Thinking about the North American Union and the strange/unexpected support for it made me curious, are you opposed to the European Union?
I'll assume the context of the discussion is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_UnionWell I'm not sure, personally I think Canada, US, Mexico operate most efficiently as independent states.
Of course I don't have any details of how the economies, lifestyle, social aspects etc of the countries would change under a union other than what pro-union groups provide (which of course aren't facts and this info is bias).
Maybe it would be great, maybe they could get it right and make the union linked directly to economics and not to legislative issue which dogs the EU.
One thing to not is the small size of the theoretical NAU, 3 countries. The fact that there are a lot more countries in the EU makes things more difficult and complicated. Everyone in the EU wants to be heard, wants their say on laws, and rightfully so.
From a US standpoint the negative effects of the Union would be minimal, because lets face it, the US would carry more legislative weight due its more powerful economy etc.
I'm vehemently against the EU. It's a joke of an organisation. Economically the free market should be in place, but why should the EU laws cover all the individual nations? It's a mess. The "non" vote in France and the Netherlands just proves it. France being the ultra-pro-EU voted NO in the referendum.
Like I said, I don't know what the economic relationship is between the US and Mexico, I'd have to research it, and frankly I'm too busy to do so ATM. I know they're healthy and open between Canada/US, so judging from what I know, a Union should be ignored for now.
In the minds of the top dogs in the White House it probably all comes down to being competitive with China
