Actually I do, because I whole heartedly believe in evolution. we only differ on creation.

That's fine I guess. What I have a problem with are people who think the earth is 5 thousands years old and don't believe in science even why they are clearly benefiting from it.

I am with you. Like I said I am a christian because I do believe in Christ. I believe that God created Earth. However:

1. Did he do it in 7 days? doubt it
2. Was there an Adam and Eve? Probably not in the literal sense but we had to come from somewhere
3. Did Noah have 2 of every animal etc. who knows
4. Did Moses part the red sea? again I wasn't there
on and on and on

I know alot of people take it more literal thatn I do but I don't see a problem with that. Belief in something is good for a person

At the same time don't you think it's wrong when a person lets their religious views intervene when they make certain social or political decisions? Doesn't go against the secular nature of the states?

It is such a touchy subject. I am not the kind of person that thinks prayer should be mandatory, but I don't see harm in a cross or ten commandments hanging on a wall. I am against abortion but not because of religious reasons, I am against gay marriage but not for religious reasons. I think what happens is if someone is a christian and voices dissaprroval of something people assume it is a religious deal when it might not be. But I agree laws shoudln't be made based on religion.

Very interesting egj13 ....."I believe in Jesus.....I just don't believe in the Bible"

Do you realize how intelligent you sound?

Some of our presidential candidates don't believe their uncle was a monkey, like millions of other Americans.  Big deal.   ::)

Rolf someone who thinks the earth is 5,00 years old questions our obvious ancestry. And we're descendants of apes, not monkeys. This isn't even debatable.  ::)

Who thinks the earth is 5,000 years old?  The issue is our presidential candidates believing in this monkey business.

Those candidates, along with the millions of other americans that don't believe in evolution = fucking idiots. If they can't see simple facts, then how can they run the world's most powerful country? They shouldn't even be allowed to run for president.

It's pathetic pandering.  And there's another problem:

They're supposed to be able to competently address global warming - which includes issues of climate change over the last million years - from a point of view that the world was crated 5,000 years ago?

It's beyond stupid.  They showed themselves to either be liars, or incapable of dealing with that issue.  Either way, those 3 should be shown the door - they don't belong as president.

What about the 40 percents of scientists who believe in God?  (According to the poll you cited on the Religion board.)  I would be willing to bet that there are numerous elected officials (in addition to the Congressman, Senator, and Governor in this story) who don't believe in the monkey business.

There aren't a whole lot of simple facts when it comes to evolution and intelligent design.  There are lots of holes, assumptions, science, and faith involved with both theories.

Here are Huckabees comments about evolution:

Friday, May 4, 2007 1:02 p.m. EDT
Huckabee Explains His Views on Evolution

Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee on Friday sought to explain why he doesn't believe in evolution, saying he is not opposed to teaching Darwin's theory.

Huckabee was one of three GOP candidates who raised their hand during Thursday's debate when asked if they don't believe in evolution - the development of organisms and species from a primitive state.

The other candidates were Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas and Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado.

Huckabee, in a conference call with reporters, complained that the debate format didn't give him a chance to elaborate on his views about evolution.

"And the main thing . . . I'm not sure what in the world that has to do with being president of the United States," said the former Arkansas governor.

Huckabee said he has no problem with teaching evolution as a theory in the public schools and he doesn't expect schools to teach creationism.

He said it was his responsibility to teach his children his beliefs though he could accept that others believe in evolution.

"I believe that there is a God and that he put the process in motion," Huckabee said.

The difference between evolution and creationism or even intelligent design is one is based on intelligent study, observation and documentation and the other is based on old manuscripts and wishful thinking.

I can understand why you choose to believe that the world was created by something divine.

What I don't understand, is why you picked the Christian God as the creator? Why not some other religion?

Or why not just believe that there is a divine thing?

Just curious, not trying to offend.

Not true at all.  When it comes to the origin of life, both "the big bang" and the seven day creation sound like fairy tales.  There is no "intelligent study, observation, and documentation" supporting either one.

I was talking about evolution and not the big bang.

And there has been study and observation on the big bang. Based on the fact that the universe is expanding physicists have postulated that all the matter in the universe was in one place at one time. In fact Stephen Hawking was responsible for postulating that there would be left over radiation from the big bang - this was later found by two scientists who won a noble prize for it (ie. the left over radiation from the big bang).

The important thing to note though is that no physicist is going around blowing up abortion clinics, holding back medical science and insisting that everyone accept the big bang as the one and only theory. And that is a very big distinction in my book.

Probably has a lot to do with how I was raised I guess. Like I said I believe in Christ and some of the prophecies that he fulfilled.

I think most people's difference in views is the creation aspect. But we lump in everyone, if you believe in the big bang you are evolutionist, if you believe in creationsim you don't believe in evolution. I can't understand how anyone could not believe in the evolution part, I mean look at the deer species for just on example. Mule deer, White/black tails etc..

beachbum doesn't believe in science, even though he benefits from it in everyday life.

Evolution by natural selection is pretty much proven, yet he claims there are significant fossil gaps. Obviously we're not going to discover the fossil of every organism that's ever lived on planet earth, but we've discovered significant transitional fossils that support natural selection. We also have objective studies that support natural selection. We also know the laws of inheritance and genetics support natural selection. It's written in stone and is not debatble.

Creationists don't have any other arguements other than 1) The gaps 2) No sufficient evidence 3) compexlity
1) This is shot down easily because of course there will be gaps, but they're getting thinner and thinner as we learn more. 2) There is sufficient evidence, but they choose to ignore it and don't bring forth any evidence to support their creationist garbage. 3) They don't understand natural selection and Mendel's laws when they claim something is too complex for it to have just evolved over millions of years.

when he said he believed the official 911 story, which requires the negation of three laws of physics.
