The first Raising the Bar - clip
« on: January 25, 2007, 09:17:06 AM »
I'm glad to see that some of you liked (and some hated!) the clip we released from our work in progress, Raising the Bar 2. All opinions good or bad are welcome. I should have more coming soon.

In the meantime, for those of you who haven't seen it yet, I've posted a clip on Youtube from RTB1. It's a fairly basic explanation of a prejudging. Please remember that the Raising the Bar documentaries are meant for a non-BB audience as well, so from time to time I explain things that might be commonplace to you. In any case, I still think you may find this clip amusing, especially if any of you have competed at the local level.

Here is the trailer for the first Raising the Bar...

I gotta be honest. It was one of the better "bodybuilding DVD" I bought in a long time. I rank it right up there with Jay's One Step Closer in that it tries to show EVERY aspect it possibly can in dealing with life surrounded by bodybuilding.

Excellent work Mike.  8)

You definitely have the voice for narration.  Kind of like the guy who does the movie previews at the cinema.  ;D

Ha... I wouldn't go THAT far.

Now you've gone too far!! LOL! That guy is my HERO! Thanks. I know I'll never have that God-given voice, but doing the narration is one of the most enjoyable parts of doing these videos for me.

Raised in a barn looks like a good movie.  I may just have to check it out.

Here he is! Mr. Don LaFontaine. THE voice!

I'm surprised nobody else is trying to put together another Pumping Iron style docudrama...shows like the ones featured in RTB2 are just screaming for a good movie!  Good stuff.

There was a movie that came out in 2005 called No Pain, No Gain that was a fictional drama that actaully used BBs as actors. I never saw it but I don't think it did very well because it quickly disappeared. It's a shame because the BB world has everything you need to tell a good story. And it's just outside of the mainstream enough to still have the fascination factor for the general public. With the right story, the right actors and the right director someone could make a really interesting, dramatic film IMO.

I agree.  The right script hasn't come along.  If it does, several current actors could get into the kind of shape required to do the roles in such a film.  It would probably have to be an independent feature, because Hollywood would never put one of its budgets behind the project.  I'm not holding my breath, though, because the suits are too afraid of the steroid connection to think they could sell a bodybuilding themed film to the great unwashed.

It could be done with CGI or face replacement, like they did for the Hobbits in Lord of the Rings. Or would that ruin it? Does it have to be real bodies?

that movie was a horror of a film, lousy script and even worse acting..
