I'm thinking some of the esteemed members of our Chavez fan club can elaborate on the short and long termed implications of this.

The minute Hugo declares he isn't selling to the USA, we will find WMD there and invade and hang him.

Yes, berserker you must be giddy with this news. Also with the news that Chavez has paid off his debt to and left the WFO and wants to start a lending group based in South America.

Not much.

But I know venez is something like #5 on the list of world oil nations.

Which makes them the 5th sexiest target for longterm US "democracy spreading".

All of the oil in Norway is owned by Norwegians.

All of the oil outside of UK is owned by British companies.

All of the oil fields in Saudi Arabia is owned by Saudi Arabia.

All these countries have been able to build up their economies due to their nature resources, all three are reliable allies of the USA.

Nigerian oil fields are mostly owned by foreign companies, leeching the resources out of the country.

Nigeria is poor. The government and society is fragile.

IMO, any country who doesn't control their own nature resources, has to nationalize them.

It's imperative to get all the earnings of the nature resources back to the country where it all originates from. These countries have to be in sovereign control of their own resources.

Necessery for development of peace, democracy and global wealth.

I tried.  Wouldn't let me.  We have too many safeguards here and I'm a functioning computer illiterate.

But I have been meaning to buy "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man."  One of my students recommended it and I promised I'd read it.

I have to get that read myself.  I've listened to many interviews and know his story well but need to read the book.
