
They call him 'Super Tonio', a new-born baby who weighs in at an enormous 14.5lbs and is causing a sensation.
People living in the Mexican resort of Cancun have been crowding round the windows of a hospital nursery ward to catch sight of 'little' Antonio Vasconcelos, who was born by Caesarean section on Monday.
He measures 22 inches in length and drinks five ounces of milk every three hours.
"We haven't found any abnormality in the child, there are some signs of high blood sugar, and a slight blood infection, but that is being controlled so the child can get on with his normal life in a few more days," said hospital director Narciso Perez Bravo.
According to Guinness World Records, the heaviest baby born to a healthy mother was a boy weighing 22lbs 8ozs, in Aversa, Italy, in September 1955.In Brazil, a baby born in January, 2005, in the city of Salvador weighed 16lbs 11ozs at birth.
Antonio's mother Teresa Alejandra Cruz, 23, says she is proud of the boy.
The birth came seven years after she had a baby girl who weighed 11.46lbs.
"It's good, because now we'll have a pair of big babies," said father Luis Vasconcelos.
