Question to the Colemaniacs
« on: February 01, 2007, 04:59:37 AM »
Has Ronnie Coleman been able to bring up his calves during all those years training? If you compare early photos with more recent ones?

In the occasional picture, his calves look oddly huge, but no, not really.

Calves are mostly genetics, you either have them or you don't. Not much improvement can be made

during the summer you see people that have never worked out in their lives with huge calves.  Then in the gym you see a ton of huge guys spending days on the calves raise machine with minimal return.
Here comes the money shot

Ronnie's calves did increase in size (overall) as his competition bodyweight steadily went up from 1999 - 2004, but unfortunately, he has some of the worst genetics for shape, separation and muscle length for calves, which is why they looked decent when he was wearing full-length tights, but less than stellar onstage or when exposed.

good post.  It's rare to find a black dude with good calves, shawn ray and vince taylor are the exceptions.  Ron is a gigantic guy but his calves blow but I remember reading that he trains them with short choppy movements so i'm sure that doesn't help any.

I had no calves then i changed everything about my calf training and they're "decent" not great but much better than when I started.  It's my opinion that the majority of guys put alot of effort into calves but they just train them wrong, if you tweak a few things you can make your calve training much more effective.
