fitness is a gym for pussies...no dumbells over 100lbs, no squat cages, no deadlifting allowed, no steel plates or dumbells and jam packed with dipshits. Does anyone else here feel my pain?

I have to say that I have had a chance to spend time with Jay on and off over the years and he is a huge son of a bitch. His shoulder width in particular is insane. So while I can appreciatte that while his health is not impressive that his mass and width are. I am 5'8 and he is taller than me so I do think he is 5'10. That said most bodybuilders are 5'10 and under.

Flex was amazing, no doubt about it. One of the best ever. That said Phil is a whole different sort of animal. Flex was amazing from the front and had a crazy rear double biceps. From the front Flex was never as hard and dry as Heath and from the back Phil's lat spread would smoke Flex all day long, not to mention that from the waist down Phil destroys Flex. Flex's calves were so obviously site injected and his hams/glutes were never peeled.

Phil would DESTROY Flex Wheeler. Flex's condition was best when he was in the 220's this is right around the time he turned pro. At that weight he would be dwarfed by Phil. When Flex got bigger he never was able to get his ham/glutes conditioned. Flex was an amazing bodybuilder and I have seen him in person and onstage several times, The Phil Heath I saw on Friday/Saturday would OWN Flex.

Just got back from pre judging and Evan was the clear winner. He owned Dexter in the back shots. Faoud (spelling?)should have been in 2nd, Wolf in 3rd and Dexter in 4th. Dexter has a great build but when he is not peeled he is just not as impressive. Evan and Faoud were the 2 best conditioned guys on stage all day long.

Eating healthy has more to do with the quality of your life. If you have two people who live to 90years old, one who does so all while eating and living healthy and the other who is a gluton the question raised is who enjoyed their life more? If you eat junk food or generally speaking are a gluton your reward is the pleasure of eating but most likely at the cost of being obese. If you eat healthy your reward is a body that looks, feels and functions better and the consequence is not being able to overindulge. To eah their own. Eating like crap is easy which is why so much of the world is obese. Eating healthy requires discipline and I am finding that skill is becoming more and more scarce.
