needing an alternative
« on: April 14, 2007, 05:25:47 PM »
not an alternative training or equipment or exercises. i just need an alternative to all that food and supplements. i'd love to eat the steak and eggs and drink the protein shakes but i simply can't afford them right now. i'm just wondering if i should try to find a sponsor or maybe just get a small personal loan. idk what do you guys suggest.

bucket of whey is cheaper than food - get it by the case and have 3 a day.

Dozen eggs - $1.39 and is one or two meals.

you can get a 3 pound package of top round at Sams Club for 11 bucks, that's 5 red meat meals right there, you can't afford that?

Eat lots of bread it has loads of calories. Buy whole milk, cottage, cheese, oatmeal, tuna, eggs, sardines and the such.

There is no point in asking for a loan just to ge the most expensive crap. You can grow plenty with hard work at the gym.

I try to stay away from sausages, but I can remember getting itialina sausage and pepper sandwiches at the jersey shore with my dad, they were amazing. but italian hotdogs with the roasted peppers in the round italian bread is one of my favs, no one sells them here. Some losers that rent a stand try to sell them at fairs, their like IRish, I mean I like Irish people but they cant make ITalian hotdogs.

Im also a  spagehttie and meatballs man with plain tomatoe sauce no other crap, just tomaotes and some basil. mmmmmmmm

Tuna, kidney beans, eggs from Smart & Final or similar "bulk store", ground beef, non-fat milk, and protein powder (many are now availble for 5lbs @$20). Carbs? rice, pasta, potatos, oatmeal. IMO, it's tough for anyone to eat any cheaper than by utilizing those foods.

exactly, my protein foods for the week cost me 65-70 bucks and the carbs maybe 10 bucks, a bag of potatoes is 3 bucks, a big box of rice costs 3 bucks and a couple of boxes of pasta is around 4 bucks.

:) Exactly. All you need are some decent spices/sauces/salsa to make everything taste good. I think it's fairly easy to go under $100 per week and still have a very strong diet.

If you want to make cheap ground beef a little leaner; after it's cooked, rinse it with boiling hot water which will wash away a lot of the fat (and no - no protein gets washed away)  ;)

food is pretty cheap as long as you don't buy the foofy overpriced organic shit.   When I buy grociers I get enough food to last me a week for around $40.  My wife on the other hand will goto whole foods and come with with enough food for a week and spends $200.  If you want cheap food buy the following.

Kroger brand Carb Masters Yogart - 39 cents each ( 12g protien, 1.5 g fat.  3 carbs )
Eggs
Kroger brand tuna 54 cents each
extra large bottle of salad dressing ( to cover up the taste of tuna )
Bag of extra large potatoes ( 20lbs is about $5 )
Water from the kitchen sink ( or if you are really broke from your neighbors faucet )
as a last resort if you really need just food.  buy a couple cases of beef flavored romain, and if you can afford it some cheap butter to add some flavor.

Supplements are generally overpriced.  Search Ebay for Deals. There used to be a guy on there who sold boxes of expired protien bars.  I bought 100 bars for $15.  Normally they cost $3 each.  Didn't taste any different then the new ones.
