implants: over or under the muscle?
« on: December 08, 2006, 07:46:11 AM »
I have some questions for those of you who have breast implants, or experience with them. thinking of going bigger & looking for some input.
sorry boys, touching them isn't the kind of experienced input I'm looking for.  ;)

are yours over the muscle or under, and why?

saline or silicone?

thanks ladies!

OHHHH...i want some info toooooo. :D

I really like the size I've gotten from the pregnancy, and I know they will deflate as soon as I stop breastfeeding.  Bob and I have been talking about it...for after the little one gets here.  I am also afraid they will fall...i like them high and tight!!  They were great before the baby...I want to make sure they stay that way....just bigger!  I'm lovin my DD's!!

Cheri...

What were your experiences after having your babies?  Yours look great......sorry, I wasn't looking at Rocky in the bossom picture you posted ::)

There are a lot of answers to your questions msbarbelle.  Over or under ... depends on what look you are looking for and whether or not you are a bbing competor.   Under the muscle will definitely look more natural even dieted down, but are a more painful recovery.  Over the muscle is less painful recovery but look like melons strapped to your chest when lean (some even when you're not so lean, depending on size of implant)

saline vs silicone.  I have saline.  If you burst a bag with saline it is dispersed through your body and not toxic.  Silicone does not disperse in the same manner and is a geletin like matter.  Can be hard to remove if it bursts.  Not to mention there are so many problems with people alergic to silicone (I'm sure you read the stories), but please be warned even "saline" implants are made out of silicone, so you are not absolutely silicone free.

My experience has been great.  Prior to having my kids I was always a large C cup.  I had my kids and during/directly after childbirth I was DD.  Oh yeah those were some big boobies, lol.  After years of carrying that size and then dropping down 30 pounds (yes, 30 pounds) my breast dropped back down to a C.  I didn't like them and always felt like they were too small (ya...C was too small, lol), anyway I decided I wanted them back up to a D or DD but this time without getting fat so I got the implants.  :)  Am I happy?  You betcha!!!  ;D

Good question! I have been wondering about that myself. Pondering implants, considering under but how long is that recovery??? What does a "lift" do??

"lift" = lifts them off the ground so they don't drag behind ya anymore when you walk

A lift removed the extra skin.  Usually they make an incision around the areola and make a kinda anchor style incision below the areola.  The remove the extra tissue (skin) and replace the areola up a little higher than it was.  And walla, perky new boobies.

Recovery time for under the muscle 6 weeks out of the gym and about 6 months for full recovery.

Thanks for the info Cheri....

I guess I will see how "perky" my girls get once the breastfeeding is over with.  If they arent...well its implant city.  If they are...I will keep myself "all-natural"

Well, my suggestion is to decide "after" you have made the decision to have no more children.  ;)

I breast fed and don't regret it at all, my daughter skipped a lot of infant illnesses (ear infections, etc.) and my "baby weight" came off in no time flat.

Yeah it does hurt like all hell, feels like torture in the begining (trick is to toughen up nipples a couple of months out). What makes me cringe though is going under the knife! I heard that you lose sensation in your nipples, is that true?

Jeez...thanks Cheri!  Just when I think all the pain will go away as soon as she is born.  THERES MORE!!!
What causes the pain?  Is it the sucking itself, or when they get teeth?  I only plan on doing it until she goes to cereal (about 4 -5 mos)

I am so glad these babies are worth all of this pain.  I am on the cusp of miserable right now...but I tell myself, I've made it 8 1/2 months...whats 3 more weeks.

get silicone under the muscle.  As far as the silicone leaking and being harder to remove, i's not really an issue.  the silicone issticky but sticksreally only to itself and not to body tissue.  silicone does not wrinkle the way that saline does and has a better feel IMO.  for saline not to wrinkle the often times have to slightly over fill the implant.  As far as losing sensation, that depends on the doctor more than anything else.  Also, the manner in which you get the implant implpanted matters.  You can go through the nipple, obviously more risky when talking about losing senstationand seeing a visible scar.  Then tyou have the implant through the crease on the underside of the breast.  the scar is still visible.  The is the axillary way, through the armpit.  a good way, scar is less visible, but make sure that you have a surgeon that has done this  anumber of times.  Also the last method ad the best way to conceal any and all scars is though the belly button.  Obvioulsy this is more drastic but yeild great results.

It was the sucking.  They have some powerful suction power, lol.  I stopped after a week, it was too much.  Plus, and this is a riot, remember when I said I ballooned up to a DD?  I was breastfeeding, holding the baby on my lap and under my left arm and doing something with my right (maybe flipping through a magazine?) and anyway all of a sudden, my son stiffened up straight and pulled himself back and took a big breath....I didn't realize this but my boob was too big and squashing his little nose.  :(

Only for a couple months (if they go through the nipple).  :)

I don't understand why anyone would go through the nipple?   ???  My nipples can stay where they are, TYVM!!!   You ever see the plastic surgey shows "now we sew the nipple back on"    :o

You can't even see the scar under the breast.   And who is really looking there?  ::)

I went under the muscle but may go over next time if when I go bigger.  It is more painful healing wise under from what others have said who have had both.  Maybe it wouldn't be so bad the second time though?

I don't think it will be as painful for you flower because the muscle tissue has already been separated. ;)

And I have saline.  Like Laura said, I don't trust silicone.  But I would look into that new chohesive (?) silicone though.  Usually first timers have to go saline I believe.

they silicone hs been used for quite some time and mostly in reconstructive impnats for cancaer patients.  the silicone used now is safe and like i said if it were to leak sticks to itself.  as for the under the breast scar, unless you had a great closer as a surgeon, you can see the scar.

that is the cohesive gel I mentioned.

You can hardly see my scars, but since they do it in the crease under the breast you have to look for it, unlike cutting your nipples off which are right there (and probably what is looked at more  :P )    so I will take the minor scars over possible loss of nipple sensation (or even having to know they were off and sitting on a tray somewhere)

like i said you had a good closer as a  surgeon.  but it is still visible.  true, i think going through the nipple is easier but not worth the risk of losing sensation.  Again it depends on the surgeon.

migs are you a plastic surgeon??? or do you just know a lot?  ;) good info either way, thanks!
looking to go DD from borderline c/d. I have over the muscle saline now. had it in my head that it would interfere with muscle development if I went under. plus the fear that somehow muscle on top would 'smoosh' the implant & maybe pop it. true or not, that was my thought. since silicone was just approved, I wondered if any of the gals had that type & how they like them.
again, thanks for all the good info!

no i'm not a plastic surgeon, however it was a field of study i was going to pursue in my school days.  I know quite a few doctor's and my ex has silicone implants.  To pop an implant takes a considerable amount of force. I believe the thinnest celled implant needs more than a 1000 pounds of pressure before rupturing and this again was the thinnest shell.  As a reference, a mammogram is about 30 pounds of pressure.  they also tested the implants with cycle fatigue methods and again the chances of rupture were very slim.  an example would be say hard running with the largest available implant.  tests showed that it would take over 6.5 million runs before an implant would show any signs of fatigue.  Again my ex, had silicone implants and had them impanted through her underarm.  Personally, I prefer the feel of silicone impants to saline as well as the loof of them.  Going DD is a big step from where you are, and without seeing body style its hard to say either way.  However, in my expereince women that undergo breast impants often go witha  size that is conservative and later regret not going larger.  Just make sure that you really research your doctor and good luck.  Also, silicon has been used in reconstructive suregery for CANCER patients and has been shown to be safe for some time now.  Again, it's yor choice and those that have saline are happy with them.  IMO silicone is better.
