Interesting Testosterone Study
« on: November 02, 2006, 12:39:59 PM »
HEALTH DAY NEWS - The testosterone-fueled American male may be losing his punch. Over the past two decades, levels of the sex hormone in U.S. men have been falling steadily, a new study finds. . . The reasons for this trend are unclear, said researchers at the New England Research Institutes in Waterdown, Mass. They noted that neither aging nor certain other health factors, such as smoking or obesity, can fully explain the decline. . . Testosterone is the primary male sex hormone and plays an important role in maintaining bone and muscle mass. Low testosterone levels have been linked to health problems, including lowered libido and diabetes. It's normal for men's testosterone levels to peak in their late 20s and then start to gradually decline, experts say. But this study found that overall testosterone levels are lower than they were 20 years ago. "In 1988, men who were 50 years and older had higher serum testosterone concentrations than did comparable 50-year-old men in 1996. This suggests that some factor other than age may be contributing to the observed declines in testosterone over time," Travison said.

Here is a bit more detailed article that explains testing and age groups more

I sometimes hear natural test production is highest in teens and other times in later 20's early 30's, which is it?

I read this elsewhere as well.  Its because in recent culture, its more accepted and encouraged for males to be metrosexual.  This is against a lot on men's instincts and nature.  We are needed as much to protect and provide for our families as it once was.  Besides athletics, male aggression of any kind is stiffled.  That goes against nature.  People can bitch, complain and whine but an angry or agressive tone or act is nearly punishable by death.  Overwhelming aggression and violence is bad for the culture, of course...but the pendulum has swung too far the other way IMO.

I completely disagree with that.

It's all becuase of diet and the lack of healthy fats that help stimulate and support testosterone production.

Agreed.  BUT I also think this lower test has something to do with the meat we eat and the hormones given to the cattle.  Getting all this from such a young age must affect us somehow...

I do stick to organic meat as much as possible - since most of us here eat more than our share - it may be a good idea...
