A thought about protein digestion
« on: May 01, 2007, 05:18:18 AM »
During the day (at the office unfortunately  :'() I usually consume 2 servings of tuna steak (canned in water) which I drain and eat as is, with about half a lemon squeezed on it.

I do this twice during my working hours, which along with a couple of small cartons of semi fat milk, gives me around 150g of protein at work. (as well as my main lunch meal which has around 50g of protein)

What I have noticed is that as soon as I am finishing eating the tuna, my body tells me it wants something sweet so I usually grab a handful of candy or something.

I think that my body realises I need something to help with protein digestion, so it tells me to eat something sweet.

Do you reckon having a small amount of dextrose after each can of tuna will have any benefit?

Forgive me if I sound dumb, but I just eat lift and shit. I'm no expert.

DK?

I rather think that the sodium from the canned tuna makes you crave something sweet.

Instead of dextrose, i'd rather go with complex carbs, but then again, it depends on your body structure and your aims.

If you bulk and have rather low bf, you can go with the sugar, if you have a little bf, complex carbs are better. It would also be better concerning your work. A constant blood sugar level will make you work better than spiking it with dextrose and letting it fall again after that.

Try to switch the tuna with Yoghurt and fruits or have some yoghurt with fruits for dessert, this will help. A banana will be better than dextrose. You can add oatmeal too.

Thanks DK,

So a banana right after each can would actually aid the protein digestion?

No. If you feel you need carbs, have a banana. Protein doesn't need carbs to be digested.
You could have bromelaine to help digestion.

I'd do this as well.  Canned tuna alone is a meal if you're 4 weeks out of the Mr. Olympia, not for most people, not to mention it's sick, just my humble opinion.

Yes, i didn't mention it.

Most guys are way too harsh about their eating habits. I did it too, and it helped me nothing. It was when i relaxed and added in some carbs and fat that i progressed. Tuna alone is fine, but if you are not tring to compete in the next few weeks, you are starving yourself to death and kill all progress, both in cutting OR bulking.

Try to eat as clean as possible, then add a little junk food and sweets and you are fine.  ;D

hahahaha, you got the wrong end of the stick dude  ;D

I eat tuna twice a day just to boost up my protein intake by 100g, so I can ingest around 250g of protein.

The rest of the day I spend eating the other 4000 kcal, making it around 4500 a day.

So you get about 100g of protein from tuna, approx 400kcals, then another 150g from other sources, approx 600kcals and then you injest 3000-3500kcals in fats and carbohydrates?
