Control my cravings
« on: January 17, 2007, 03:32:16 PM »
Anyone have any tips on how to help control my sugar cravings?
On the days when I go low carb I have extreme cravings by the end of the day.  I do fine during the day but by the time I get to my last meal, I'm struggling.  It doesn't feel like hunger pains though, I can control those.  This is different
The best I found for me is either drink a lot of water or some milk- both of which bloat my stomach and make me feel full.
There has to be a better plan.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Eat more complex carbs.

Drink green tea (without sugar of course) and add some cinnamon to your meals. (either capped or with cottage cheese etc.)

This might sound fucked up... But when I get hungry when I shouldn't be I try and give my self that worried feeling in my stomach like something bad is going to happen.  It works pretty good.  That might not be a healthy thing to do though?  :o

Eat small meals every three hours or so, if you are not already doing that.  Also, add more fiber to your diet.  Fiber decreases sugar cravings.  Another thing is to eat sugar free Jello and drink diet soda or crystal light.

i have actually done this, it worked but only briefly.
i thought about starting a fight with the wife but there are bigger repercussions that come with that.    ;D

i am eating the small meals.  i never heard fiber will decrease cravings, i will definately try/need that.  i'm pooping 20 grit sand paper as it is.   :'(
i eat more sugar free jello than one man should be allowed to.  the pudding is off the hook.
never thought of crystal light either.

THANKS FELLOWS FOR ALL YOUR ADVICE!

Actually, the trick is to keep your blood sugar levels normal, then your cravings will go away.  The things that keep your blood sugar levels normal have already been mentioned above, cinnamon, fiber, complex carbs, protein, healthy fats, small frequent meals, etc.

the only things i am not doing as mentioned is more fiber and cinnamon.  is there a magic number on the amount of cinnamon, should i add it to every meal??

It doesn't take much cinnamon, just 3/4 tsp to a whole 1 tsp.  Spread it out through the day.  Add a little bit to your oat meal, coffee, protein shakes, etc.

that's easy enough.

add some more flavor-flav to the protein shakes.
