Americans dominating WC swimming?
« on: March 28, 2007, 03:47:49 AM »
Phelps has already won 3 golds, broke 2 WR.
Broke the 200 m butterfly record by more than 1,5 seconds!

Laure manadou seems to be the female version of phelps. Broke the 200 m free stroke by a second.

A 14 yo girl, Emily Emily Seebohm (Austr.) got 4th in the 100 m backstroke!

To do what phelps is doing is unbeleavable - he also broke ian thorpes record in the 200m free which everybody thought would stand for a long long time, it was like the michael johnson 200m record of athletics, or so they thought. I can honestly say there has been nothing like phelps before in swimming - and i do know the sport as i competed in the 1994 world champs myself

Cool.

Yeah, he crushed his opponents in the 200 m free.
What style/distance did you swim and what do you prefer? How was the result?

When i was young i used to swim. I was pretty talented but i didn't like to put in a lot of hours so i quit it.
Now i feel blessed that i can swim well, it really is nice once you get decent at it. I prefer crawl.

Swimming is a very tough sport in terms of the amount of training that is required - you are looking at around 5 hours swimming per day and an hour to an hour and a half in the gym - so 6-7 hours training a day, 6 days a week at the top level. My event was 200m butterfly - the one phelps just uncorked that amazing world record in

Another world record for phelps - 1:54:9 in the 200 IM - unbeleivable. In terms of sheer ability, this guy must rank up there in the best athletes of all time - mark spitz won 7 olympic gold medals but the world standard and strength in depth was nowhere near what it is today !!

well, hes won the 100 fly, that was the event most likely to stop him winning 8 gold medals - dont see anything stopping him now !!

6 golden already.
Not bad at all.

Too bad he can't win (and maybe never will) the 100 m freestyle, the king's event.

I think he will evengtually mate, he lead off the usa 4x100 free relay in 48.4, and 48.4 won the 100 free, now that ven den hoogenband is gettin past it there aint any standout athletes in that event. p.s. crocker went too early in the heats of the relay and the usa got disqualified and fucked up phelps chances of 8 gold haha  :)

Lol. Yeah, that must suck.
Still, he's got 7. It ain't that bad  ;D.
Watched him destroy another WR by 2 seconds. He really is a specimen.

Pulse of 40 in rest, 1m93 / 84 kg and his muscles break down lactic acid extremely fast.
