BMW 3 series
« on: November 20, 2006, 07:36:44 PM »
I just went to the International Auto show yesterday so I'm in a car mood . . . and I know there are a few BMW fans here so I thought I'd share pix of the new 3 series convertible.  :)

I have a 3 series, for no other reason than I prefer there shape and size over the 5 and 8's. The old 635 csi's are my favourite, someday I'll get one :)

Thanks for sharing

Yesterday, I went to the international Auto Show and in the back of my mind was one question: where does one go after the BMW 3 series?  I expect to retire my 3 series in the next few months, but where do you go after driving a car like that?  :-\

The new turbo 3 series is a beautiful piece of machinery. I cannot wait for the v8 m3. Another one of the greatest cars of all time. The new m5 is also an amazing car. BMW makes spectacular cars.

Yes, my market director for my old company had a 635 and it was awesome.  Very stylish and sleek.

Ditto.
I can't believe that the 335 (sedan and coupe) are as fast as the outgoing M3 (0-60 in 4.8 secs)!! Faster than a Mustang GT witha 300 HP V8, and almost as quick as the Mustang Shelby with 500 HP.
The V8 M3 has to beat the M3 CSL's time and the RS4's time (4.5 and 4.2, respectively).

I have seen spy video of it being tested in the US in th desert somewhere. And some lucky bastard  pulled up and was asking questions of the driver late at night in a US city, They had the coupe and convertible

I actually like the BMW 1 series - it's the smallest one of the lot but they look like pretty neat cars - I'm thinking of getting one after my Vauxhall packs in.

I don't like the 3 series. They suck in my opinion.

I'd prefer a decent Benz anyways over every BMW.  ;D

Too true. A lot of people have BMWs for the name only and they're the shitty 318is. I'd prefer a Lexus or a good Audi compared to an overpriced turd like that. Wishlist would be a Merc though.

We are talking about m3's and m5's. There is no merc sedan at the same price that can touch the two of those. The amg's in the same price range are a joke compared to the new v10 M5. The new M5 is almost as fast as a 355 Ferrari. It is being hailed as one of the greatest cars ever in the automotive world. The m3 has been the pinnacle of sports sedans for decades. Not even close. They are the bench mark of there class. A lexus is not even in the same leauge as an m3. M3's are performance machines. A lexus is a faker. All show and no go. The Audi is VERY nice. But it is a M3 rip off with all wheel drive. I drove one. Not as good as the M3. The 3 series is a legend. Btw the base model merc's comparable to the base three series are being called the cheapest benzes off all times. They are actually a little worse than the base 3's imo. They are however better looking carts in base form than the beemers. The new 3 series turbo coupe is stunning. Have you ever driven either?

haha, that's what i mean.

I see a lot of 5-10 year old 318is around with young guys trying to play the mack daddy over here.

Audi has great cars, too. i'd prefer an A4 over a 3 every day.

Nothing beats the Benz though.  ;D

Yeah and for every old 318 you still see running you see some old ass letter series benz with chrome rims and some "baller" driving it.  Rust for days.

Mmm, might be different in the states then.

Over here, the 'gangsta'-ride is a BMW.

Fuck old cars. Only new cars are good, even if it's an american car.

I felt very comfortable in the previous generation 5 but the current 5 series doesn’t work for me. I feel cramped in there and the ergonomics don’t work for me.  It’s too bad… At one point I was looking forward to moving up to that car.  No more.

I think this 3 series is my last BMW.  I like the X5, but it’s too expensive and for such a big vehicle its interior room is less than one would expect.  :(

A 3 is too small.  I drive a 745i.  If I wanted a convertable, I'd get a 6-series. Those 3's are smaller than a Honda Civic.

Really? Here in the US all the rappers show they have made it with a big benz. Hence all the thugs and crack dealers buying them when they get cash. If people cannot afford new ones (which most poverty stricken people obv cannot) they buy really old ones and make them "ghetto fabulous". Huge chrome wheels, old ass body kit etc etc. I guess it is reversed over here. Don't get me wrong I love merc's. They are a great choice if performance is not the main factor. When I was speaking of the m5 and m3 I was using that as the main argument in my post. Performance wise BMW makes the better car. Looks wise I would give it to the Benz. Quality would go to the beemer with the slight edge imo. Benz's have slipped in the last few years quality wise(in the lower brackets of the merc line). Still way above the average car but for them they have slipped a bitfrom what I have seen. Years ago they where the pinnicle of quality. They are still very good just not as good as they where before imo

The big amg benzes are where mercedes really shines. I agree that the big 500 benzes are better than the 7 series cars. The high end, big sedans is where Mercedes is king. The brabus rocket is a sick merc.

Yes, brabus rocks. brabus is about 40km from my place and i have seen them everywhere in the world.

AMG and brabus make a benz even better.

As for BMW, i like the 6 series, the Z4 and especially the Z8. That's a beautiful car. For me, the M3 and M5 aren't very special, i don't like them. Don't know why.
