Does the world championship winner get an invitation for the O or just a pro card??

shows the overall winners for previous years (they didn't announce an overall winner every year).    if you click on the names you'll see that not all turn pro, and those who do take a few years to get to the Olympia.

Every of the 8 weight classes should actually get a pro card, but I think it's only the overall winner.

Pro cards are only given when a competitor competed in at least 2 IFBB international competitions and has approval from his/her own national IFBB federation. You always need to get approval from your national federation, also when you win the Overall at a amateur Worldchampionship.

In the 80's it was the rule that when you won the overall at the amateur World you were invited to compete at the Olympia but that is no longer. The overall winner can turn pro but has to qualify like all the other pro's to compete in the Olympia.

The last athlete who took advantage of the rule which says that the overall winner of the world championships has an invitation for the Olympia was Ahmad Haidar in 1997. Shortly after that the rule was abolished.

Your wrong Dennis Wolf won World's last year and received his pro card. He also qualified and competed in the Olympia this year.

I am not wrong Dennis Wolf qualified for the Mister Olympia by placing 3th at the Santa Susanna Grand Prix. In order to get pro status in germany you have to make a top5 finish at your class at either the european or world championships and win the german nationals in the same year.
A few years back, the german nationals overall winner could ask for a pro card as competing at an international competition was not required, but it was changed afterwards. Markus Ruhl for instance never competed at an european or world championship but was given a pro card as he won his class at the german championships back in 1997.

Probably an exception or maybe he competed before in an International competition other than the Europeans or the Worlds but again of course can a federation make an exception for an exceptional competitor, who is it?

Lytle Daron won this year the belgium nationals overall and got a pro card. Like I mentioned before, Markus Ruhl got his pro card in 1997 and never competed at an internatinal amateur contest.

How to get a pro card??

If you get a recommendation by your local federation you will get a pro card no matter what the circumstances are. 

Usually who ever wins the over all in the world CS gets offered a pro card.  Then it is up to his federation to accept or decline. 

Yousif al-zain (Lebanon) failed the drug test and got a pro card
Tamer el-shahat failed the drug test in the IFBB, went to musclemania and then got a pro card

Kamal Abdul salam got a pro card cause he won the NABBA Mr. Universe the was offered an IFBB pro card.  Did the NOC in 03 but didn’t place then he turned back to an armature.

Shahat Mabrook turned pro in 87 cause he won his Weight class then did couple of grand prixes and did do well so he converted back to an armature. 

Shawn Ray got a special invitation to the O in 03 although he didn’t qualify.  Alex Federov got a special invitation to the O in 04 while he wasn’t a pro yet

So the bottom line is there is no strict rule for being a pro or doing the O.  If they (IFBB) want you they will get you a pro card and a special invitation to the O.  Disregard if you fail the test, go to another fed, get arrested for dug dealing, posing for gay purposes or any violation to the IFBB constitution.
