The Welterweight Divison - Where does Margarito go from here?
« on: August 04, 2008, 04:44:56 PM »
As I see it right now, without a doubt the most exciting fight would be him versus Floyd Mayweather, even Max Kellerman basically called Mayweather out before the Judah - Clottey fight saying that there is alot of people saying that Mayweather can't beat Margarito, I don't know if that is true or not but it would be a hell of a fight.

Oscar de la Hoya is also an option and could be the biggest moneymaker of all current welterweight contenders. I have a problem with this one though because who has de la Hoya really beaten lately, he is just relying on his reputation from nearly a decade ago and his name recognition. Regardless I think de la Hoya could end up taking on the lighter weight Manny Pac, and I also think the Manny could give him huge problems even at 140 to 147 lbs.

I believe the most deserving fighter would be Paul Williams, whom has already beaten Margarito and who has the best chance of beating him at Welterweight right now because of his height and reach.

A couple others that could be mentioned is a rematach with Cotto, which I think Cotto would want to get another one or two fights in before getting back in the ring and even then after what we seen the other night I wouldn't think it would bode well for him.

Also, Joshua Clottey could be another one that fits the bill he did go the distance with Margarito which is more than what an undefeated Cotto did.

Mosley would be a good choice also.

I think Margs only threat is PWill, who can match him with volume and condition. Mayweather will unretire after all of these guys beatup on each other.

This would be the best way for Oscar De La Hoya to retire, but he doesn't have the balls to fight Tony.  He throughing out names like Mora, Pacman and Jones Jr.  Margrito's practically begged Oscar for a fight, but Oscar is plainly scared of Tony after watching him dismantle Cotto.

I think Andre Berto is the next logical choice for a "fight of interest" @ 147,I'd be real surprised if Berto dos'nt mow down Stevie Forbes pretty easily in that upcoming fight, and that'll also give P Will a chance to look impressive (against who ever) to set the stage for a big fight later down the road

I believe the best fight they can put together would be Mayweather-Margarito. Berto isn't ready yet. He hasn't faced a fighter of Margarito's caliber yet. Mosely and De La Hoya are on the way out. I don't think either one of them has enough left in the tank to beat Margarito. I haven't seen enough of Paul Williams to say anything about him. Which leaves Mayweather. If the money is right Mayweather will fight. Its my belief that he wouldn't fight Margarito in the past because they only offered 8 million. Mayweather is deservedly an 8 figure a fight fighter. He was the pound for pound king and was only offered 7 figures which wasn't worth it. He's saying he's retired, but I think he'll fight for the right price. $20 mil. You heard it here first. 8)
